PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF NORTH AND EAST YORKSHIRE .
ON the 27 th ult ., the Provincial Grand Lodge and General Communication of Masons of the Province of the North and East Ridings of Yorkshire was held , on the invitation of the North York Lodge , No . 602 , in the Town Hall , Middlesbrough , and was attended with great success . Every possible preparation had been made b y the
brethren of the North York Lodge to secure the comfort and convenience of the visiting brethren , and the Town Hall in which the Provincial Grand Lodge was held was ¦ well adapted for the purpose , there being plenty of room . The large hall in which the Lodge was held was splendidly
decorated for the occasion with palms , evergreens , and flowers , while national and other flags and floral emblems were neatly interspersed over the hall . Prior to the Lodge the Board of Benevolence met in the ante-room at the east-end , and voted £ 95 for the relief of aged and
distressed Masons of the Province . There was a very large gathering of brethren , all the Lodges in the Province being well represented . The brethren having donned Masonic clothing and signed their names were directed to their seats by the Stewards in the Lodge-room ,
where they awaited the approach of the Provincial Grand Officers . Owing to Viceregal duties in Ireland , his Excellency the Earl of Zetland , G . M . of tho M . I . Order of St . Patrick and Provincial Grand Master , was unable to be present , but the business of the Lodge was ably
conducted by Lieut .-Ool . the Hon . W . Orde-Powlett P . G . W . of England aud Deputy Provincial Grand Master . On the approach of the acting Prov . Grand Master , the brethren rose and remained standing until the Provincial
G . Lodge was opened , when they greeted the acting Prov . Grand Master and his Deput y with grand honours . On the motion of Bro . J . W . Woodall , fche minutes of the last Grand Lodge , held at Thirsk , and of the special Provincial Grand Lodge were unanimously confirmed .
The accounts of the Prov . Grand Lodge for the past year were read , and showed a goodly balance in hand . They were unanimously adopted , on the motion of Bro . Woodall . The result of the Board of Benevolence meeting was read by Bro . Peck , as was a statement showing the
condition of the Board of Education fund , which was read by Bro . W . Reynolds , the Provincial Grand Treasurer . Bro . Woodall moved that the report bo received and adopted . They had all heard that their funds were in a fairly prosperous and profitable condition , and he was glad
to think that their income from tho charit y fund was sufficient from tho subscriptions of the various Lodges without any special appeal being made to them . At the same time he pointed out that this good work was
particularly worthy of their support , and he trusted that many who knew the great advantages of a good education would see that tho work which was going on was one which they could conscientiousl y place before their brethren .
Brother Todd , seconded the adoption of tho report , and congratulated the members of the Lodge upon its satisfactory nature . There was also causo for congratulation on the fact that the subscri ptions had come in so well from the different Lodges .
The report was put and . carried unanimously . Bro . W . H . Cowper then presented tho report of tho Charities and alluded to tho fact that during the past year their Province had been successful in getting two boys admitted into their Masonic School . He had had to
borrow a large number of votes to carry the election , but he hoped at the end of the present year to be able to repay them . He referred to the fact that the Province had given £ 696 9 s lOd in contributions to the Charity Schools . He moved the adoption of the report , which Bro . Palkinbridge seconded , and it was carried .
Bro . Todd moved the re-election of Bro . Walter Reynolds as Provincial Grand Treasurer . Bro . W . H . Cowper seconded , and it was carried . On the motion of Bro . Geo . J . Robinson , seconded by Bro . Beavers , Bros . Woodall and Tessyman were re-elected the representatives of the Provincial Grand Lodge ; while ,
on the motion of Bro . Foley , Brothers Fullerton and Whiteside were re-elected auditors . Brothers Woodall , Whitehead , Watson , Sykes , Rymer , and Tozes were then reelected a Committee of General Purposes . Bro . McLeod , from the Royal Masonic Institution for

Boys , addressed the brethren , and pointed out that during tbe past two years the generosity of the Craft had been exemplified in a most remarkable way , and he hoped that increased support would be given to the School to enable the children of Freemasons to receive a good education .
The reports were then handed in from the various Lodges in the Province , and showed that Freemasonry was largely on the increase in the North and East Ridings . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master appointed and invested the Provincial Grand Officers for the ensuing year ,

Bro . Todd said thafc the late Bro . Holland , who was Prov . Grand Treasurer of the Lodge , had left tho old Treasurer ' s book with the York Lodge , and thoy had passed a resolution that ifc should be handed over to the
Provincial Grand Lodge , to whom it belonged . The W . M . of the York Lodge said he intended to have handed the book over , but he had come and forgotten it , but would do so at an early date .
The Deputy Provincial Grand Master said he only wished the Provincial Grand Master had been present to have seen the hearty welcome the Provincial Grand Lodge had received from the brethren of the North York Lodge ,
Middlesbrough . He read both a letter and a telegram from his Excellency the Earl of Zetland , expressive of the regret that nobleman felt at being unable to be present . He ( the Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett ) believed that since Lord Zetland had been in Ireland that occasion was the first time he had
been unable to be present with them and preside over their meetings . Since the Provincial Grand Lodge had visited Middlesbrough , nine years ago , he noticed that Freemasonry had steadily increased until now they had three flourishing Lodges in the Borough . Ho then feelingly alluded to the
death of H . R . H . Bro . the Duko of Clarence , and to the decease of Bros . W . J . Taylor , A . T . Rogers , and other prominent Freemasons , after which he said that although they had had no festival this year , yet ho was pleased to see that their charities had been well supported . In
conclusion he said that invitations had been received from the Old Globe , Scarborough , the Constitutional Lodge , Beverley , and tho St . Germaine Lodge , for the next Provincial Lodgo meeting to bc held . He would take the
earliest opportunity of handing them over to Lord Zetland , who would decide where it was to be held . He thanked the brethren for having listened to him , and also the North York Lodge for the magnificent arrangements they had made .
A vote of congratulation having been passed to the Earl of Zetland on the marriage of his daughter , Lady Hilda Dundas , to Lord Southampton , the vote was , on the motion of Bro . Woodall , ordered to be illuminated . The hymn " Hail Masonry Divine" was sung , Bro .
Shepherd singing the solo in splendid style , after which the Lodge was closed in due form and with solemn prayer . A banquet was held in the Crypt beneath the Town Hall , which was attended by over 120 of the brethren . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master presided , and
gave the toast of the Queen and the Craft . A special setting of the National Anthem by Bro . Peck was sung , Bro . Lansdale singing the solo . The Chairman then gave
the Prince of Wales Most Worshipful Grand Master , which was loyally honoured , and a new ode , " God bless our future Monarch , " was heartily sung . The other toasts were the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , the Right Hon . the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , and His
