The usual Masonic toasts were honoured , and an interesting feature of tho eveuing WHS the presentation of a handsome clock to Bro . Browning , tho retiring

Treasurer . The health of the W . M ., who was highly praised for his Masonic zeal and fidelity , was cordially honoured . Bro . Twose gave tho I . P . M . and the Past Masters , and Bro . A . Lyons tho Treasurer and tho Secretary . Tho Officers were also toasted , and Bro . T . Mc D . Bendle 1928 replied for tho Visitors . Several songs and recitations were given , and the proceedings were much enjoyed .

Attlay as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . The ceremony of installation was impressively performed by the Installing Master Bro . John Stevenson . centreseconds chronograph , supplied by one of the Officers of the Lodge . On is re-election last year Bro . Leea waa presented with the usual Past Master's jewel . His services in the chair have been greatly esteemed by the brethren .

rnHE brethren of this Lodge celebrated their festival of St . John J- on Tuesday , the 28 th ult ., when Bro . William Hall was installed ns W . M . for the ensuing year . The newly-elected Master appointed as his Officers : —Brothers Grose I . P . M ., Church Chaplain , Bennetts Treasurer , Rapson Secretary , Mannell S . W ., Rogers J . W ., Gower S . D ., Hocking J . D ., Faull I . G ., and Lean Tyler . There waa

a large muster of Masons present , inoluding , among visitors from several Lodges , Bros . Cock , Kistler , Wales , Mitchell and Mills . The Treasurer's account showed a balance in favour of the Lodge of upwards of £ 50 . Pointed referenoe waa made to the great loaa

which the Lodge had sustained by the death of their esteemed Brother the Hon . and Rev . J . T . Bosoawen , and muoh sympathy was expressed with his widow and family . After the close of the Lodge the brethren dined together in their banqueting room , the nBual Masonic and other toasts being ably put and heartily responded to .

LEWIS LODGE , No . 872 .

THE annual meeting for installing the Worshipful Master waa held on Monday , tbe 20 th ult ., in the Freemason's Hall , Dukestreet , Whitehaven , Bro . Joseph Smithson Moffat S . W . of the Lodge being the W . M . elect . The meeting was summoned for four p . m . j there being other business to transact . The hour fixed for the installation was 5 30 p . m ., when perhaps on no former occasion in the

history of the Lodge for the last thirty years has there beon a more general representative meeting , there being no less than eleven Lodges represented by visitors , extending from Erin's Isle to Japan . Tho W . M . elect was presented by Brother W . D . P . Field to Brother Dr . J . F . Muir W . M ., and iu presence of a Board of about twenty

Installed Masters was duly installed as W . M ., in a most able manner , and proclaimed accordingly , and invested the following as hia Officers , viz .: —Bros . David Atkinson S . W ., Edward Pattinson J . W ., Rev . James Anderson Chaplain , John Spittal P . M . Treasurer ( for the eighteenth time ) , Robert Shepherd Secretary , A . W . Johnston S . D .,

Thomas Blenkinsop J . D ., F . Farquharson D . C ., Robort Mann I . G ., A . J . Fowler and W . H . Ainsworth Stewards , aud J . Sewell Tyler . Telegrams during tho evening were handed in from Perseverance Lodge , 371 , Maryport ; Whitwcll Lodge , 1390 , Millom , conveying congratulations to tho newly-iustalled Master , and hearty good

wishes were expressed from Lodges 119 , 327 , 371 , 872 , 962 , 1225 , 1100 , KiGO , 1989 , and 2285 , and with other general business over , tho Lodgo was closed with the usual formalities , and Bro . Moffatt W . M . expressed a wish that all members and visitors would accompany him to tho Grand Hotel , where upwards of fifty sat down to an excellent

banqu : t , Bro . MollUtt iu tho chair , supported by hia Officers and Past Masters . A long toast list was subsequently gono through . The usual loyal and patriotic were given from the chair , and drunk with musical honours . Tho fir .-t Masonic toast was ably proposed by Bro . Spittal , viz .: —Tho Most Worshipful Grand Master and the

Grand Officers of England , which was responded to with Masonic honours . Bro . J . Matthews P . M . proposed tho Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master und the Provincial Grand Officers of the Province , and Bro . Field replied . The toast of the evening , Bro . J . S . Moffatt the newly-installed Mastor , was proposed by Bro . Dr . Muir

Installing Master , and he alluded at length to the able manner in which Bro . Moffatt had discharged his duties in the various offices he had held in tho Lodge , and felt sure the Lodge would enjoy prosperity under his mallot : his kind manner had endeared him to all . Bro . Moffatt briefly replied , and thanked tho brethren for the honour

they had conferred upon him ; nothing would be wantiug on hia part to try and fully sustain the high reputation the Lewis Lodgo held iu tho Province . Bro . Dalrymple- next gave the Visiting Brethren , coupled with tho W . M . ' s of other Lodges present , when Bros . Dickinson , Hartley , Gowan , Turner , Smith , and Wilkinson

replied . The Past Masters of 872 was proposed by Brother Atkinson S . W ., and Bro . Brakearidge respoudtd . With other toasts and songs from Bros . Hodgson , Starkey , Johns , Thompson , Matthews , Wilkinson and Cook , who also presided at the piano , a most enjoyable

evening was spent . Bro . and Mrs . Shepherd's health was proposed , nnd heartily rjspouded to by the company , for their very excellent cattirn . g , which was a credit to them and the Grand Hotel . Brothor Shepherd replied ou behalf of himself aud Mrs . Shepherd . With tho Dnal toast aud " God save tho Qtieeu . " tho company parted .

