After the ceremony of initiation was disposed of , and the bye-laws having been read by the Secretary , Bro . Alfred Snellgrovo , tho Lodge proceeded to ballot for tho election of a AV . M . for tho ensuing

year , when the S . AV . ( Bro . Nicol ) was unanimously elected . Bro . Buss P . M . then proposed that a P . M . ' s jewel should be presented to tho retiring W . M . Bro . William Browne Kidder . Ho had rendered tho ceremonies in that Lodgo in an able manner , such as had not been excelled by tho brethren for years past , and ho felt very prond in having snch a Brother as the W . come into the rank of tho P . M . 's . He was sure that although Ins year of oflico had nearly expired , Masonry would not loso tho good offices of Bro . Kidder . Bro . llaynham AV . Stewart P . M . said ho had very great pleasure in seconding Bro . Enss ' s proposition , and in doing so he felt sure that no one who had heard Bro . Kidder do his work could fail to appreciate tho admirable manner the ceremonies

Kidder for very many years to come , a sentiment which , he was sure , came from the heart of every brother present . Tho toast was drunk with the most fraternal feelings of respect and regard . Tho

W . M ., iu replying , said he was unable fully to express to Brother Angold and the brethren how sensibly he felt his gratitude was due to them for tho uniform kindness which ho had received during his year of office in assisting him in the discharge of his official duties , and particularly for their marked approval of his services , by voting him a Past Master ' s jewel , which he should wear with the greatest

pride and satisfaction , as an acknowledgment that the Lodge was sensible that ho ( the AV . Master elect . He said there was no brother moro entitled to the honourable position of Worshipful Master than Bro . Nicol , and which office he was very pleased had that evening been conferred upon him by tho nnanimous voto of tho brethren . The W . M . remarked that Bro . Nicol had already passed thirty degrees in Masonry , and had gained the confidence of the brethren by his generous disposition and

his marked liberality in supporting the Masonic Charities . He was a Vice-President of one Institution , and had this evening decided to represent the Lodge as Steward to the Masonic Benevolent Institution at tho forthcoming Festival , and then mako himself a Vice-President of that one also . He was about to vacate a position which he had looked forward to for upwards of ten years , ho having tilled each of the offices in tho Lodge . During his year ho

had been very ably assisted by tho various officers . Of Bro . Berry , the I . P . M ., it was impossible for him to speak iu too high terms of praise . Ho was under deep obligations to tho Wardens for tho able manner in which thoy had carried out tho duties of their offices .
