The Provincial Grand Senior Warden said he was commissioned by his Lodge to invite the Provincial Grand Master to hold his annual meeting for 1889 at Norwich , promising that they would do all in their power to make

the meeting a success . Lord Henniker said since he had had the honour to preside over this Province , he had made it a rule to hold his annual meeting in rotation in the four Counties of which the Province -was composed . Next year

it would be the turn of the county of Norfolk , so that he should have great pleasure in accepting the cordial invitation of the Walpole Lodge . As regarded the date of meeting

he could not , of course , fix it positively now ; but he thought that somewhere about Whitsuntide would be a more convenient time than June . Bro . Thos . J . Railing

expressing his regret that Lord Henniker was unable to stay to the banquet , said he was sure the Provincial Grand Lodge would desire , before his Lordship left them , to tender him their sincere thanks for his presence , and to

express the hope that he might soon be fully restored to health . Bro . Levvin , as the oldest Past Master of the Chelmer Lodge , seconded the vote of thanks , which was

carried , and briefly acknowledged by his Lordship . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the White Hart Hotel where they dined together , under tho presidency of the Provincial Grand Senior Warden .

FT"iHlS Lodge held their installation meeting iu the Masonic Hall , J- Park-street , Torqnay , on Wednesday , the 20 th nit ., when Bro . Benjamin Knight , tho W . M . elect , was installed W . ON Thursday , 28 th nit ., the members celebrated the annual Festival of St . John the Baptist , and tbe occasion was rendered specially interesting from the fact that the Ri ght Hon . Lord Brooke Provincial Grand Master , honoured tho Lodge by his presence , tho first time his Lordship had visited the Lodgo siucu his installation , nt Colchester , in 1883 , by H . R . H . tho late Duke of Albany . There wat

a large attendance of members and brethren to meet his Lordshi p , and the whole proceedings passed off with groat eclat . IT . is Lord-ihi p attended the Show of tho Exeter Agricultural Society in the morning , and left at 2 * 30 , reaching Colchester at 4 * 7 . Ho was met at Colchester Railway Station by Bros . Henneinoyor and Welch P . P . G .

Wardens , and escorted by them to the Lodge Room , where ho was received with the honours due to his rank . Tho business of the dnv commenced with tho installation of the W . M . elect , Bro . Frank Quilter S . W ., the ceremony being performed in a most able manner by the outgoing Worshipful Master , Bro . Georce Harrison P . M .

of Essex . Bro . Grimes seconded the motion , whioh was supported by Bro . Ives ; and , having been carried by acclamation , Lord Brooke thanked the brethren for the hearty way in which he hail been received iu the Angel Lodge . He had been looking forward to the pleasure of coming , and ho congratulated tho Lodgo upon tho way in

which tho ceremony of installation had been performed by Bro . Harrison . In his Masonic experience he had never seen it better performed than now . The W . M . proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Harrison for his services ; remarking that after the commendation of the R . W . P . G . M . he need not say anything to ensure for the vote the

support of the Brethren . The S . W ., Bro . Horsinan , seconded the proposition , and it having beau carried by acclamation , Bro . Harrison returned thanks . Ho said ho had only completed hia duty as W . M . by installing his successor . Bro . Welch feelingly alluded to the sad event that took place in tho Lodge at the last meeting , when

Bro . Frederic Wright was seized with illness dnring the ceremonies , aud died within 21 hours . Ho proposed that the Secretary be instructed to commnnica : e to Mrs . Wright and family tho sincorost condolence of the Lodge with them iu the affliction that had befallen them . Tho W . M . seconded tho proposal , which was unanimously

carried . The Lodge was shortly afterwards closed , and about sixty brethren later on dined together at the Cups Hotel , a splendid dinner being well served by the Manager , Bro . Chas . Edwards . In the course of the evening tbe health of the R . W . P . G . M . was proposed by the W . M ., and his Lordship in responding again spoke of tne

pleasure which it had given him to be present on the occasion . He was well aware of the high position the Angel Lodge held as the senior Lodge of his Province j and also of tho continued support the members of it had given to the great Masonic Charities . He called attention to tho fact that the Lodge had given the light to several

distinguished Masons ; referring especially to Bro . John Mann , who ho was glad tr > see present , and who ho know did good service to Masonry in the Province , as Secretary to one of his ( Lord Brooke ' s ) predecessors , Bro . Bagshaw . He also mentioned the name of Bro . Railing , who was well known amongst them as a devoted Mason .

