appoint a committee as required by Bye-Law , No . 14 , viz ., " A committee shall be annually appointed on tho day of the annual Festival , consisting of tho W . M . and his Wardens , tho Secretary , and three Past Masters , for the purpose of making all necessary inquiries respecting any candidato for admission who may bo unknown to a majority of tho brethron , and their report to bo made to the Lodge

Cornwall Masonic Annuity and Benevolent Fund ; also appointed to receive subscriptions for the Boys' and Girls' Schools . After the Lodge was closed , the brethren adjourned to the White Hart Hotel , where a banquot was served by Miss Olver . Bro . Mudge proposed the health of the Provincial Grand Master , the Earl of Mount Edgcninbe , in an exceedingly happy manner , and it wns

enthusiastically received , as was also the toast of the Health of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Reginald Eogers , proposed by Bro . West . The W . M ., in the course of replying to the toast of his health , pointed out what Freemasonry was , and what it was not , and exhorted the members of the Lodge to maintain tho honour and

reputation of the Craft unsullied , especially asking them to use the utmost caution in introducing new members , as he did not want to make a large number in his year of office , preferring that tho candidates should be good men , and true ; members should see that the candidates' character , wery such that the brethren would be pleased to have them filling the highest offices in the Lodge .

Lodge of TJnity , No . 613 , Southport . —The annual meoting of this large and flourishing Lodge was hold at the Masonio Hall , on St . John ' s Day , when an unusually large number of members and visitors assembled . Tho Chair was occupied by the W . M ., Bro . Cory , assisted by his officers . After the confirmation of the minutes , the Lodge was opened in the 2 nd degree , when Bro . John Bowes P . M .,

Prov . G . J . W . Cumberland and Westmoreland , was invited to take the chair as installing Master . The W . M . elect , Bro . George Bailey , presented by Bro . Cory , was installod in ample form . Bro . Bowes delivered the address to the W . M ., Wardens and brethren . Tho whole ceremony was rendered in a manner that elicited the warm approval of all presont . The Lodge having been closed down , a gold

P . M . 's jewol was presented by tho Lodge to the I . P . M ., Bro . Cory , for his efficient services during the past year . A vote of thanks was recorded on the minutes to the installing Master . The banquet was Eerved at the Scarisbrick Hotel , in Bro . Watson ' s best style . The ohair was occupied by the newly installed W . M ., who was supported

by Bros . Bowes , Henry Poynter P . M ., Prov . G . Eeg . Berks and Bucks , D . W . Finney P . M . P . Z ., & c , Cory I . P . M ., Eoberts P . M . Prov . G . D . of C , and about fifty other brethren . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Some excellent music , rendered by an amateur string band , composed of members of the Southport Lodges , enlivened the after dinner proceedings .

"William Preston Lodge of Instruction , No . 766 — This Lodge held its meeting on Friday , the 30 th of December , at the Feathers Tavern , Upper George-street , Edgware-road . Present—Bros . G . W . West W . M ., George Tribbel S . W ., John Murch J . W ., Aug . Braun Secretary , S . Kennard Treasurer , Evans S . D ., J . Davison J . D ., H . Cooper I . G . Past Master Bro . Eudderforth Preceptor .

Visitors—Bros . Nichols , Captain Boniface , Cleghorn , Coates . The Lodge was opened in due form . The minutes of the last meeting were road and confirmed . The W . M . ably rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Coates acting as candidate . Bro . Coates then answered the questions for passing , as did also Bro . Evans . Bro . Endderforth worked the first and fourth Sections . Bro . Cleghorn , of

Iso . 1287 , was unanimously elected a member . Bro . Tribbel was chosen W . M . for the ensuing meeting . The Preceptor , Bro . W . H . G . Eudderforth , then proposed that this Lodgo of Instruction should become an annual subscriber to the FBEEJIASON ' S ^ C NICLE . This was dnVy seconded and carried unanimously . Bro . Eudderforth

dwelt with considerable eloquence upon this subject , intimating it was not only interesting but also necessary for every brother to make himself acquainted with what passes in the Masonic world ; he trusted that other Ledges who did not alread y subscribe would follow suit . Tho Lodge was then closed .

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction No . 860 . —A meeting was held at Bro . Allen ' s , Eoyal Edward , Triangle , Hackney , on Tnes .

being ended , the Lodgo was closed with solemn prayer , and adjourned till Tuesday , 9 th January . Bro . Worsley , the worthy Secretary , has siuco informed us that his not being in his place waa not his fault , but that of tho railway company , a breakdown on tho line having occurred , which stopped the trains running to Bethnal Green , thns preventing his reaching the Lodgo dnring the evening .

Royal Albert Chapter , No . 907 . —Tho regular Convocation meeting of this Chapter aud Installation Meetiug took place on tho 27 th Deo ., at tho Whito Hart Tavern , Abchurch-lano . Present—Comps . W . Smeed P . G . T . Middlesex P . Z . 946 , as M . E . Z ., C . Nash H . Tho Chapter was opened , and tho minutes were confirmed . Bros , H . P . Mooro and J . Burne 162 , were exalted into E . A . Masonrv .

Comp . W . Smeed P . Z ., then installed Comps . NashM . E . Z ., Dennis J ., Mitchell S . E . A vote of thanks was unanimously accorded to Comp . Smeed for tho able manner he had installed the Companions in their various offices . Tho Chapter wa 3 then closed , and a banquet was provided . The M . E . Z . gave tho usual loyal and Eoyal Arch toasts and an agreoablo evoning was passed . Comps . W . Smeed P . Z . 946 , and E . Boncoy were present as visitors .

Edgeler iu a very clear and effective maimer . After the ceremony tho brethren adjourned to tho Dolphin Hotel , to a banquet , and a very pleasant evening was spent .

St . Augustine Lodge of Instruction , No . 972 . —This Lodge holds its meetings at tho Guildhall Hotel , Canterbury , every Wednesday evening , with the exception of tho second Wednesday in each month , which are the regular Craft nights . On a recent occasion , the Secretary , Bro . S . F . Pringuer , read a summary of the working during the past year , from which it appears thero were 38 meetings , and an average attendance of 14 . Tho initiation ceremony

was gone through on six occasions , and the charge was given three " times . The passing was rehearsed four times , and the charge given onco . The raising was given twice , and also part of the installation . The lecturo on 1 st Tracing Board was givon three times , and that on the 2 nd twice . Tho whole of the sections of lecturo in 1 st degree and part of 2 nd were worked on various occasions , seven of the brethren taking part in them . The present W . M ., Bro . J . Welsh , is the Instructor , and his deputies aro P . M . ' s Pilcher and Walker .

St . Augustine Lodge of Instruction , No . 972 . —This Lodge holds its meetings at tho Guildhall Hotel , Canterbury , every Wednesday evening , with the exception of tho second Wednesday in each month , which are the regular Craft nights . On a recent occasion , the Secretary , Bro . S . F . Pringuer , read a summary of the working during the past year , from which it appears thero were 38 meetings , and an average attendance of 14 . Tho initiation ceremony

was gone through on six occasions , and the charge was given three " times . The passing was rehearsed four times , and the charge given onco . The raising was given twice , and also part of the installation . The lecturo on 1 st Tracing Board was givon three times , and that on the 2 nd twice . Tho whole of the sections of lecturo in 1 st degree and part of 2 nd were worked on various occasions , seven of the brethren taking part in them . The present W . M ., Bro . J . Welsh , is the Instructor , and his deputies aro P . M . ' s Pilcher and Walker .
