Eastgate suitably acknowledged the gift , and the kindly expressions which had accompanied it . He

then gave the toast of the Initiates . By the attention they had paid to tho ceremony , ho felt they wonld not only bo a oredit to tho Lodge , but also to tho Craft in general . The Initiates in brief hut appropriate terms responded to the toast . The W . M . then said ho had great pleasure in proposing tho toast of the Officers and members of the Abbey Lodge , nnd felt honoured by the presence of all but the

W . M ., whose absense they regretted . They had , however , good representatives in the I . P . M ., Wardens , and brethren . Tho City of Westminster Lodge had signed the petition for the Lodge , and was proud of it . The W . M . hoped that the good feeling bet weed them might long continue ; he called on the I . P . W . in a very eloquent speech followed , and hoped that tho future of tho Citv of Westminster Lodge might be one of prosperity . Tho toast of the Visitors was given , Bros . Draper P . M . 1305 and Carrick responding . The toast of the P . M . followed , the W . M . speaking of the assistance they had rendered to the Lodge . He coupled with

the toast the health of the Treasurer , Bro . J . Hammond P . M ., and tho Secretary , Bro . J . E . Shand P . M ., whose knowledge of the duties of their respective offices could not be eqnallod . Bro . Phillips in a very humourous and eloquent speeoh replied , followed by Bros . Hammond and Shand . The latter felt prond to see the members of Abbey Lodge present . Tho toast of the Wardens and other Officers , and the Tyler ' s toast , oonolnded a very delightful and harmonious evening .

EBORACUM CHAPTER , No . 1616 . THE regular meeting of this Chapter was held on Tuesday night , a the Masonio Rooms , Qneen's Hotel , Micklegate , York , when the following Officers were elected for the ensuing year : —Comps . Simpson Z ., Millington H ., Whytehead P . Z . J ., Tumor Treasurer , Kay S . E ., Blenkin S . N ., Brown P . S ., Turner and Lackenby Auditors . The installation meeting will be hold in February .

The testimonial which , as our readers aro awaro , has been raised during the current year for tho purpose of testifying to the valuable services rendered by Bro . W . J . Hughan P . G . D . in the cause of Masonic literature was presented to that brother on Wednesday , shortly before

tho time appointed for the meeting of Grand Lodge . It was thought advisable that a luncheon should be served to those invited to take part in the interesting event , and this over , Brother Sir . J . B . Monckton , who occupied the chair , rose and delivered a speech in every way appropriate

to the occasion . Brother Monckton spoke warmly of the literary labours of Bro . Hughan , and the immense advantage which must result therefrom to the Craft generally . He also laid stress on the admirable manner in which Bro . Hughan had discharged the ordinary dnties of a Mason ,

his services to the cause of charity , and the distinctions which had been so worthily conferred upon him in his Province as well as by Grand Lodge . He then handed to Bro . Hughan a purse containing cheque for the full sum contributed , namely £ 364 , Brother George Kenning ,

Treasurer of the Testimonial fund , having generously foregone all idea of saddling it with the usual necessary expenses . The purse was accompanied by a handsome writing table , and Brother Monckton having expressed

the pleasure he felt at having been chosen as the medium for presenting these evidences of the Craft's respect and esteem , Brother Hughan briefly , but cordially , returned his acknowledgments , and the meeting separated .

Shatter , Botley , Brown , Pidcock ; visitors—Brothers Cubitt and W . Williams . After preliminaries the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed by the W . M ., Bro . Sims candidate . Tho W . M . vacated the chair , and the Preceptor rehearsed the ceremony of raising , Bro . Williams candidate . On the W . M . resuming , Bro . G . Gardner was elected to nreside at the next meeting . This was tho first

appearance of the Preceptor since hi illness ; he returned thanks for the letter of sympathy sent him . Lodge was then closed . The brethren spent a vory enjoyable honr together in harmonv , Bro .
