The brethren met at six o ' olook for tea , after whioh the Lodge was opened with solemn prayer and tbe minutes of tho previous meeting read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for Mr . G . H . Grocook , and being announced f »"" rrable , he was initiated into Freemasonry by Bro . R .

Whi ' o P . ' . i ) ••. of Cers . The working tools were presented and exphuued b . :. ; . Smith , and \ b- B . A . oharge given in an impressive manner by Bro . Start . Bros . Hardicker and Roworth being ready and willing to take the second degree were interrogated as to their proficiency in the firat , and having satisfactorily answered withdrew . Subsequently Bro . Roworth was passed to the degree of Fellow Craft

by Bro . Ontram , and Bro . Hardicker by the W . M ., and there being no further ceremonies to perform , hearty good wishes were expressed by the visiting brethren and the Lodge was closed in peace and harmony . At the social board the health of the Initiate was proposed in eulogistic terms by Bro . Brierley , and received with enthusiasm by the brethren . Brother Lisenden sang the E . A . song , after whioh Bro . Grocock responded in appropriate language . The health of

Bro . Roworth was proposed by Bro . Wrigley , as waa that of Bro . Hardicker by Brother White . Both the newly-passed brethren replied . Bio . Start proposed the Visiting Brethren , and the toast was drunk with great heartiness , after whioh Bro . Wrigley played a solo on the antoharp , and was deservedly warmly applauded . Other toasts , including the W . M . and the Officers , were proposed and responded to . A pleasant but necessarily short evening was spent .

A MEETING took place at the Old Boar's Head , Hyde ' s Cross , on Wednesday , 29 th ult . Present—Bros . Battye W . M ., Pavalo S . W ., Robinson J . The Lodge was opened at 7 o'clock with solemn prayer , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . The following gentlemen were ballotted for and

elected to become members , viz .: —Messrs . Kent , Savage , Webb , Stewart , and Hamilton . They were subsequently initiated into Freemasonry , the two former by Bro . W . T . Sohofield P . M ., the next two by Bro . J . W . Sohofield P . M . and the last named gentleman by tho W . M . There being no further business the Lodge was formally closed .

LODGE OP ASAPH , No . 1319 .

THE annual meeting was held on Monday , at tho Freemasons Hall , Loudon . This Lodge was established over twenty yeoTs ago for the convenience of members of the dramatic and mnsical professions , and it is mostly from these callings that the Lodge is reoruited . The meeting was held in the Zetland room , which , during

the Long Vacation , has been bountifully decorated , and the paintings iu which , including the likeness of Sir Christopher Wren Grand Master in 1685 , by Sir Godfrey Kneller , have been restored . Bro . Tom de Bmnnow Holmos the Master presided , and after the formal preliminaries had been observed he committed to Bro . Faircbild tho

office of Installing Master . Bro . Fairchild then assumed the chair , and installed Bro . Bishop ( Bro . Henry Irving ' s company ) as Master of the Lodge for the ensuing year . The Wardens appointed were Bros . Penley and Hambleton , the Treasurer Bro . Wellard , and the Secretary Bro . Tinney . A gathering of nearly 200 brethren witnessed the ceremony , and afterwards dined at the Freemasons' Tavern .

AVON LODGE , No . 1633 ( MANCHESTER ) .

A MEETING was held on Wednesday , 28 th October , at Bro . Tom Wood ' s , Wheatsheaf Hotel . Amongst those present were Bros . Farrington W . M ., Kenworthy S . W ., Batteraby J . W ., Craven P . M . Hey . wood Waddington Chaplain , Harrop Treasurer , Hilton Seoretary , Beever S . D ., Ward J . D ., Nail Dir . of Cera ., Smith Organist , Mercer I . Q ., Brockbank , Armstrong , and Watson Stewards , and Kirk Tyler . Tiie ceremony throughout was well done , and reflected great credit

on all concerned . Prior to the Lodge being closed , a letter was read from the Secretary of the Minniehaha Minstrel Society , promising a performance of this celebrated troupe in aid of the East Lancashire Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution , and the Royal Mnsotio Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons and Widows .

lhe announcement waa received with applanse , as there is very little doubt a handsome sum will be realised . There being no farther business , the Lodge was formally closed . The brethren later ou celebrated the Festival of St . John with " a recherche banquet , after whioh the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were honoured , inolnding the health of the new Worshipful Master .

