THE Provincial Grand Mark Master having accepted the invitation given to hold the annual meeting of his

Provincial Lodge under the banner of the Porchester , m Newbury , during the summer , Bro . C . E . Keyser W . M . of that Lodge has signified his intention to invite the whole of the Brethren to Aldermasfcon Park , saying it will afford him much pleasure to entertain them at dinner . Bro . Keyser ' s suggestion
was mentioned at the recent meeting of his Lodge , and was very naturally fully approved by the Brethren , who , on the motion of Bro . Cosburn P . M ., seconded by Bro . Knight P . M ., passed a hearty vote of thanks to their Worshipful Master for his most liberal offer .
PORCHESTER LODGE , No . 27 . THE Brethren assembled in Lodge at the Temperance Hall , Newbury , on Thursday , 15 th ult ., under tho presidency of Bro . C . E . Keyser Worshipful Master . The principal business was the election of W . M ., and the choice of the Brethren unanimously fell upon tho Senior Warden Bro . E . Hill , who was prevented attending through illness .
GORDON LODGE , No . 364 . A MEETING took place on Tuesday , 2 nd inst ., at the New Falcon Hotel , Gravesend . Bro . J . Percy White W . M . presided , being supported by his Officers and a good attendance of Brethren . Bro . James Kearney M . M . of the Engineer Lodge , No . 2599 , having been approved , was advanced to the degree of Mark Master by tho W . M .
This being the election meeting the Lodge proceeded to take the votes of the Brethren , with the result that Bro . William Russell P . M . P . Z . Provincial Grand Treasurer of Kent was elected as W . M ., Bro . Frederick Mitchell Treasurer , and George Martin Tyler . Bros . J . Davis and J . A . Axcell -were appointed Auditors .
Bro . White proposed , and Bro . Russell seconded , that the Lodge sanction and recommend the formation of a Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners , to be held under its Warrant . This was carried unanimously . Bro W . Barlow , Secretary , proposed , and Bro . Russell seconded , that
the Provincial Grand Master be requested to honour the Lodge by accepting the honorary membership . This was also agreed to . There being no further business the W . M . received the good wishes of the Brethren and the Lodge was closed .
The twelfth annual North London Masonic ball took place on Thursday of last week , at Freemasons' Tavern , and was equally as successful as any of the very satisfactory gatherings of the past . A lengthy programme was gone through , to the enlivening strains of Bro . Hiram Henton ' s band . Supper was
served at 1 a . m . in the Crown , Sussex , and Glee rooms , Bro . Herbert Sprake the President occupying the chair in the former , and Bros . H . E * Sanders and Alfred Humphreys in the other two . After the Loyal toast Bro . Sprake gave that of the Masonic Charities . He said it was unnecessary for him to explain to
them the amount of money which was required to support the Institutions which comprised the Masonic Charities—he believed it was something like £ 50 , 000 per annum—but he reminded them that there were some hundreds of boys and girls and old people benefited every year by the subscriptions which were
given by members of the Craft . He knew those gentlemen who were not Brethren , and those ladies who were not likely to become sisters , would excuse him and his Brethren for showing unusual energy and zeal on behalf of those Institutions . With Masons , and with those who organised the ball , the charities
reigned supreme in their thoughts , and those chanties were second to none in England . That was saying much in the most philanthropic country in fche world . It was a satisfaction to
everyone present to know that by patronising that ball they were aiding the charities to which he had referred . Other toasts followed and then dancing was resumed until half-past four o ' clock .
The Woodgrange Lodge is to be congratulated on the success attending their third annual ball at the Town Hall , Stratford , on Wednesday , 27 th ult . Without disparaging any previous event , says the " West Ham Guardian , " the gathering was one of the most brilliant of the present season , combining ,
as an American writer aptly put ifc , " good music , fair women , and good management , with just a soupgon of merriment to obviate dull moments . " The gathering included many of the
leading people of the district , notably the Grand Chaplain the Ven . Archdeacon Stevens ; Mr . Ernest Gray , M . P ., and Mrs . Gray ; the candidate for the Eomford division , Mr . Louis Sinclair ; the Mayor , Aid . Govier , & c .
The annual Masonic ball at St , Helens ( Lanes . ) , which last year showed a surplus of £ 55 in aid of fche Masonic Charifciee , was held on the 28 th ulfc ., wifch great success , there being about 230 persons present . It is hoped the result will equal , if it does not exceed , that of last year , as it is proposed to spend the surplus in the same good cause as then .
