presence of so distinguished a Mason from America , and also at the number of members present from the Senior Sister Lodge at York . Bro . T . B . Whytehead P . M . then gave an address , whioh he called " A Masonic Walk through York , " in which he noticed the various houses of public entertainment in whioh the several Lodges
held in York had held their meetings from the earliest recorded times , with current remarks on the various leaders of the Craft connected with the several bodies , and other matters pertinent to the subject , and he received the thanks of the Lodge for his interesting remarks . " Hearty good wishes" were given , and the Lodge was
closed , after which the Eboracums entertained their visitors at supper , and a very pleasant evening was passed , in the course of which the health of Bro . T . J . Shryock was most heartily drunk , and he made a most eloquent response , expressing his pleasnre at finding himself amongst the Masons of the mother city of the Craft in the
world . He also referred at length to the mission of Freemasonry in thus bringing together in olose companionship members of many races and orders of society , and conducing to the formation of permanent bonds of brotherly love , which would do muoh to cement the friendship of nations and to destroy those international jealousies which
had been responsible for much of the strife that had torn and divided the world in past ages . A most agreeable evening was spent in Masonic converse . Amongst the letters read during the evening was one from Bro . W . J . Hughan , of Torquay , speaking in the most cordial terms of Bro . Shryock and . his Masonic services .

Lodge was opened , and the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed .
Lodge was opened in the second degree . The W . M . proposed working the third ceremony . Bro . Murnane offered himself as candidate , andi the ceremony was duly rehearsed . The bye-laws were read . The Treasurer's and Secretary ' s reports were taken as

D ., Spalding I . G ., Collingridge Secretary . Lodge was opened in due form , and after preliminary work , the ceremony of initiation was
rehearsed , Bro . Hammond candidate . This brother also answered the questions leading to the second degree . Bro . Snook theu practised the investiture of Officers of a Lodge . Bro . Spalding 1693 was elected a member . Lodge closed in due form , and adjourned till Monday . 10 th October , when Bro . Casely will preside .

DEVON MASONIC EDUCATIONAL FUND . A meeting of the Educational and General Purposes Committee was held on Friday , 30 th nit ., at the Huyshe Temple , Plymouth . Bro . F . B . Westlake presided . The business was to receive applications from candidatesand to place such as wero eligible on tho list
, tor the election iu October ; also to make necessary arrangements tor the meeting to be held on Tnesday , 25 th October , when two children will be elected on tho Fund . There was one candidate alread y on the list , a girl 7 ^ years of svjre , the daughter of a deceased brother of Lodge Charity , 223 , Plymouth—votes brought
forward , 251 . Three new candidates were placed on the list—a girl , " years of age , both parents dead ; her father was a member of Lodge kt Maurice , 1855 , Plymouth ; a girl , 10 years of age , the daughter of deceased

Four candidates had been accepted on the ballot for exaltation , but one only was able to attend ; the remainder will doubtless ( with others who are announced ) be present at an emergency meeting , whioh , it is expected , will be held
during the winter months . The Chapter was well represented by Ex-Comp . J . Tiokle M . E . Z ., Comp . Bentley Haynes H ., and Comp . Dr . Rogers J . ; Comps . C . Veal S . E ., R . H . been duly confirmed , the chair of M . E . Z . was taken by Companion Brown P . Z ., who , with the assistance of his Officers , exalted Brother W . T . Buck P . M . of the Sub Urban Lodge , 1702 , to the degree of Royal Arch Mason . The ceremony was admirably worked , and oar new Companion may congratulate himself on seeiog this beautiful
ceremony so ably carried out , in all its branches . On the M . E . Z . resuming the chair , a notice of motion by Comp . Jacobs P . Z ., " That the installation meeting be in future held in September , instead of July , " was discussed , but its final consideration was adjourned until the next meeting , that absent Companions might have the
opportunity of being present . Various matters having been disposed of , and hearty good wishes duly tendered by the Visitors , the Chapter was closed with solemn prayer at 6 * 30 . The Companions afterwards enjoyed a substantial dinner , ably presided over by the M . E . Z ., who gave the accustomed toasts with his usual ability . Au especial
feature was given to the toast of the Visitors , who on all occasions are accorded a hearty welcome at Stanmore . On returning thanks they each complimented the Chapter on its efficient working , and fully confirmed the high encomiums passed by Sir Francis Burdett at
the last Provincial Grand Chapter , which was held at Stanmore . Several Companions enlivened the evening with harmony j and with the health of the Principals , Past Principals , Officers , and the Janitor ' s toast , a very agreeable evening was closed at 9 ' 30 .

ROYAL VETERAN ENCAMPMENT . A QUARTERLY Convocation of the Knights Templar was held on the 30 th ult ., at the Huyshe Temple , Plymouth . E . S . K . William Trevenna presided . During the evening , the Very Eminent Provincial Prior , the Rev . T . W . Lemon , M . A ., presented to the Encampment a handsome oil painting , representing "Knights Templar taking the oath , time of Richard I . " A panel on its
elegant gilt vrame bears the following inscription : — "Presented to the Royal Veterans' Encampment , No . 10 , by the V . E . Sir Knight the Rev . T . W . Lemon , M . A ., 31 st Degree , Very Eminent Provincial Grand Prior of Devonshire , 30 th September 1887 . " The V . E . Prior ' s
present was thankfully received , and a vote of thanks accorded to him , and ordered to be recorded on the minutes . The painting was ordered to be hung on the walls of the Encampment . The picture is painted by H . Lynn .
