Leaver having given notice to relinquish the care of the Lodgo premises , the matter was referred to the permanent Committee to consider and report thereon . Tho Treasurer wished to havo tho opinion of the Lodgo as to the time the contributions were to bo paid up to . The question arose from a brother resigning membership at the April

Lodge ; he considered that having paid np to the previous October , he was clear of liability ; he did not resign till after the notice of the April Lodge had been received by him , and therefore tho Treasurer conceived that ho was liable for tho current half year , as his former payment only cleared him to Christmas . This was also referred to the permanent Committee . After the usual ceremonies , the Lodge was closed , and adjourned to the third Tuesday in November .

R Yarborongh Lodge of Instruction , No . 554 . — The regular meeting of this Lodgo was hold at Bro . A . Walter ' s , Green Dragon , Stepney , on the 2 nd inst . Bro . E . W . Walter ( S . W . Mother Lodge ) presided . Bros . J . Taylor S . W ., Harvey J . W ., Lax S . D ., Barnes J . D ., Hawes I . G ., J . J . Berry P . M . Preceptor , W . Cross Hon . Sec , Stephens , & c . Lodge was opened in due form , and the

ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Cross candidate , deaconed by Bro . P . M . Barnes . The fourth and fifth sections of the lecture were then worked by Bro . J . Taylor . Bro . Taylor was unanimously elected W . M . for the meeting on the 9 th inst ., and Lodge was closed , the brethren having passed a pleasant and instructive evening in their comfortable quarters .

' High Cross Lodge , No . 754 . —The regular meeting of the above took place , at the Seven Sisters' Hotel , Tottenham , on Wednesday , 27 th October . Present—Bros . Henry V . Clements W . Jones , Dance , Stephens , & c Amongst the Visitors were Bro ? . K . Harris and Palmer . The Lodge having been duly opened in the nsual form and the minutes of last meeting read and confirmed , the Lodge was advanced , and the W . M . conferred the second degree upon Bro . J . D . Birkin . On resuming , Mr . Percy Gilling ( who had been previously balloted for ) was initiated into the mysteries of

the Craft , and Bro . William Palmer , of the Pattison Lodge , No . 913 , was unanimously elected a joining member . Other bnsiness of a minor character being disposed of , the Lodge was closed in ancient form , and the brethren adjourned for refreshment , which was presided over by the W . M ., who , on removal of the cloth , gave the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . To tbe health of the Initiate Bro .

Gilling expressed his grateful thanks for the kind manner in which he had been received into Freemasonry that evening , and hoped to prove himself a worthy Mason amongst them , and in dne time merit the honour they had done him . The health of the W . M . and thafc of the P . M . 's having been respectively given and replied to , Bro . Kennett Harris , of tho Temple Bar Lodge , No . 1728 , on behalf

of the Visitors , said it was the first time he had had the good fortune to visit this Lodge , but he could not be looked npon as a stranger , for most of the faces he saw around him were so familiar that ; be felt as much at home as he did in his own Lodge . It had been his privilege to visit many Lodges , but he could safely say , and with all

sincerity , that he never saw the work done so well ; the ceremonies as rendered by tho W . M . that evening were of a character that conld not fail to keep up tho prestige of Freemasonry . Other toasts followed , and after spending a very pleasant evening , the brethren separated at a reasonable hour .

Royal Alfred Lodge of Instruction , No . 780 .-A goodly number of the brethren assembled at tho Star and Garter , Kew Bridge , on Friday evening , 29 th October , to greet the W . Gomm I . P . M . & c , & c . Lodge was regularly formed and opened , and the minutes of last meeting were read , confirmed and signed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed . Three brethren ( candidates for advancement ) answered the usual questions leading to the second degree , and retired . Lodge was advanced to the second degree , and Bro . Wotton acting as candidate the ceremony of passing

was rehearsed . Lodge was advanced to the third degree ; Bro . Maton kindly represented the candidate , and tho ceremony of raising was rehearsed . Lodge was then resumed to the first degree . Bros . meeting , and he appointed his officers . Bro . Secretary announced that the invitations for the Annual Banquet , tc be held on tho 19 th November , would be in tho hands of tho members in the course of a few hours . Lodge was then closed , and amid hearty congratulations to the W . M . for the very instructive evening , the meeting was adjourned , till 5 th November , afc half-past seven .

lecture and dissertation on Freemasonry in general , and in Germany in particular , which was listened to with great attention . Afc the conclusion Bro . Sigismnnd was warmly congratulated by the brethren and visitors . The W . M . proposed that the best thanks of the brethren be given to Bro . Sigismnnd for his interesting lecture , and that this compliment be recorded on the minntes ; this was seconded

by Brother J . Lazarus P . M ., and earned unanimously . Brother E . E . Wendt said he felt pleased with the interesting leofcnre given by Bro . Sigismnnd . Bro . Wendt likewise made some allusion to the three Grand Lodges in Germany , in regard to tbe admission and non-admission of members of the Hebrew faith ; he hoped this vexed question would eventually be settled harmoniously . Bro . L . Jacobs

Treas . also spoke on the subject ; the agitation had originated in this Lodge , but no good had as yet resulted . Acceptance of resignation of a P . M . was deferred ; it had previously been resolved that a testimonial be engrossed on vellum , and presented to him for the valuable services rendered by him to the Lodge , and in token of the high regard and esteem in which he is held by every brother . A proposition was

handed in for initiation , and a distressed brother was relieved from the funds of the Lodge , which was then closed . The brethen sat down to a very excellent banquet , provided by Bro . Nicols , thafc gavo great satisfaction . The W . M . genially presided , and proposed the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Bro . E . P . Albert P . G . P . returned thanks for the Grand Officers . Bro . Frank Elmoro delighted the

brethren with one of his excellent songs ; he was accompanied by Bro . Davis . Bro . J . Lazarus I . P . M . then rose ; it was with pleasure ho had to propose the toast of tbe W . M . Ib was a source of regret that the W . M . had had no opportunity of showing his ability in Masonic working ; however , during his year of office he had shown he was the right man in the right place . After a song by Bro .

Dr . Chandler , the W . M . replied to the toast ; he felt flattered by the kind words of Bro . Lazarus , and regretted he had no work that evening ; however , he had done work , and would do it again if required . It was his firm conviction that no brother ought to go into the chair without he could work the three degrees , so that on leaving tho chair ho might carry with him the good wishes of the

members of the Lodge . After Bro . Davis had played a selection on the piano , the W . M . proposed tho toast of tho Visitors , and Bros . M . Alexander P . M . 188 and H . M . Levy P . M . 188 severally responded . The toast of the P . M . ' s came next in order ; they wero a credit to any Lodge , and to them the W . M . was indebted for his position in Freemasonry . Hero Bro . Silvester sang one of his

humorous songs , and created roars of laughter . Bro . J . Lazarus I . P . M . responded to tho toast . The Treasurer and Secretary Brcs . Jacobs and E . P . Albert were next complimented , and then tho W . M . called on the brethren to honour the Wardens and other Officers . Those toasts having been acknowledged , tho W . M . said thoy conld not part without proposing the health of Sir Moses Montefiore , who had

now reached his 96 th year . This Lodge was named after that respected Brother , and he hoped they would drink the toast with all the honours due to it . Tho W . M . then proposed fcho toast of the Press , for which Bro . IT . M . Levy responded for the FKEEMASOX ' S CHKONICLH , and Bro . A . Myers for the Jewish Chronicle . The Tyler's toast was then given , aud the brethren separated .
