Joppa Chapter , 3 STo . 188 . —A Convocation of this excellent working Chapter was held on Monday last , at tho Albion Tavern , Aldersgatc-strect . Comps . Littaur Z . " , P . Dickinson IL , L . Thoro wore several names on the agenda paper , but Bros . M . Lenzberg and N . II . Benjamin being in attendance , wero duly exalted into E . A . Masonry by the M . E . Z . in his usually impressive manner , ably assisted by the

other Principals and Officers . The Chapter was then closed , and the company eat down to a sumptuous banquet , provided by Comp . W . G . Jennings . The usual Loyal ancl R . A . toasts wero duly honoured , after which tho M . E . Z . proposed the health of tho newly exalted Companions , in doing which ho gavo a beautiful illustration of tho duties of E . A . Masonry , his remarks being listened to with great attention .

Comp . Benjamin responded to tho toast , and said how pleased ho was with the remarks of the M . E . Z . Comp . Lenzsberg followed , briefly and appropriately . Comp . M . J . Emanuel P . Z ., then proposed the health of the Z ., in doing which he said they all know his real worth in every respect , and those who listened to tho manner in which ho performed tho ceremony , not only on this but on every

occasion when ho occupied tho chair , must havo been gratified with the intelligence lie displayed , and tho excellent way in which he discharged his duties . Tho M . E . Z . in reply , thanked tho company , and said although he hacl the interests of the Chapter at heart , ret their kind remarks would bo an incentive to him to work more assiduously for their comfort . Ho promised tbcm that when tho

chair was in his occupation it shonld not lose any of its lustre . The M . E . Z , in proposing tho health of the Visitors , said thoy wore honoured by the presence of two distinguished brethren . Comp . Hogard was well known , not only in Craft Masonry , but also iu tho Eoyal Arch , and as a member of tho Board of General Purposes . Comp . Eckstein was a friend of tho worthy J ., and that was

sufiicieut recommendation . Comp . Hogard , in reply , thanked tho Z . for his kind expressions . Tho Z . had iuitiated him into the Order , and ho was proud to see him in tho chair of this important Chapter . Comp . Eckstein fully endorsed all Bro . Hogard had said , and spoke of tho beautiful ritual so admirably performed by each Officer individually . The M . E . Z .

then proposed tho health of the P . Z . ' s , ancl spoko of tho manner in which each of them had performed his important duties . Comp . E . P . Albert had occupied the chair for two yours , in a very able manner , or ho would not have been rc-electod . Comp . J . Lazarus was a zealous R . A . Mason , and he hud performed the duties of

tho minor offices , which qualified him to fill the chair creditably . Comp . J . Lazarus returned thanks for tho manner in which the toast had been received . Tho health of the It ., J ., Trea ., Sec , P . S ., and Officers was given , and tho Z . gavo the meed of praise due to them fertile excellent , work which they had performed . The Janitor ' s toast was given , and the Comps . separated .

Bradshaw as third Principal of the Chapter , that

appointment havingtobe deferred through his unavoidable absence at the time when tho first and second Principals were installed in thoir present chairs . The Comps . were called upon to salute tho third chief in accordance with ancient custom , which was done ; after which Bros . A . Painter and T . Southern wore exalted to the supreme degree of Holy Royal Arch . Tho labours of tho evening eudcel , the

Comps . adjourned to supper . On tho removal of tho cloth , tho Ex . Chief proposed tho first toast , the Queen , which was followed by that of the Princess of Wales aud the rest of tlio Royal Family . The health of H . R . H . the Princo of Wales , the Sovereign head of the Craft , was cordially drunk , likewise that of tho Pro Grand Principal , and the rulers of R . A . Masonry . Tho Officers of Prov . Grand

Chapter were next honoured . This was supplemented by a Comp . opening tho harmony cf the evening with a song . Ex . Comp . Clay rose to propose a toast which was always acceptable to the Comps . of the Caledonian Chapter . He had more than ordinary pleasure in proposing tho health of the newly-exalted Companions , as iu Comp . Painter ho recognised a son of a very old friend . He felt hi ghly

gratified to welcome him to the Chapter , and trusted that the friendship so much appreciated and so long existing between himself and Comp . Painter ' s father might be extended to the son . He regretted that Comp . Southern had to leave early . Ho called on the Conips . to drink to ihe toast heartily , which was done . Comp . Domville kiudlv favoured with a song , ho was accompanied by Comp . Vetter on the piano . Com ]) . Painter returned thanks for tho honour conferred , and

Companion Bradshaw expressed hia warmest thanks for tho very kind manner in which tho Companions had responded to the toasfc which it had pleased the M . E . Z . to propose in such

complimentary terms . He thanked them also for their sympathy and consideration in the cause which prevented his being present at tho appointed time for investiture , and looked forward to a year which would indicate how delighted ho was with the appointment , aud how truly ho appreciated the honour of the position . To Comp . Marks was entrusted tho duty of proposing tho toast of tho Visiting

