Royal Masonic Institution For Boys.

It was reported that in the case of Frank Sutton Harrison , No . 23 on list of Candidates for Election on the 13 th inst ., the number of children dependent on the mother had been reduced to i ve , from nine as named on the voting papers , three of the original number Laving been fortunately placed in other Institutions .

A letter was read from the Grand Secretary intimating his wish that he should not be re-nominated for the office of Treasurer , to which he had been elected last year . The only nomination for the office was made by

Bro . Everett , who submitted the name of Bro . Charles E . Keyser P . G . D . Patron of the Institution ; and he will therefore be declared elected at the Quarterly Court next week .

The five retiring members of the Board of Management representing London , viz : —Bros . Attenborough , Everett , Glass , Scurrah and J . Willing jun ., being the only ones nominated , will be re-elected without opposition . For the five vacancies representing the Provinces there

were nine nominations , but one was declared invalid . Three of the eight seek re-election , viz : —Bros . Le Feuvre ( Hants and I . of W . ) , Smithson ( West Yorks . ) , and "Vassar-Smith ( Glosters . ) . In place of Bro . Bodenham ( who dees not seek re-election ) , the Province of

Staffordshire nominates Bro . W . H . Bailey , the well-known London Manager of Bass and Co ., who is aP . P . G . B . of that Province . In place of Bro . E . W . Bourne , West Lancashire nominates Bro . J . W . Burgess , of London , he being

a P . M . of No . 1325 and a P . P . G . D . of that Province , and , like Bro . Bailey , a "Vice President of the Institution . The other Brethren nominated are Bros . J . Bradley ( Durham ) , Manfield ( Norths , and Hunts . ) and Margrett ( Berkshire ) .

It was intimated that the Province of Kent desired to purchase a perpetual presentation , to be called " The Eastes presentation , " and the Board of Management had unanimously agreed to recommend the Quarterly Court to grant same . The price to be £ 1 , 260 , being an advance of 200 guineas over the previous presentations .

It was also reported that a special vote of thanks had been accorded by the Board of Management to Bro . W . A . Scurrah , for the very efficient way in which he had superintended the repairs and alterations to buildings , & c , during the past three years .

CONSECRATION : VALE OF EDEN , No . 2493 .

IN the presence of a very large and influential gathering the Consecration of this Lodge took place at the Tufton Arms Hotel , Appleby , on the 30 th ult . At 11-30 the ceremony of Consecration was performed by

Bro . Geo . J . M'Kay , J . P ., Deputy Provincial Grand Master P . G . Standard Bearer of England . Bro . the Eev . James Anderson , as P . G . Chaplain and Assistant Secretary , addressed the Brethren assembled in Lodge : —

Freemasonry , he said , was described as a " peculiar system of morality , veiled in allegory , and illustrated by symbols . " Morality is religion . There can be no separation between the two ; without religion there can be no

morality . It starts with a belief in a Divine Being , and His sacred law speaks to all— " He hath showed thee , O man , what is good ; and what doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly , to love mercy , and to walk humbly

with ihy God . " That is the morality of Masonry , and that is the morality of religion . Masonry employs allegory and symbol ; the former inculcates moral truths by dark sayings , the latter by outward and visible signs .

The three grand principles on which the Order is founded are—brotherly love , relief , and truth . Its members are Brethren , and are to be linked together by the golden

chain of love . With the utterance of that spirit we open and close our Lodges— " That our labours thus begun in order , may be conducted in peace , and closed in harmony . " Love unites the whole .

Behold , how good a thing it is , And how becoming well , Together such as brethren we , In unity to dwell .

" Pity is akin to love , " and here the principle of relief comes in , so beautifully expressed in our Masonic Eitual . Hence those schools , and schemes of benevolence and charity which rise up to call her blessed . Truth follows

in her train . We relieve because we are true , and we are true because we love , a trinity of gvaces in unity , which disdains hypocrisy and sham . In keeping with these principles are the qualifications of candidates for

the mysterious secrets of Master Mason— " Just , upright , and free men , of mature ago , sound judgment , and strict morals . " We seek not the world ' s honour , but we desire the world to know us ; we seek not praise , but we desire to be praiseworthy .

Our actions still by virtue blessed , And to our precepts ever true , The world , admiring , shall request To learn , and our bright paths pursue . And now for the remaining ceremony of this consecration

hour . The vale of Eden is as one risen from the dead . Her now warrant stands upon the ruins of the old . This is the day of her rejoicing as it is the day of her resuscitation . May the Yale become as the Garden ol Eden in the pristine charms of its primeval state before

the apple hy the Arch Deceiver was touched , which marred the fair and spoiled the innocent , and demoralised posterity . May she gather into her embrace the sons of the mighty , the leal-hearted , and the true ; may her

future career be one of progress in the enjoyment of unity , peace and concord , and may the eyes of Appleby be proud to own the purple and the blue , and that she has within her not merely an Ovder and a name , but a science and a life . Afterwards the ceremony of Installation was

performed by Bro . G . Dalrymple P . P . S . G . W . P . G . Sec , assisted by Bros . James G . Gandy P . S . G . W . S . W ., E . Clarke P . G . J . W . J . W ., Eev . James Anderson as P . G . Chaplain , E . P . Hunter P . G . D . C . D . C ., D . H . Cook P . G .

Organist . Bro . Charles Eobert Eivington P . G . Steward of England was duly invested as Master , Bro . George Thomas as S . W ., and Bro . James Postlethwaite Watson as J . W .

At three o ' clock a luncheon was held in the Assembly Boom of the Tufton Arms Hotel . A splendid spread was laid on the table by Bro . James Postlethwaite Watson .

Afterwards the Loyal and Masonic toasts were given by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and the prosperity of the Vale of Eden Lodge was drunk with Masonic honours .