BISHOPSGATE LODGE , No . 2396 . THE second regular meeting of this newly conseorated Lodge waa held on Monday , the 26 th nltimo , at the Great Eastorn Hotel , Bishopagate , nnder the presidenoy of the Worshipful Master Bro . Johnson , C . C . The business of the evening included the electtoo and initiation of Messrs . E . H . Mead and G . E . Mead , sons of Bro . Mead , C . C , and the passing of Bro . Gadson , and others . The Lodge Binco its consecration in April last has made rapid strides ,

and it is anticipated that being essentially a Bishopsgate Ward Lodge , it will be a very great success indeed . The members of the Lodge dined together later in tbe evening , the banquet being served by the management in their very best style . Aft » r the nsnal Craft and Loyal toasts , the health of the initiates was dr , nnk with enthusiasm , aud was replied to by both candidates . Bro . Clarke , in giving the

health of the Worshipful Master , said he had known their respected friend Bro . Johnson a great many years , and had seen him filling a similar position iu another Lodge ; but whether in the public service or in private—in all capacities in whioh he had known him—he always elicited from those about him the greatest possible respect and esteem . Owing to illuess , he had been unable to be present at the

previous meeting of the Lodge , so that this was the first ocoasion in which he had been with them , and he had been most agreeably surprised ofc tho admirable working of the ritual that evening . Most of those present were able to appreciate how arduous was the task for a man of tho ago of the Worshipful Master to make himself so efficient in the ceremonials of tho Order as Bro . Johnson had done .

They must also boar iu mind that the W . M . was not merely Master of that Lodge , ha was Chief Commoner of the first Corporation in tho world , and that r . n immense amount of work fell to his lot , giving him but very littlo time to obtain a clear knowledge of all that it was necossnry to remember . Their W . M . would obtain for them , therefore , a moat chourf ul recoguition . When the starting of the Lodge

was first talked about , they cast about to see who was most fitted to be placed in tho chair , and they all felt that Bro . Johnson bad preeminent claim * , as his father mid his grandfather had all been inhabitants of the Ward . Tboro was another member of the Lodge who hud similar claims 10 cucceeri their Worshipful Master , for he was an old Biolwpsgute boy . They all hoped to get him in the chair .

He congratulated tbe Master npou the ability and zeal Bhown by his Officers in the performance of tbeir duties . Altogether , he thought they had every reason to be prond of the auspices under whioh the Lodge was started . Tho Worshipful Master stated the great interest which he had felt in the starting of tbe Lodge . It was no small honour to him to elect him to tbe chair . He gave " The health of the

Acting Immediate Past Master , Bro . Henry Clarke , C . C , who was a man of considerable repute in tho world . In all departments of life , however , Bro . Clarke had done good and worthy service . They all trusted that he would retain his health and vigour for many years to come , but sympathetic brethren there would always make his

position a happy one . Bro . Henry Clarke acknowledged the toast , and the Master then proposed " The Officers , " to which Mr . Alderman Danes , Mr . Depnty Dadswell ( Treasurer ) , and Mr . Milton Smith ( Secretary ) , replied . Other toasts followed , and the Tyler's toast , given by Mr . R . H . Goddard , brought a most enjoyable even * ing ' s proceedings to a close .

Walthamstow Lodge of Instruction , No . 2192 . — The weekly meeting was held on Monday , 2 nd November , at Bridge Chambers , Hoe Street Station , Walthamstow . Bros . Westfield W . M ., Kershaw S . W ., Fortescne J . W ., Shurmur Preceptor , Cook S . D ., Taylor J . D ., Clark I . G ., Bestow Secretary , Collett Steward , Spnrgeon Orgauut ; also Bros . Alien , King , Dunbar , Smith , Jeremy , Lloyd , Short , Parsons , Stacey , Trickett , G . Shurmur , Bateman ,

