Z ., was spent harmoniously , and to tho gratification of all present . The Chapter has , during the past twolve months , been unusually strengthened in numbers , and the ooming year bids fair to be a most prosperous ono .

Lily Lodge of Instruction , No . 820 . —Met at tho Greyhound , Bichmond , on Saturday , tho 2 ud of March . Present—Bros . Kyezor W . M " ., Digby S . W ., Wade J . W ., II . W . Rydon S . D ., Harris I . G . Lodgo was opened . The minutes were not confirmed , owing to the ¦ unavoidable absence of Bro . Phillips , Secretary . Bro . Clear offered himself as a candidate , and tho ceremony of initiation was rehearsed .

Lodgo was then opened up iu regular form to tho second degree , and closed to tho first , when Bro . Digby rose to express his viows as to the falling-oil' of the attoudanco . Ho thought if the coromonies were rehearsed in rotation , that many would attend . Instead of leaving tho -working to tho discretion of tho W . M ., a proscribed rule should mako it incumbent upon tho W . M . to work tho degrees in the order that they are givon , so that constant repetition would bo

abolished , and tho W . M . bo enabled to give the third degroo as well as somo sectional workings more frequently , and to tho greater edification of the members . Bro . Kyezor promised to give the matter his sorious consideration , and as , roqnestod , would lay tho mattor before the brethren . Bro . Wade was then elected to fill the chair on Saturday , tho 9 th instant . Bro . Kyezor remarked that too much praise could not bo given to Bro . Wade for tho strides he had made in knowledge of the Craft . Lodgo then closed in lovo and harmony .

The Lodge was opened in tho third , and the ceremony of raising was ably rehearsed by the W . M ., who gave the traditional history and lecture in a very impressive manner , Bro . Ponlton being candidate . Bro . Aspinall was elected W . M . for the ensuing two weeks , and appointed his officers in rotation . The Lodge was then closed in due form and adjourned .

Eboracum Lodge , No . 1611 . —An omorgency meeting of this Lodge was held on Wednesday , 27 th February , when , after au initiation , the W . M . ( Bro . T . B . Whytehead ) read a very interesting paper on " The Landmarks of Froeraasonry . " A rote of thanks , proposed by Bro . T . Cooper I . P . M ., was carried by acclamation , Bro . Cooper urging the importance of making a real study of Masonry ,

and expressing a hope that this would not bo the last paper the W . M " . would read . In replying , Bro . T . B . Whytehead said that tho D . P . G . M . ( Bro . Dr . J . P . Bell ) was very anxious to see an intelligent practise of Masonry in his Province , and ho himself had long felt that mere ritualistic perfection was , though vory desirable , apt to

produce barren and unsatisfactory results . Hi 3 great wish was to create amongst tho hrethron a desire for tho study of Masonry , thau which , he could assure them , nothing was more interesting . Tho S . W . ( Bro . J . S . Cumberland ) expressed a hope that tho paper would bo printed and circulated amongst tho members .

M . will take the chair . Bro . Savage P . M . proposed , and Bro . Penn W . M . seconded , that a voto of thanks be recorded on the minutes for the special treat tho W . M . had been pleased to give them that evening . This was carried , and the W . M . briefly acknowledged the compliment .

Marquis of Ripon Lodge of Instruction , No . 1489 . —On Monday , the 4 th instaut , at tho Pembury Tavern , Arahurstroad , Hackney , at 7 . 30 . Present—Bros . Grist W . M ., Aspinall S . W ., Bishop J . W ., Goddard S . D ., Mann J . D ., Jacob I . G ., Slaiter Secretary , Blunt Preceptor ; also Bros . High , Lockett , McDowall , Ponlton , & c . The Lodgo was opened in due form , and tho ceremony of initiation rehearsed , Bro . Lockett being candidate . Tho Lodge then

opened in the second dogreo , and Bro . Lockett -was passed to the degree of Fellow Craft . Bro . Lockott then answered the questions leading to the degree of M . M ., and was entrusted . The Lodge was opened in tho third , and the ceremony of raising was ably rehearsed by the W . M ., who gave the traditional history and lecture in a very impressive manner , Bro . Ponlton being candidate . Bro . Aspinall was elected W . M . for the ensuing two weeks , and appointed his officers in rotation . The Lodge was then closed in due form and adjourned .

Eboracum Lodge , No . 1611 . —An omorgency meeting of this Lodge was held on Wednesday , 27 th February , when , after au initiation , the W . M . ( Bro . T . B . Whytehead ) read a very interesting paper on " The Landmarks of Froeraasonry . " A rote of thanks , proposed by Bro . T . Cooper I . P . M ., was carried by acclamation , Bro . Cooper urging the importance of making a real study of Masonry ,

and expressing a hope that this would not bo the last paper the W . M " . would read . In replying , Bro . T . B . Whytehead said that tho D . P . G . M . ( Bro . Dr . J . P . Bell ) was very anxious to see an intelligent practise of Masonry in his Province , and ho himself had long felt that mere ritualistic perfection was , though vory desirable , apt to

produce barren and unsatisfactory results . Hi 3 great wish was to create amongst tho hrethron a desire for tho study of Masonry , thau which , he could assure them , nothing was more interesting . Tho S . W . ( Bro . J . S . Cumberland ) expressed a hope that tho paper would bo printed and circulated amongst tho members .

Earl of Carnarvon Lodge of Instruction , No . 1642 . — Held at tho Mitre Hotel , Goulbourne-road , Notting-hill , on Friday , the 1 st of March , Bro . Spiegel W . M ., Adkins S . W ., Woodmason J . W ., Penn S . D ., Smont sen . J . D ., H . Dohaue I . G ., Bro . Sarage P . M . Preceptor , Smont jun ., Liehtwitz , Poulter , Tettonborn , Hatton , Gabb , Whittaker , Hook , Parkhouse , Chalfond and Webstor . After reading

tho minute 3 , Bro . Spiegel tho W . M . rehearsed the ceremony oE initiation , Bro . Penn being candidate ; after which tho W . M ., according to promise , gave tho lecture on the first Tracing Board , with all tho illustrations ; tho brethren paid great attention , and were all highly pleased , it boing tho first time of many of them heat-iug tho same . The W . M . then proceeded to complete his oveniug ' s work by working the first and second sections of the first lecture . Bro . Charles

Webster 1381 was elected a member of this Lodge . Bro . Savage P . M . proposed Bro . Adkins as W . M . for tho 15 th iust ., Friday the 8 th being Officer ' s night , when Bro . Penn tho W . M . will take the chair . Bro . Savage P . M . proposed , and Bro . Penn W . M . seconded , that a voto of thanks be recorded on the minutes for the special treat tho W . M . had been pleased to give them that evening . This was carried , and the W . M . briefly acknowledged the compliment .

Metropolitan Chapter of Improvement . — Hold its weekly meeting at tho Jamaica Coffee House , Cornhill , on Tuesday , the 5 th instant , when tho Officers , as reported in our last issue , were in attendance , and rehearsed the ceremony of tho degree with their wonted ability .
