A CONVOCATION was held at the Middleton Hotel on Wednesday evening , 19 th ult ., when those present included Comps . Bridtrland M . E . Z ., Phillips Scribe E . acting H ., Dawson J ., Lucking P . Z . Treasurer , Barrett , Lusty , and Martin Janitor . Bros . Trisfc and Harrington were balloted for and unanimously elected members of the Chapter .

ATHOLE CHAPTER , No . 1004 .

AT the annual meeting , held at Douglas , Isle of Man , on Thursday , the 20 th ult ., the following were elected Officers for the ensuing year : —Comps . Swinnerton 1 st Principal , Dearden 2 nd Principal , Kermode 3 rd Principal , Heron P . Z . Dir . of Cers ., Brown P . Z . Treasurer , Morris P . S ., Challender S . E ., Spencer S . N ., and Lanaghan

Janitor . The installation will take place in November . A vote of sympathy with Comp . Brown , on his recent domestic bereavement , was passed . A P . Z . ' s jewel was presented to Comp . Brearley P . Z ., and two candidates were proposed for exaltation .

amounting to £ 39 in all , and the finances of the Prov . Grand Lodge were now on a satisfactory footing . The P . G . Secretary ( Bro . W . H . Spaull ) reported that he had received a letter from Bro . Hedges , the Secretary to the

Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , saying how very sorry he was at being unable to attend this meeting , and expressing his warmest thanks for the liberal support of this Province , and particularly of the Provincial Grand Master , on

the occasion of the recent Centenary Festival of the Institution he represented , enhanced as it was by the remembrance of the splendid manner in which the brethren came forward on the preceding year , when Sir OffleyfWakeman honoured

the Institution by presiding at the Festival . In connection with this matter Bro . W . H . Spaull the P . G . Secretary remarked that in 1887 the Province sent up to the three Royal Masonic Charities in London the sum of £ 1054 , and

during this year they had already sent up £ 806 . The report of the children in the Institutions from this Province as to conduct and progress was highly satisfactory . Sir Offley Wakeman now said he had a very pleasant duty to

perform . H . R . H . the Most Worshipful Grand Master had honoured one who for many years had worked amongst them for the welfare of Masonry , by appointing him to office in the Grand Lodge of England . He referred to their

Provincial Grand Secretary , Bro . W . H . Spaull , and he felt that it was not only an honour conferred on Bro . Spaull , but through him on the Province . A number of the brethren had thought this a fitting opportunity to show

their appreciation of Bro . Spaull ' s services by presenting him with the clothing for the office he held in Grand Lodge , aud for the position to which it pleased H . R . H . to appoint him in Grand Chapter . He had much pleasure in handing

to Bro . Spaull the receipt for the fee of honour on his appointment , and the paraphernalia for the offices to which he had been appointed . Bro . Spaull , in a few suitable words , expressed his sincere thanks to the brethren for

their kind appreciation of his services in the Province , and said when he wore the clothing it would remind him of the many happy meetings they had had , and he hoped in the

future , as in the past , his conduct would be such as to merit their approval . The Provincial Grand Lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to a banquet at the Tontine Hotel .

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF WARWICKSHIRE .

HPHE annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of ¦ *• Warwickshire was held on the 1 st inst ., at Coventry .

St . Michael ' s Lodge , No . 1630 , was opened at St . Mary ' s Hall by the W . M . Dr . Charles Davidson . The Provincial Grand Master ( the Right Hon . Lord Leigh ) , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . James T . Collins ) , and the

Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge were then received , and tho Provincial Grand Master having taken his seat on the throne , the Provincial Grand Lodge was opened . The usual Lodge business having been transacted , the Prov .

Grand Master appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing year . Lodge adjourned for Divine service at Holy Trinity Church , the brethren walking in procession through the streets , clad in full Masonic Craft clothing .

Choral service was sustained by the choir , Mr . A . Hanson being the organist . The Rev . T . W . Downing intoned the prayers , Bro . the Rev . Thurston Rivington , Past Provincial Grand Chaplain , vicar of St . Nicholas , Warwick , read the

lessons , and a sermon was preached by Bro . the Rev . Bridgtnau Boughton Leigh Past Provincial Grand Chaplain , from the words " What doestthou here , Elijah ? " ( 1 Kings

xix . 13 ) , in the course of which he made an earnest appeal on behalf of the Masonic Charities . The choir sang Dr . Boyce's anthem , " O , where is wisdom found ? " and a collection was taken on behalf of the Warwickshire Masonic

Benevolent and Pupils Aid Fund , realising £ 12 17 s 6 d . Blessing was pronounced by Bro . the Rev . F . M . Beaumont , vicar of Holy Trinity , Coventry , and rural dean , Past Provincial Grand Chaplain . The brethren then returned

in procession to St . Mary ' s Hall , where Lodge was closed in due form . A banquet was afterwards held at the Queen ' s Hotel , the Provincial Grand Master ( Lord Leigh ) in the chair , covers being laid for upwards of fifty .

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF WEST LANCASHIRE .

SOUTHPORT was this year chosen as the meeting place of the Provincial Grand Lodge of West Lancashire , of which Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Latham D . G . M . is the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master , aud the gathering on the 3 rd inst ., nob only gave emphatic and

conclusive proof of the progress of the Craft in the division , but also clearly indicated that Masonry in the favourite watering-place is as full of vigorous life as ever . The arrangements made for the reception of the brethren ,
