Golden Rule Lodge , No . 1261 . —This flourishing Lodge met on the 2 nd inst ., at the Regent Masonic Hall , Air-street , Regent-street . James Lewis W . M ., W . Emden as S . W ., Wolfsky P . M . as J . W ., Dr . Allworth P . M . Treas ., Longley P . M . Hon . Sec , Adkin S . D . Beckett I . G ., S . Williams Steward , Goddard P . M . Tyler , I . P . M . Jessop . After preliminaries , ballots were taken for

the admission of Bro . W . Holland ( lessee Royal Surrey Theatre ) , P . M . 157 , and F . M . Mundy , No . 859 , which were unanimously in their favour . Some resignations were announced , and accepted with regret . Lodge was then closed . After banquet the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were given . Bro . M . Jessop I . P . M . proposed the toast of the W . M ., who is popular and well respected by those in

the Lodge , and many out of it knew his worth . The W . M . thanked Bro . Jessop for his kind expressions ; he believed there was no Lodge more united than theirs . He regretted he had not had more work to do for them , but his services would always be at their disposal . To the toast of the Visitors , Bro . Richards said , if they would accept him as a joining member , he would be only too pleased to be enrolled amon «

Emden is a man of strict integrity , and when elected to fill the chair would do his duty to their satisfaction . If I differ in opinion from an older member of the Craft than my

self , I am told I disturb the ancient landmarks of the Order . If in Grand Lodge one brother cannot reply to the arguments of another , he accuses his opponent of a desire of overstepping the landmarks of the Order . If the shining light who protests he never read the magazine , writes a good sheet of foolscap to complain that his speech at the Pig and Whistle Lodge was omitted ( from your magazine ) he

also tells , in his case , the ancient landmarks are in danger . There are four tribunals to which Masons are amenable , viz ., the ancient Charges and Constitntions of the Order ; the by-laws of their Lodges ; the Board of General Purposes , and tho ancient landmarks of the Order . The last is the most terrible of all , as no one knows what thoy are , nor what fchey mean , while every man silences his r . eighbour by an appeal nofc to throw clown the landmarks of the Order .

Editor , —Toll us , tell ns where these landmarks are planted ? whom they affect ? what is their use ( or abuse ) ? and auy other information you please , for I , for one , am heartily tired of having that old fogey—the ancient landmarks—thrust down my gullet on every occasion . But excuse me if I add , don't tell me , in asking these queries , I have trodden down any of the aucienfc landmarks of the Order , for I take them to be , until better informed , perfect myths .