His Lordship subsequently proposed the health of tho W . M ., wishing for Bro . Quilter a happy and successful year of office . Later in the ovening his Lordship left the Lodge , amidst the plaudits of the Brethren , and returned to town by a train at 9 p . m . A capital musical programme was rendered by Bros . Osmond , Turner , Sparling ,

Coombs , and Masters Nnnu and Siggers ; and Bro . Prank Smythies contributed two or three masterly solo 3 ou the violin , which was much appreciated by the Brethren . It should be mentioned that , previous to his entering the Lodge , the R . W . P . G . M . was presented with a handsome button-hole bouquet by Miss Fanny Quilter , the little daughter of the W . M .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 104

11 HIS Lodge held their annnal picnic on Wednesday , the 20 th ulfc , . The party , numbering 40 members and ladies , drove in a brake with fonr horses from Stockport , at noon , their destination being Disley , via Adliugton and Pott Shrigley , and by special permission of Col . Legh the conveyance was allowed to pass through Lyme Park . The hall , grounds , and gardens were inspected and duly

admired , after which the party proceeded to the Ram ' s Head Hotel , Disley , where a sumptuous tea was provided by Mrs . Winterbottom , who was rewarded by a hearty vote of thanks . Tho remainder of

the evening was passed in a most enjoyable manner , the party leaving shortly after nine o ' clock , all being delighted with the tri p , which was considered one of the most successful and enjoyable ever held by the Lodge .

FIDELITY LODGE , No . 555

THE anniversary meeting of this Lodgo was held at the Crown Hotel , Framlingham , on Wednesday , the 27 th nit ., when Bro . T . W . Read was installed as W . M . of the Lod go for the ensuing year . Tho installation was very impressively performed by Bro . Fraser . Having beeu duly installed , the W . M . invested his officers as under :-Bros . William Balls S . W ., William Purser J . W ., W . M . alluded to the fact that Lord Henniker was a member of the Fidelity Lodge . Bro . the Rev . R . Owen Davies proposed the Dapr . ty Prov . G . Master ( Rev . C . J .

Martyn ) -ind the rest of the Prov . Grand Lodgo Officers present and past . Bro . Minter responded for tho present , and Bro . Carley for the past Officers . Bro . J . Martin proposed the Worshi pful Master of the Fidelity Lodge , and expressed his confidence that during Bro . Read ' s term of office the Masonic work would bo done in a way which would , reflect credit ou himself am ! honour on the Lod"e . Tho W . M .

in response said ho regretted that the honour ot being elected to tho chair had not fallen upon some brother who had not previously occupied that position , but as cho choice of tho brethren had fallen npon him , his best endeavours would be devoted to the advancement of the interests of the Lodgo . Before sitting down he proposed the health of the Immediate Past Master , Bro . the Rev . R . Peek , who responded in a neat and amusing speech . Bro . the Rov . Ii . Peek next proposed tho Installing Master , Bro . J . 13 . Eraser . He ; aid tho excellent and

impressive maimer iu wnich Bro . Eraser hod dkeha' -ged his duties on that and previous occasions show ., d that he was a most admirable Mason . Bro . Eraser in reply said it was now twenty years since he first made tho acquaintance of the Fidelity Lodgo . During thoso years n gre > it many good .-aid true Mnsoii 3 had disappeared , but he tvji . iced to see that otheis had taken their place ? , who would prove an element of strength to the Lodge . It had given him great pleasure to instal for the second time such a worthy Mason as Bro .
