MARK GRAND LODGE .

THE Quarterly Communication was held on Tuesday , at Mark Masons' Hall , the Earl of Euston Pro Grand Master presiding . Lord Euston announced that the Duke of

Connaught , who had been elected Grand Master m March , was not able to be present on that occasion to be installed , but that the ceremony would be performed on a future occasion , probably in October or November .

This being the regular day for the installation of Grand Master and the appointment and investiture of the Grand Officers for the year , the Duke of Connaught was proclaimed by Bro . H . E . Cousans Grand Director of Ceremonies as Grand Master . Lord Euston was appointed Pro Grand

Master , the Hon . Alan de Tatton Egerton , M . P ., Deputy Grand Master ; and the other principal Grand Officers were Lord Herschell Senior Warden , H . J . Sparks Junior Warden , F . West , Dr . Clement Godson , and W . J . Fisher Overseers ,

the Revs . E . L . G . Houndle and H . S . Cronin , B . D ., Chaplains , Harry Manfield Treasurer , Frank Richardson Registrar , R . Loveland-Loveland , K . C ., President of the General Board , and C . F . Matier Secretary .

The following report of the General Board was dealt with :

. During the three months ending 31 st March 1901 , there have been issued : —Mark Certificates , 603 ; total registered , 43 , 049 . Royal Ark Mariner Certificates , 180 ; number registered , 6 , 615 . His Royal Highness the Most Worshipful Grand Master has

been graciously pleased to re-appoint for a further term of three years : — R . W . Bro . Charles Letch Mason as Provincial Grand Master for West Yorkshire .

R . W . Bro . Thomas Cook as District Grand Master for Natal . R . W . Bro . Capel Jenner Hogg as District Grand Master for the Western Division of South Africa . R . W . Bro . Edward Harry Courtenay Luck as District

Grand Master for Queensland . R . W . Bro . Col . The Hon . Sir George Montgomery John Moore , K . C . I . E ., as District Grand Master for Madras . His Royal Highness the Most Worshipful Grand Master has

been graciously pleased to appoint : — R . W . Bro . Alfred Seymour Bankart to be District Grand Master for Auckland , New Zealand , in succession to R . W . Bro . F . W . E . Dawson , deceased .

The Board has the pleasure to announce that the outstanding balance of , £ 700 has been repaid by the General Fund to the Annuity Branch of the Benevolent Fund .

The Board has had to seriously admonish the W . M . of a Lodge far having appointed a Brother to hold more thin one -regular-Office in the Lodge at one and the same time contrary to the laws , custom , and usages hitherto adopted in Mark Masonry .

The W . Master of the Lodge pleaded ignorance of the fact , that , where the Constitutions for the government of the Mark and R . A . M . Degrees do not specifically provide for any matter that may arise , the rules and regulations of the Craft have always been held to apply .

The Board recommends that this custom should be embodied in the Book of Constitutions , so that in future direct attention should be called to the matter in the following Rule to follow Article 153 : — "Any matter not specifically dealt with in these Constitutions

must be governed by the general rules of Masonry contained in the Book of Constitutions of Free and Accepted Masons under the United Grand Lodge of England , so fas as such rules are not inconsistent with any of the regulations herein , and so far as they are applicable to the Mark Degree . '

FUND OF BENEVOLENCE . V . W . Bro . Alderman and Lt .-Col . Clifford Probyn Past Grand Treasurer has most kindly consented to preside at the thirty-third Annual Festival in aid of the Benevolent Fund , which will be held at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Wednesday , 10 th July 1901 , and the Grand Secretary will be happy to receive the names of Ladies and Brethren willing to act as Stewards .

The Board have to report the death of two annuitants : Mrs . Elizabeth Eyre and Mrs . Mary Lord . Mrs . Louisa Rowe , widow of the late Bro . Alexander Rowe , late an Annuitant , has been placed on the Annuity Fund under Rule 203 , Sub-section XIV . The Board has elected on the Educational Fund , without a poll : Gerard Selby Mitchell , son of the late Bro . Charles Edward

Mitchell Past Deputy District Grand Master Bombay , and Frank Herbert Gange , son of the late Bro . Walter Hookway Gange , of the Canynges Lodge , T . I ., Bristol . Bell , and expressed the hope that the distressing illness under which he had long been suffering would soon disappear . ******************
