for , bnt was absent throngh a domestic bereavement . Bros . Come and Levy were passed to tho second degree , and Bros . Danziger and Harris were raised . The ceremonies were excellently worked by the W . M . and Officers . Lodge was then closed , and the brethren separated .

GROVE LODGE , No . 410 . THE installation meeting of this flourishing Lodge , with one exception the oldest in the Province of Surrey , was h » ld at the Sun Hotel , Kingston , on Saturday last , the 30 th ultimo . Tho attendance nf tho members and V s ! tnrg though larcre and satisfactory was limited , and affected by the fact that the Provincial Grand

Chapter of Surrey was being held at the same time , under the auspices of General Brownrigg tho Provincial Grand Superintendent , at Chertsey , where man y members of the Grove Lodge in office were necessarily compelled to be present . Some members of the Lodgo were , however , enabled to leave Chertsey in time to arrive at

Kingston for tbe installation ce' emmiT , previous to which the W . M . Bro . H . C . Tepps bad vacated the chair in order to allow Bro . H . P . Dumas P . M ., Past Grand Deacon of England , to initiate his son Mr . H . F . Dnmas , after which Bro . Tepps proceeded with the business , which included the passing nf Bro . Portpr , and the installation of his

successor in the chair of the Lodge , Bro . Thomas Mnreton . The working was up to the usual excellont standard of tbe Grove Lodge , the Deacons proving themselves especially competent . A P . M . ' s jewel was voted to Bro . H . C . Tepps for his exceptionally brilliant

services in tbe chair as W . M . All business being ended , the brethren and Visitors adjourned to an excellent banquet , after which the newly initiated brother was duly honoured , and the E . A . song was capitally rendered .

P . M . Stwd ., Thnmas Tyler . The reception accorded tbe new Officers evidenced the fact that the W . M . had made a good selection . Hearty good wishes wpre now given by the Visitors , and Lofb'e was closed until the fourth Thursday in October . The brethren , 57 in number , adjourned to the Great , Eaatern Hotel , where a sumptuous and

recherche banqnet was provided by Bro . Bolton . The tables were beantifully decorated , bntton-boles being provided for all . The W . M ., who gpn ' ally prpsided , proposed in appropriate terms the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . He wonld not indulge in long speeches , and he hoped every toast would meet with a warm

response . Bro . Hallows rose ; he had to propose the toast of tbe eveningr—the health of the Worshipfnl Master . They were fortunate m having a brother to preside over them who could do all the work ; he bad had tbe pb'asnre of installing Bro . Edwards in the chair ; he was one who would carry out every dnty required of him . The

W . M ., in reply , thanked Bro . Hallows for his kind remarks . Nothing should be wanting on his part to give them satisfaction . Ihe Lodge was in a state of prosperity , and long might it so continue . In speaking to . the toast of the I . P . M ., the W . M . said that no better worker than Bro . Hallows could be found . All present

could not but notice the able manner in which he had conducted the installation ceremony . Their I . P . M . had not only gained the esteem oi all in the Lodge , but also of those with whom he was associated in Pf vate life . He ( the H . It would ever be recognised as a token of brotherly love , from the members of his Lodge . To tbe toast of tbe Visitors Bros . Roberts , Bathard , Solomon , and Paterson replied .

In proposing the toast of the T ~ ast Masters , the W . M . mentioned their names seriatim , and said how proad he felt to be so well snpported . They were all pleased to see Bro . Parkes again among them , after his severe accident , and he trusted when they met again to see him entirely recovered . Bros . Leach and Hart , in very excellent terms ,

responded to tho toast . The Treasurer and Secretary were next complimented , the W . M . giving them a just meed of praise . The toast was responded to by Bros . Legg Treasurer and Preston Seoretirv . The toast of the Wardens and Officers was next given and re .

sponded to , and the Tyler concluded a very agreeable and harmonious evening . The W . M . provided a very excellent programme of music , under the direction of Bro . H . Scharfcau , who was assisted by Bros . E . Dalzell , E . Moss , and R . De Lacy .

THE installation and annual festival of the Arnold Lodge , No . 1799 , took place on Wednesday evening , the . 27 th May , in the PnbHo Hall , Walton-on . the-N'ze , which had b en spe . eially engaged and prepared , and a goodly number of the brethren attended , including several P . P . G . Officers , P . M . ' s , and othpr distinguished visitors . Amongst them were Bro . Alfred Welch P . M .

Charles Hempson was unanimously appointed to represent the Lodge upon the Essex Provincial Charity Committee . A banquet was afterwards partaken of , at ihe Portobello Hotel , and the remainder of the evening was passed in a very pleasant manner .

Angel Lodge , No . 51 . —At the monthly meeting of this Lodge on Thursday , 28 th nlfc , Bro . Joseph Grimes S . W . was unanimously elected W . M . for tbe ensuing year . At the same meeting Bro . Lewig P . M . P . P . G . D . was re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . Munson Tyler .

Koyal Alfred Lodge of Instruction , Wo . 780 . —A meeting was held on Friday , the 29 th tilt ,., at the Star and Garter Kow Bridge . Bros . Bailey W . M ., Norton S . W ., Turner J . W ., Andrews ( Preceptor ) S . D .. C . E . Botley J . D ., Thomas Inner Guard , F . Bot'ov , & e . After preliminaries , the ceremony of initiation was

rehearsed , Bro . F . Botley candidate . Bro . C . E . Botley answered the questions leading to the second degree , and w ? ig entrusted . Lodge was opened in the second , and the cerpmonv rebf" ; ra d . Lodce was opened in the third , and closed in the third and second degrees . Bro . Norton was elected W . M . for next meeting .

It is worthy of record that during the Healtheries Exhibition , when so many thousands visited the building at South Kensington , there wns not a single complaint recorded figainst the police . The courtesy they have always displayed is fully recognised ; we hear this is mainly due to Bro . Superintendent Hamhlin , of the Abbey Lodge , who brings to bear on his duties a calm deliberation that produces the most satisfactory results .

An Emergency Meeting of the Maybury Lodge will be held on the 11 th instant , at the Inns of Court Hotel , at half-past five , to pass a vote of condolence to the

sorrowing widow and children of the late respected Bro . C . W . Thompson P . M . Bro . Thompson was initiated in this Lnclse , and was Master for two successive years ; he fulfilled his duties with great credit and ability .
