EBORACUM LODGE , No . 1611 .

A NUMEROUSLY attended special meeting of the members of this Lodge , with several visitors , took place on Monday night , at the Masonic Booms , Queen Hotel , York , the W . M . Bro . M . Milling , ton presiding . The Lodge was called off for the purpose of presenting to Bro . Churchill an address , beautifully illuminated on vellum , by Mr . J . E . Morton , of this city , on the occasion of his relinquishing the management of the hotel , where he has catered for the brethren

since the consecration of the Lodge in 1876 . The presentation was made by the Worshipfnl Master with suitable remarks , which wero endorsed by Bros . Whytehead P . M ., Blenkin S . W ., Padel P . M ., Bamford Treasurer , and others . The address was as follows : —At a special meeting of tbe Eboracum Lodge of Freemasons , held at the Masonic Rooms , Queen's Hotel , York , on Monday , tho 2 nd April

1883 , it waa moved by the W . M ., and seconded by Bro . Whytehead , and unanimously resolved "That the cordial thanks of the members of the Lodge be given to Bro . H . Churchill for his kind and fraternal con - duct for a period of over six years , during which the Eboracum Lodge has held its meetings under his roof , together with their heartfelt wish thafc he may long be spared to continue a worthy Craftsman in their

Churchill responded in appropriate terms , thanking the brethren for their kind consideration to him during the six years be had catered for the Lodge , and also

for the splendid presentation they had jnst made him . He wonld still continue to take a deep interest in the welfare of the Eboracum Lodge . The brethren afterwards partook of supper , after which a lengthy toast list was submitted , including the health and future prosperity of Bro . Churchill , which was received with enthusiasm . Various songs and glees were contributed by Bros . Wilkinson , Child , Cumberland , Humphries , and others .

Bothesay Lodge , No . 1687 . —A regular meeting of the above Lodge was held on the 4 th instant , afc the Inns of Court Hotel , Lincoln's-inn-fields . Bros . W . C . Parsons W . M ., E . Durefc S . W ., F . Green J . W ., L . Beck P . P . G . O . Middlesex Treasurer , J . B . Docker Secretary , G . Valerian ! S . D ., F . V . Green J . D ., H . M . Levy P . M . 188 as I . G . ; and Bros . Shaw and H . Gros . Lodge was opened , and the

minutes were confirmed . Bro . Baptisto Barroni , having answered fche necessary questions in a very satisfactory manner , was passed to the second degree , in the perfect way that the W . M . has invariably performed his duties in both this and another Lodge , No . 180 , wherein he filled the chair , to the satisfaction of all the members . The byelaws were read . This being the nighfc for the election of a Worship .

ful Master for the ensuing year , the choice of the brethren was unanimously in favour of Bro . E . Dnret , the announcement of whose election was warmly received by the brethren , and endorsed by fche W . M ., who stated Bro . Dnret was the firsfc initiate . Bro . Duret , in very appropriate terms , thanked the members for the honour they had shown him . Bro . L . Beck was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . Bros . Gros , Hawkins , and Shaw were appointed Auditors . The

resignation of a brother was announced , and accepted with regret . Bro . L . Beck then proposed that the usual Lodge jewel be presented to tho retiring W . M . for fche able manner in which he had , in every way , conducted the duties of the chair , to their entire satisfaction . This was seconded by the S . W ., and carried unanimously . Lodge was then closed until October . , There being no banquet the brethren seperated .

The M . W . the Grand Master H . R . H . the Prince of Wales has granted a warrant for a new Lodge , to he called the Priory Lodge of Acton , No . 1996 , and to meet at the Royal Oak Assembly Rooms , High Street , Acton , W . Brother

We congratulate Brother Magnus Ohren , P . G . A . D . C ., on the recognition made by the Shareholders at the Ordinary Half-Yearly General Meeting of the Crystal Palace District Gas Company , which was held at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , E . G ., on Friday , the 16 th ultimo , Bro .

Erasmus Wilson , LL . D ., P . R . S ., in the chair . It is always a pleasant thing to realise the fact that one ' s efforts are appreciated by those we serve , and the substantial increment made to onr esteemed brother ' s salary on this occasion fully confirmed , in his case , this fact .

Last week we formally announced the removal of Thomas Woodward , No . 32 on the list , from those who would compete at the coming election for the Boys' School . At that time we were unable to state the reason for this step , but a

letter from Bro . R . P . Gould , which wo publish iu another column , supported by private information we have received , enables us now to explain the matter . It appears that a sister of the lad Woodward has been nominated as a candidate for the Girls' School ( No . 10 on the list ) , and

the friends feeling it was impossible to carry the boy ' s case—as the next would have been his last chance—and finding that the fact of his being a candidate interfered with his friends procuring votes for his sister , —in consequence of the objections many brethren entertain of

allowing two members of a family to benefit by the Schools , —wisely determined on withdrawing this lad ' s application , thereby proving they only desired the benefits of the Masonic Schools for ono member of the family . We trust this explanation will satisfy

any who were prejudiced in this case , and that the efforts of Bro . Gould and others who are working on behalf of the girl may prove successful . The letter we

already referred to gives some further details in reference to the father of the children than have hitherto been presented to the Craft , and its perusal may perhaps secure a few stray votes .

We must not omit to remind subscribers that we shall , as usual , be pleased to receive any proxies they may have at their disposal , and assure them we shall do our best to have them judiciously distributed among the most deserving cases .

A very successful meeting was held afc St . James ' s Hall , on Wed . nesday evening , in view to organising a Memorial Fund for the family of the late lessee of the Alexandra Palace . Upwards of £ 250 was subscribed in the room , and an Executive Committee was appointed , with Bro . Wm . Tinsley , of Catherine-sfcreet , as Treasurer , and Bro . H . T . Thompson , of Clapton , as Hon . Secretary . The Committee Room is at 31 Villiers-street , Strand .
