G . Chaplain Deputy Provincial Grand Master , who was supported by the Officers . Among the Visitors present were Bro . C . F . Matier G . Sec ., and Bro . Gerald W . E . Loder , M . P .

The following Officers were appointed for the ensuing year , those present being invested with the insignia of their respective Office :

THIS new Mark Lodge , for which the Most Worshipful Grand Master recently granted a Warrant , was cousecrated on the 30 th ult ., at the Guildhall Tavern . The Lodge is numbered 499 on the roll of Grand Lodge . The Consecrating Officer was the Grand Secretary Brother Charles Fitzgerald Matier Past Grand Warden , while Bro . Major

Gordon Miller Past Grand Treasurer acted as Senior Warden , Major Walter E . Williams Grand Senior Deacon as Junior Warden , Rev . V . P . Wyatt G . Chaplain as Chaplain , Major C . W . Carrell G . D . C . as Director of Ceremonies , and Dr . A . Stewart Brown P . G . D . as Inner Guard .

After the usual formalities the Rev . V . P . Wyatt delivered the oration , and at the conclusion of the consecration ceremony Major Woolmer Williams was installed as the first Worshipful Master of the Lodge , and Bro . Wishart Past Provincial Deputy Grand Master Malta was appointed to act as Immediate Past

Master ; Bro . George S . Elliott , L . C . C ., was invested as Senior Warden , and N . Churcher as Junior Warden . The other Officers were : —Bros . Wade Sec , Fox Master Overseer , Briggs

Senior Overseer , T . Grummant Junior Overseer , Chas . Meierhoff Senior Deacon , Reid Junior Deacon , Cowley Registrar of Marks , Harris Inner Guard , H . F . Williams Director of Ceremonies , Tucker Steward , and Patrick Tyler .

Votes of thanks were afterwards passed to the Consecrating Officers , who were also elected honorary members of the Lodge , and several names of intending candidates for advancement to the Mark degree were given in , says the " City Press . " The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro .

W . Kipps P . M . Past Provincial Grand Organist Kent . In the course of the evening the following Craft Brethren were advanced as Mark Master Masons : —C . H . Wade , Fox , Biggs , Grummant , C . Meierhoff , Reid , Harris , H . F . Williams , T . Tucker and James Marcham .

The Brethren , when the ceremonies of the evening were concluded , closed the Lodge , and adjourned to an excellent banquet . The usual toasts followed .

Wales , and Bro . Lieut .-Colonel Gordon Deputy being present , with Bro . Henderson , of Llandudno , Prov . G . Sec and others .

At the opening ceremony Bro . the Rev . T . Edwards Grand Chaplain England P . P . G . ' Chap . N . Wales P . M . acted as W . M ., and the following Brethren were advanced : —Bros . R . G . Thomas , W . A . Foster , Dr . Grey Edwards , Rev . J . Fairchild , J . A . Rod way , Ainger Williams , and R . Baxter , the advancements being made by Bro . Edwards in a most impressive manner .

Bro . Lloyd Griffith ( Holyhead ) was installed W . M . in succession to Bro . A . M . Dunlop ( Festiniog ) , and appointed his Officers for the ensuing year . The banquet was served at the Victoria Hotel , under the excellent catering of Bro . R . G . Thomas . The usual Mark toasts were given , and the musical programme was furnished by Bros . Caradoc Rowlands P . P . G . S . O ., and J . A . Rodway J . D .

SINCERITY LODGE , No . 35 . AT the regular meeting at the Town Hall , Stonehouse , on Monday , Bro . G . H . Clarke W . M . presided . Congratulations were offered the Lodge on the recent attainment of three of its members in Provincial Grand Lodge . Immediately followed the annual election meeting of R . A . M . Lodge , which is

attached to Sincerity Mark , Bro . J . Parker W . C . N , in the chair . Bro . H . W . Mayne was unanimously elected W . C . N ., C . F . Dunsterville was re-elected Treasurer , and James Gidley re-elected Warder for the ensuing year .

TEMPLE LODGE , No . 50 . THE annual meeting was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Plymouth , on the 26 th ult ., when Bro . Major James Rendle was installed W . M . The

ceremony was impressively rendered by Bro . J . Kinton Bond P . P . G . J . W . After business the members and visitors adjourned to the dining hall , where the annual supper was admirably served by Bro . Batchelor , Steward of the Club .

CORNUBIAN LODGE , No . 87 . THE election meeting was held on Tuesday , 20 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Hayle , when Bro . Percy T . Chirgwin S . W . was unanimously chosen W . M . for the ensuing year , and Bro . J . 'G . Osborn P . M . was re-elected Treasurer .

UNANIMITY , FRIENDSHIP AND PHILANTHROPIC LODGE , No . 191 . AT the quarterly meeting , held at the Railway Hotel , Highbridge , Bro . F . W . Bishop , of Bridgwater , was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year , as successor to Bro . Hitchings Davies , of Somerton . Bro , J . Burnett P . M . was re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . W . Webber Tyler .

CHELMER LODGE , No . 342 . THIS Lodge held its annual meeting at Chelmsford , on Tuesday , 13 th ult ., when Bro . F . J . Snell , of Duamow , was installed as W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony being ably performed by Bro . J . P . Lewin P . M .

The Masonic Hall in course of erection at Amlwch , from the designs of Bro . R . G . Tuomas ( Menii Bridge ) , will be consecrated next month by Lord Harlech Provincial Grand Master of North Wales . o o o While it is but right and just to reject and denounce false

and ridiculous charges against Freemasonry , it is equally important to recognise the evils of which it is the cause . We are at present publishing a series of articles by a writer who has made its history and its action a particular study , and those who read these contributions cannot fail to perceive its real character .

The instructive article on the same topic which Mr . Kegan Paul has contributed to " Cornhill" will also be read with keen interest . Mr . Kegan Paul , who was at one time a Freemason himself , writes with great moderation . His words unmistakabl y bear the stamp of truth . His view of the Craft is that whilst in

England it is comparatively harmless , it had been associated on the Continent with all that is subversive of religion and order , and that the constant influx into the English-speaking countries of Jews and Continental Freemasons must necessarily bring into England much of the poison of the Continental sect .

Moreover , as a faithful Catholic , he is convinced that the Papal opposition to Freemasonry is well grounded . It has been condemned in special Bulls by Clement XII ., Benedict XIV ., Pius VII ., Leo XII ., and Pius IX ., and Leo XIII . has directed an Encyclical against the society . — " Catholic Times , "