Companions . The Chapter was well favoured that evening in tho presence of Comps . Davies , FREEMASON ' S CniiONictK , Godrich ancl Vetter , whose musical abilities were so conducive to their pleasure , nnd Comp . D . A . Davis . He but uttered the feeling of tho Chapter when ho said they wero very delighted with the favour of their com . pany , and trusted all wonld come again . This toast was always

heartily received among Comps ., and ho called upon tho members of tho Caledonian Chapter to honour tbo toast . Comp . Marks favoured tho Companions with a song , and Comps . Godrich , Vetter , D . A . Davis and S . M . Davies returned thanks for the kind fraternal greeting extended to them , and assured tho Companions that they had enjoyed themselves greatly . Before parting Comp . Bradshaw ,

knowing Comp . Davies had been in Canada , enquired very kindly about Ex . Comp . Eev . Vinceut Clomenti , one of the mosb accomplished and zealous Masons in existence , and on being ] told that not long ago Bro . Davies had seen him in tho flourishing town of Peterborough , halo and hearty , Bro . Bradshaw was delighted . So wo meet and so we part .

Macdonald Chapter , No . 1216 . —Tho usual Convocation of this Chapter was hold on Thursday , 20 th ult ., at tho Headquarters of tho 1 st Surrey Eifles , Flodden-road , Camberwell , and was as usual well attended . Tho fittings and furniture of this Chapter are both unique and elegant , and never fail to elicit from Visitors general admiration . Comp . VV . J . Messenger M . E . Z ., Waterall P . Z .

After somo other bnsiness , tho Chapter was closed

in due form , and tho Companions adjourned for refreshment , which was provided by Bro . Kethro , tho caterer to tho corps , and gavo general satisfaction . Tho whole of the customary toasts were not given , for reasons assigned , but that of tho health of tho M . E . Z . was not allowed to be omitted . It was proposed in very appropriate terms , in which tho ability he had displayed in tbe performance of

the ceremony received its duo . share of commendation . The M . E Z . very briefly returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him , and then proposed the health of tho Visitors ; in doing so , ho remarked that he was glad to see present amongst them that evening Com p . Thompson , from whom , when attending the Domutic Lodge of Instruction , ho had received a considerable amount of assistance in

qualifying him for tho duties ho had to perform iu tho Craft . Ho also welcomed amongst them Comps . Stevens and Larlham , of tho Panmure Chapter , and was glad to have the opportunity of proposing their health . Tho toasfc was very cordially drunk by tho Companions . Comp . Stevens returned thanks for the favourable manner in which they had received mention of his name , and expressed the

renewed pleasure he had experienced in being amongst them thafc evening . Comp . Henry Thompson had very great pleasure in visiting the Chapter that evening , for the first time , as he on many occasions had had most gratifying meetings and associations with the members of the 1 st Surrey . In the first place , ho had for many years experienced repeated acts of kindness in meeting

with them " on the tented field" of Wimbledon ; in the next , ho had tho gratification of meeting them in the Macdonald Lodge , and that night his pleasure had been supplemented by meeting them iu the Macdonald Chapter . Their M . E . Z . had been pleased to refer to the services he had rendered him iu the Lodge of Instruction , but he believed Comp . Messenger over-estimated any assistance

he might have rendered ; still as regarded the , Eoyal Arch degree , at any rate , the pupil hacl outstripped the teacher ; and although ho ( Comp . Thompson ) might endeavour to do so , he thought it would be long , indeed , before he should overtake him in the race . Humble , however , as might be his efforts , he would try what he could do , and if ho failed to reach his high standard , he would try to emulate his bright example . Thanking tlio Companions for tho hospitality

they had shown to him , he said his visit to the Macdonald Chapter would remain in his mind as ono of the most agreeable evenings he had ever spent in the company of the 1 st Surreys . Comp . Larlham P . S . also responded ; he had so often been a Visitor there , he almost began to consider that ho was a member of their Chapter , and he should briefly thank them for including his name iu tho toast . Comp . VV . Crauch sang , in exquisite style , " The Thorn , " and other songs .

Metropolitan Chapter of Improvement . —The usual weekly Convocation of this excellent Chapter of Improvement , working under the warrant of the Jtoso of Denmark , No . 075 , was held ou Tuesday evening last , at tho Jamaica Tavern , Cornhill . From the number of talented Eoyal Arch Masous attending this

Chapter , it is eminently fitted to afford correct information to any ¦ Peking preferment in that supreme degree . Tho chairs of M . E . Z ., if ., ancl J . wero respectively lilled by Comps .
