REPORTS OF MEETINGS .

We sh . aU be pleased to receive particulars of Masonic meetings for insertion in our columns , and where desired ¦ will endeavour to send a representative to report Lodge or other proceedings .

CEAFT : METEOPOLITAN . — : o : — LODGE OF JOPPA , No . 188 . THIS ancient Lodge , which was constituted in April 1789 , met in mourning last Monday , at the Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen Street , W . C , to celebrate the annual festival . The cause of grief was the lamented death of Bro . Jamos Lyon P . M . and Treasurer of the Lodge for many years , who died on the last day of the year , and was buried at Mile End cemetery on New Year's Day . The out-going Master Bro . E . J . A . Davy opened the Lodge soon after three o ' clock , as there was a full Agenda to be gone through .

After the minutes of the last meeting had been read and confirmed the Auditors' Report was submitted respecting the state of tho Lodge Funds , whioh appeared to be in a highly flourishing condition . Bros . Galloway and Cross having answered the 'Prentice's questions , were passed to the second degree by the W . M . Bro . P . M . Roco then took the chair , when Bro . Jacobs proved his proficiency as a Craftsman , was raised to the sublime degree , and took his seat in the Master Masons' Lodge .

Bro . P . M . Lewis Lazarus next assumed the chair for the purpose of installing his son , Bro . Harry Lazarus , as Master of the Lodge for the second time . This is doubtless an unique event , at all events in modern days , but it occurred through a series rf incidents in connection with the Lodge to which it is needless further to refer . The W . M .-elect was presented by Bro . Roco and took the usual obligation , and was installed as Master in due form .

The following Officers were appointed : —Bro . E . Emanuel S . W ., Isaac Cohen J . W ., Lewis Lazarus P . M . Secretary , S . Roco P . M . Chaplain , E . Ansell S . D ., J . Edwards J . D ., W . Brewer I . G ., A . Cohen P . M . D . C , J . Craig A . D . C , E . Reineman , M . Armstrong , W . Rosenthal Stewards , John Ives P . M . Tyler . The I . P . M . proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Lazarus for his services as Installing Master . This was seconded by Bro . Gardner , supported by Bro . Roco , and carried unanimously , the same being entered on the minutes .

The Secretary referred to the loss the Lodge had sustained by the death of Bro . Lyon , the Treasurer for twenty-four years . He was never one to put himself forward , and did not care for higher honours , and therefore had never passed the chair , but every Brother held him in high esteem , and it was a great satisfaction to his family to see so many members—nearly one

half—of the Lodge present at his funeral , although very short notice could he given . He suggested that as a mark of respect his successor should not be elected till the next meeting , and in the meantime a letter of condolence and sympathy should be sent to his family . This was seconded by Bro . Dodson , supported by Bros . Gardner and Davy , and , needless to say , was carried unanimously .

The W . M . ' s next duty was of a more pleasant nature , being the presentation to Bro . E . J . A . Davy of a Past Master's jewel voted by the Lodge , and a P . M . collar and jewel which had been subscribed for b y his initiates . Bro . Davy suitably returned thanks . The W . M . stated that he was anxious to represent the Lodge at the

Boys School Centenary Festival , and Bro . Lazarus Secretary suggested that the usual sum of ten guineas be given from the Lodge Funds . Other members proposed to increase the amount to twenty and fifty guineas , but Bro . Dodson thought that as the Funds were in so flourishing a condition the Lodge might vote 100 guineas , and gave notice accordingly .

One resignation was accepted with regret , and the names of two gentlemen were proposed for initiation at the next meeting . Letters of apology were received from several Brethren , and there being no other business the Lodge was closed in due form , and adjourned till the first Monday in March . The bmquet was served in the Grand Hall , the scene of so many festive occasions , and was equal to the reputation of the proprietors , Messrs . Spiers an 1 Pond . Upon the removal of the cloth the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were submitted from tbe chair .

Bro . J . Mason P . G . St . B . responded for the Grand Officers , and testified to the work performed by them all , especially Earl Lathom , whom he had seen work every ceremony that it was possible for him to do . The Officers of Grand Lodge ruled over the destinies of our great Order , and every one of them was interested in promoting the best interests of the Craft . After thirty-three years hard work he personally had achieved Grand Lodge honours , and therefore he would say to all Masons work and -wait , and your time will come .

Bro . E . J . Davy , in eulogistic terms , proposed the health of the W . M ., and said he had rendered him every assistance during his year of office , and he had now the greatest pleasure to promise him his support while he was in the chair . Bro . Harry Lazarus , who was received with acclamation , returned thanks . He said it was a proi : d night for him , especially when he looked back , and remembered it was only twelve vears since he sat unon the rieM . of t , hn

W . M . on the occasion of h s initiation . Seven years ago he was elected as W . M . of tbe Lodge , and now once more , owing to circumstances which he need not explain , the Lodge had again placed him in the chair . He had never missed a single meeting since he had been a member , and he would always do his utmost to maintain the old traditions of the Lodge , which , with the assistance of the Brethren , would always be one of prosperity and good fellowship . °

The W . M . next gave the toast of the I . P . M ., who had achieved a great success , having had several initiates . His year of office was marked by a contribution of J 00 guineas from the Lodge Funds to the Benevolent Institution .

_ Bro . E . J . Davy returned thanks , but modestly attributed the success of his year to the Past Masters and Officers . Bro Lewis Lazarus , in replying to the toast of Installing Master , said it was certainly a unique occasion , as he had looked over the minute books for the last . ujrhty years , and he could only find one case in which a Father had initiated Ins son , but no case whore a Father had installed his son , for either the first m- second time . He considered it a great compliment and sincerely thanked Bro . Davy for permitting him to perform the ceremony

Reports Of Meetings.

Bro . John Mason responded to the toast of tbe Masonic Chanties , and said it was very gratifying to him that he was not obliged to ask their support , but had to thank the Brethren for the very handsome sums they had voted for the Charities . The Lodge had already given £ 105 to the Benevolent Institution , and he understood that 130 guineas had been added by the private liberality of the Brethren . They had also under consideration the contribution of 100 guineas to the Boys School , and he had no doubt that

the Lodge of Joppa would send up a large amount . He was specially grateful for their support in this emergency , as his Committee required between £ 16 , 000 and £ 17 , 000 a year , and , owing to the fact that this would be the Centenary of the Boys School , all the Lodges were working for that Institution , with the result that the Old Peoples' Festival was being neglected , and at present they had a hundred Stewards less than they had

this time last year . Bro . G . Linn of the Samson Lodge , L . S . Genese of the Baraarto Lodge , G . Parrett of the Duke of Edinburgh Indgo , J . W . Dewsnap of the Chough and other Lodges , M . Cohen of the Tranquillity Lodge , and others responded for the Visitors ; and the Officers and Past Masters having been complimented the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a pleasant termination at a somewhat late hour .

The speeches were interspersed by songs and music , the programme being conducted by Bro . W . H . Berry . Among those present wore Past Masters S . J . Roco , I . Botibol , W . J . Gardner , I . Cohen , Garrett , B . Wenzils ; Bros . J . G . Cross , E . G . Galloway , M . Jacobs , S . Silver , G . Van Volen , D . Kiztuiiiski , Harry Barneit , Henry Witmund , Edward M .
