THE GIRLS SCHOOL FESTIVAL .

WHATBVEE may be the result of the 109 th Anniversary Festival of the oldest Masonic Charity , to be held on Wednesday next ,, under the presidency of the Eight Hon . Lord Llangattock Prov . Grand Master of the Eastern Division

of South Wales , we know there is but one feeling throughout the Craft , and that is that the Institution may be enabled to continue its good work in the future , and even extend the scope of its operations at no very distant dace , as the feeling

with many of the supporters of the Institutions is that they should progress from year to year , rather than content themselves with a continuation of what has been done in the past . As we have urged on more-than one occasion of late the

present is a particularly busy year in connection with Charity Funds of all kinds , and no doubt this will make itself apparent when the result is announced next week , but we hope it will

not have such an effect on the total as to cause anything approaching alarm as to the future of the Institution , the work accomplished by which is well known throughout the Craft , and requires no reiteration here .

A certain amount of gloomy anticipation as to the result of next week ' s Festival has been manifest during the last few days , for the reason that the Board of Stewards is not so

strong as usual , but let us hope the deficiency in point of numbers may be more than compensated for by an increase in the average per Steward , so that the Festival of 1897 may not be less satisfactory than its immediate predecessors .

The Annual visitation of Stewards to the Institution will take place on Monday next , when—as is usual on such occasions—the prizes will be distributed to the successful pupils of the year . Lady Llangattock has kindly undertaken

the latter duty , and she will probably be supported by the Chairman Lord Llangattock and many others interested in the welfare of the School , The doors of the Institution will be open to visitors at 3 . 30 , the programme of the day

commencing with the National Anthem at 4 o ' clock , followed by Calisthenic and Marching Exercises , music , & c . Tea and refreshment will be provided after the prizes are distributed , and visitors will also have the opportunity of inspecting the School .

We are desired to draw the attention of our readers to the case of Bro . Edwin Walker , No . 32 on the list of candidates for the Benevolent Institution , who , haviDg omitted to give his qualifications as a candidate may be regarded as not having supported the Institutions , whereas he is a Life Governor four

times over for the Benevolent Institution , and a Life Subscriber to the other two funds . As a Past Master and Preceptor of a Lodge of Instruction for the last twelve years he has done much in other ways to support the cause of Masonic benevolence , and we hope his present appeal to his Brethren will meet the reward it deserves .

The Faith Lodge of Instruction has adjourned for the summer months , the next meeting being arranged for the first Tuesday in October .

RICHARD NEWHOUSE CHAPTER .

NOT since the year 1869 has there been a Chapter consecration in the Province of Cheshire . The novelty of the function , together with the popularity of the M . E . 2 .. Comp . E . Newhouse P . G . Std . B . of England , brought together on Saturday

probably a larger gathering of Eoyal Arch Masons than had ever assembled before at any one time in the Province . The event was the consecration of the Eichard Newhouse Chapter , No . 2433 , at the Masonic Rooms , Birkenhead .

The Consecrating Officer deputed by H . E . H . the Grand Z . . to perform the ceremony was the Hon . Alan De Tatton Egerton , M . P ., Grand Superintendent of the Province , who was assisted by Comps . John Armstrong Prov . G . H ., James ( Jookson Prov . G . J .,

Frederick Broadsmith P . P . G . H ., John Fraser Prov . G . S . N ., and A . H . Baird Prov . G . D . C . The Provincial Grand Chapter was opened by the Grand Superintendent , after which he , the Grand Officers present , and the Prov . G . H . and Prov . G . J . were all saluted according to their rank .

After prayer and the hymn " Hail Eternal , " the Consecrating Principal addressed the Companions on the nature of the meeting , and called on the Prov . G . D . C . to state the wishes of the Companions , and the proceedings they had taken with respect to the Chapter . This proving satisfactory , the Founders were

arranged around the banners , when the Prov . A . G . Scribe E . Comp . Ferguson read the Charter , after which the Founders signified their approval of the Officers designated to preside over

them . Comp . the Eev . Eobert Edwards delivered an oration on the nature and principles of the Institution . The anthem , " Behold how good and joyful" was most effectively rendered by the choir , Comp . Baird being the soloist . The Chapter was then dedicated and consecrated in the usual form . Afterwards the Grand Superintendent called upon
