The Provincial Grand Master , in responding to his health , which was proposed with that of the other Provincial Officers , by Bro . P . M . Rutland , made an eloquent speech , in the course of which his lordship expressed his pleasure at being present . Masonry , he said , was older than monarchs or democracy . It was as old as the Bible , and had cemented high and low , rich

and poor , in one almighty brotherhood . He urged that charity was the beginning and end of Freemasonry , and in carrying out its principles they were doing the work of their Maker . There was no problem more difficult than the dealing with the vagrant poor and the aged and distressed , and if a

man was capable of being a master of a workhouse , as was their W . M . that evening , he was capable of being the master of a Lodge whose first principle should be the relief of distressed Brethren in every sphere of life . Other toasts followed .

LEOPOLD LODGE , No . 1760 . THE annual installation meeting was held at Scarborough , on Wednesday , 28 th ult ., when Bro . A . J . Lowe was inducted into the chair as ruler for the year . The usual banquet followed , at the Royal Hotel .

Bro . Runcieman having received the congratulations of the visiting Brethren , the Lodge was closed in due form . Subsequently the annual banquet was held , an excellent dinner being served by Bro . W . H . Curry . Bro . Runcieman W . M . presided , supported by Bro . R . Hudson Provincial Grand Secretary Durham , and others .

The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , the members of the Masonic choir and other Brethren rendering various glees and songs .

ARMY AND NAVY LODGE , No . 1971 . BY permission of the committee of the Officers' Club ,. this Lodge will in future meet at the Club House . The first assembly at the Club House was on the evening of the 22 nd ult ., on the occasion of the installation of the Worshipful Master for the year . It was at the unanimous wish of the Lodge that Bro . Colonel

John Davis , A . D . C , had consented to accept a second year of office , and he was duly installed by Bro . Surgeon-Major Grier . The Worshipful Master was also the recipient of a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , presented to him in acknowledgment of his services in the ehair during the past year .

A banquet , served by Mr . Peters , tho Club Steward , followed the installation . The W . M . presided , and was well supported , there being a good assemblage of members and visitors , among the latter Bro . Riehard Eve P . G . Treas .

APOLLO LODGE , No . 2042 . FOR the first time in the history of this Lodge , the wives , sisters , and other lady relatives ancl friends were entertained to dinner at the Masonic Hall , Liverpool , on Friday evening , 30 th ult ., by the members of the Lodge , and so much interest was taken in the gutuering that 115 sat down to a substantial banquet , including all the delicacies of the season , served by Bro . The Worshipful Master Bro . Harry Round Prov . G . Std . occupied the chair , and was supported by the Past Masters of the Lodge and others . The usual loyal toasts having been enthusiastically given and received , the musical Brethren , of whom there are a vast number in the Apollo , gave those present a choice programme of the very best selections , they providing their own orchestra , led by Bro . E . Clayton .

It need hardly be said that the whole proceedings were marked by a degree of enthusiasm and good fellowship seldom witnessed outside the Masonic fiaternity , remarks the "Liverpool Post , '' and much of the success was due to Bros . Round , Nichclls , Lane , Kirby , Dunn and Howell , who had the arrangements in hand .
