, The Lodge being formed , Bro . Bradley W . M . rose and said before commencing their duties he desired to say a few words upon the great loss the Lodge had sustained in the sad and sudden death of their dear Preceptor Past Master John Francis Saunders . It has pleased the G . A . O . T . U . to call him to the Grand Lodge
above ; and it was a great loss to the Brethren , who really loved him . He was so active , and apparently in such good health and spirits that it had paralysed them all to hear that he was dead . He proposed that a letter of the deepest sympathy and condolence be sent to the bereaved family .
Brother R . W . Fraser I . P . M . said it was with the deepest regret he learned of the sad bereavement the Lodge had sustained in the death of their dear friend Bro . Saunders . He had been associated with him for nearly twenty years'"in the various Office * of his Mother Lodge and Chapter , to which they both belonged . Although the suddeness of his departure to the great hereafter was
deplored by many of his survivors , they must rejoice that their dear Brother was saved the pain and anguish often connected with a long illness . He trusted that when the time came they might all show as good a record , and be as ready to meet the call as their departed Brother . It was with the deepest regret that the occasion arose to second the proposition of the W . M .
Bro . Thompson J . W . 1507 said he was present at the funeral , and with him were several members of the Mother Lodge , amongst others being Bros . W . M . Stiles P . G . Treasurer , H- Gerrard , J . H . Moggridge , F . Donaldson , James Speller P . M ., J . Bates P . M ., J . Genese , T . Honniball , D . and H . Brill , the Rev . S . J . Roco , G . W . Knight P . M ., Hess . He supported the motion , and introduced
Bro . John Ward , who had had charge of the funeral arrangements . Bro . J . Ward in supporting , expressed his sincere sympathy with the family in their bereavement . Having had the privilege of knowing Bro . Saunders for many years he had every satisfaction at being present to add his word to the sympathy expressed by the Brethren of the Lodge of Instruction .
Several other Brethren expressed their personal grief at the loss they had sustained , after which the Lodge was closed , as a mark of respect , and the Brethren retired in solemn silence .

M . had worked the two degrees , and the installation ceremony ; it was a real Masonic treat . Bro . Weinel , in ' short , but meek and eloquent speech , acknowledged the compliment .
Strand Lodge , No . 1987 . THE first re-union dinner of the Strand Lodge of Instruction was held last month at the Salisbury Hotel , Strand , when host Bro . Toosen put on the board a capital menu , which was much appreciated by the Brethren .
The chair was taken by Bro . Rapley Preceptor of the Lodge , and among those present were Bros . J . N . Hare , A . Hare , Nott , Thomas , Pastorelli , Soper , Goff , Pain , Edwards , Sparks , Lisle , Seaman , Muller , Thomas Treasurer , Kibblewhite Sec , and many other Brethren and friends . After dinner and the usual Loyal toasts , the Chairman proposed success to the Strand Lodge of Instruction .