BISHOPSGATE LODGE , No . 2396 . THE second regular meeting of this newly conseorated Lodge waa held on Monday , the 26 th nltimo , at the Great Eastorn Hotel , Bishopagate , nnder the presidenoy of the Worshipful Master Bro . Johnson , C . C . The business of the evening included the electtoo and initiation of Messrs . E . H . Mead and G . E . Mead , sons of Bro . Mead , C . C , and the passing of Bro . Gadson , and others . The Lodge Binco its consecration in April last has made rapid strides ,

and it is anticipated that being essentially a Bishopsgate Ward Lodge , it will be a very great success indeed . The members of the Lodge dined together later in tbe evening , the banquet being served by the management in their very best style . Aft » r the nsnal Craft and Loyal toasts , the health of the initiates was dr , nnk with enthusiasm , aud was replied to by both candidates . Bro . Clarke , in giving the

health of the Worshipful Master , said he had known their respected friend Bro . Johnson a great many years , and had seen him filling a similar position iu another Lodge ; but whether in the public service or in private—in all capacities in whioh he had known him—he always elicited from those about him the greatest possible respect and esteem . Owing to illuess , he had been unable to be present at the

previous meeting of the Lodge , so that this was the first ocoasion in which he had been with them , and he had been most agreeably surprised ofc tho admirable working of the ritual that evening . Most of those present were able to appreciate how arduous was the task for a man of tho ago of the Worshipful Master to make himself so efficient in the ceremonials of tho Order as Bro . Johnson had done .

They must also boar iu mind that the W . M . was not merely Master of that Lodge , ha was Chief Commoner of the first Corporation in tho world , and that r . n immense amount of work fell to his lot , giving him but very littlo time to obtain a clear knowledge of all that it was necossnry to remember . Their W . M . would obtain for them , therefore , a moat chourf ul recoguition . When the starting of the Lodge

was first talked about , they cast about to see who was most fitted to be placed in tho chair , and they all felt that Bro . Johnson bad preeminent claim * , as his father mid his grandfather had all been inhabitants of the Ward . Tboro was another member of the Lodge who hud similar claims 10 cucceeri their Worshipful Master , for he was an old Biolwpsgute boy . They all hoped to get him in the chair .

He congratulated tbe Master npou the ability and zeal Bhown by his Officers in the performance of tbeir duties . Altogether , he thought they had every reason to be prond of the auspices under whioh the Lodge was started . Tho Worshipful Master stated the great interest which he had felt in the starting of tbe Lodge . It was no small honour to him to elect him to tbe chair . He gave " The health of the

Acting Immediate Past Master , Bro . Henry Clarke , C . C , who was a man of considerable repute in tho world . In all departments of life , however , Bro . Clarke had done good and worthy service . They all trusted that he would retain his health and vigour for many years to come , but sympathetic brethren there would always make his

position a happy one . Bro . Henry Clarke acknowledged the toast , and the Master then proposed " The Officers , " to which Mr . Alderman Danes , Mr . Depnty Dadswell ( Treasurer ) , and Mr . Milton Smith ( Secretary ) , replied . Other toasts followed , and the Tyler's toast , given by Mr . R . H . Goddard , brought a most enjoyable even * ing ' s proceedings to a close .

Walthamstow Lodge of Instruction , No . 2192 . — The weekly meeting was held on Monday , 2 nd November , at Bridge Chambers , Hoe Street Station , Walthamstow . Bros . Westfield W . M ., Kershaw S . W ., Fortescne J . W ., Shurmur Preceptor , Cook S . D ., Taylor J . D ., Clark I . G ., Bestow Secretary , Collett Steward , Spnrgeon Orgauut ; also Bros . Alien , King , Dunbar , Smith , Jeremy , Lloyd , Short , Parsons , Stacey , Trickett , G . Shurmur , Bateman ,

Long , Horst , Jatne ? , Bostick , Briginshaw , Ives P . M ., Maynard , Wilson , Hamilton , Wildash P . M ., Pinder P . M ., Fuller , Brown , MacColla , Young . The Lidge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation Wf 3 rehearsed , Bro . Lloyd candidate ; the Ancient Charge was delivered by Bro . Fortescue J . W . Bro . Kershaw was unanimously eleoled to occupy the chair at the eusuiug meeting . There being no further business , tho Lodge was close 1 .