D ., Faull I . G ., and Lean Tyler . There waa

a large muster of Masons present , inoluding , among visitors from several Lodges , Bros . Cock , Kistler , Wales , Mitchell and Mills . The Treasurer's account showed a balance in favour of the Lodge of upwards of £ 50 . Pointed referenoe waa made to the great loaa

which the Lodge had sustained by the death of their esteemed Brother the Hon . and Rev . J . T . Bosoawen , and muoh sympathy was expressed with his widow and family . After the close of the Lodge the brethren dined together in their banqueting room , the nBual Masonic and other toasts being ably put and heartily responded to .

THE annual meeting for installing the Worshipful Master waa held on Monday , tbe 20 th ult ., in the Freemason's Hall , Dukestreet , Whitehaven , Bro . Joseph Smithson Moffat S . W . of the Lodge being the W . M . elect . The meeting was summoned for four p . m . j there being other business to transact . The hour fixed for the installation was 5 30 p . m ., when perhaps on no former occasion in the

history of the Lodge for the last thirty years has there beon a more general representative meeting , there being no less than eleven Lodges represented by visitors , extending from Erin's Isle to Japan . Tho W . M . elect was presented by Brother W . D . P . Field to Brother Dr . J . F . Muir W . M ., and iu presence of a Board of about twenty

Installed Masters was duly installed as W . M ., in a most able manner , and proclaimed accordingly , and invested the following as hia Officers , viz .: —Bros . David Atkinson S . W ., Edward Pattinson J . W ., Rev . James Anderson Chaplain , John Spittal P . M . Treasurer ( for the eighteenth time ) , Robert Shepherd Secretary , A . W . Johnston S . D .,

Thomas Blenkinsop J . D ., F . Farquharson D . C ., Robort Mann I . G ., A . J . Fowler and W . H . Ainsworth Stewards , aud J . Sewell Tyler . Telegrams during tho evening were handed in from Perseverance Lodge , 371 , Maryport ; Whitwcll Lodge , 1390 , Millom , conveying congratulations to tho newly-iustalled Master , and hearty good

wishes were expressed from Lodges 119 , 327 , 371 , 872 , 962 , 1225 , 1100 , KiGO , 1989 , and 2285 , and with other general business over , tho Lodgo was closed with the usual formalities , and Bro . Moffatt W . M . expressed a wish that all members and visitors would accompany him to tho Grand Hotel , where upwards of fifty sat down to an excellent

banqu : t , Bro . MollUtt iu tho chair , supported by hia Officers and Past Masters . A long toast list was subsequently gono through . The usual loyal and patriotic were given from the chair , and drunk with musical honours . Tho fir .-t Masonic toast was ably proposed by Bro . Spittal , viz .: —Tho Most Worshipful Grand Master and the

Grand Officers of England , which was responded to with Masonic honours . Bro . J . Matthews P . M . proposed tho Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master und the Provincial Grand Officers of the Province , and Bro . Field replied . The toast of the evening , Bro . J . S . Moffatt the newly-installed Mastor , was proposed by Bro . Dr . Muir

Installing Master , and he alluded at length to the able manner in which Bro . Moffatt had discharged his duties in the various offices he had held in tho Lodge , and felt sure the Lodge would enjoy prosperity under his mallot : his kind manner had endeared him to all . Bro . Moffatt briefly replied , and thanked tho brethren for the honour

they had conferred upon him ; nothing would be wantiug on hia part to try and fully sustain the high reputation the Lewis Lodgo held iu tho Province . Bro . Dalrymple- next gave the Visiting Brethren , coupled with tho W . M . ' s of other Lodges present , when Bros . Dickinson , Hartley , Gowan , Turner , Smith , and Wilkinson

replied . The Past Masters of 872 was proposed by Brother Atkinson S . W ., and Bro . Brakearidge respoudtd . With other toasts and songs from Bros . Hodgson , Starkey , Johns , Thompson , Matthews , Wilkinson and Cook , who also presided at the piano , a most enjoyable

evening was spent . Bro . and Mrs . Shepherd's health was proposed , nnd heartily rjspouded to by the company , for their very excellent cattirn . g , which was a credit to them and the Grand Hotel . Brothor Shepherd replied ou behalf of himself aud Mrs . Shepherd . With tho Dnal toast aud " God save tho Qtieeu . " tho company parted .
