Instruction.

ROYAL ALFRED LODGE , No . 780 . THIS well known , and one of the oldest Lodges of Instruction , held its annual supper , at the Star and Garter Hotel , Kew Bridge , on Thursday , 24 th ult ., when the worthy and highly esteemed Preceptor Brother R . H . Williams P . P . G . J . D . Middx . presided , supported by Bros . Justin Allen a 3 S . W ., and R . W . Robinson as J . W . The Brethren assembled in strong force , and included Bro . C . Coombs W . M . of the Mother Lodge .

The supper was of the choicest character , and reflected the h' ^ best credit on the establishment of which B . o . Capt . Purkiss is the Proprietor . After the cloth had been removed the usual Loyal aud complimentary toasts were duly honoured .

Bro . Coombs , in proposing the health of Bro . R . H . Williams , paid a high compliment to that worthy Brother , and gave it as his opinion that the great success that the Lodge of Instruction had attained was owidg to tho care and attention Bro . Williams paid to every detail in the rendering of the ritual by the Brethren .

Bro . R . H . Williams , in renlying , said it gave him great pleasure to see tho Brethren improving so rapidly under his tuition , and he would do his best , as long as he occupied his present position , to have the ceremonies well rendered .

The next toast given was that of the Treasurer and Secretary . Brother Larkman P . M . Treasurer stated , in replying , how pleased he was to see so many members present , and that he was fully repaid for the trouble he had been put to in-resuscitating the Lodge of Instruction fjom its dormant state to its present high position .

The Secretary Bro . J . H . Cumming P . M . followed , and in a few wellohosen sentences assured the Brethren that the future of the Lodge of Instruction should have his undivided attention , as it had had in the past . Bro . W . Fisher P . P . G . Treas . of Middx . responded on behalf of the Prov . Grand Officers .

Bro . Arthur Williams P . M . 834 , responding to the toast of his health , gave the Brethren a particularly lucid explanation of the inner working of the West London Masonic Election Association , showing the immense importance of the Brethren becoming members of that excellent Institution , whieh is a combination of the West End Brethren to do their best to ensure

the election of any candidate for the three Masonic Charities that they select , after every due enquiry has been made , and to defray the expenses of printing , postages , & c . He mentioned that since the formation of the Association , in 1894 , nearly every case they had taken in hand had been successful .

During the intervals between the speeches and replies several songs and recitations were given in excellent style .

CITY OF LONDON LODGE , No . 901 . ON Tuesday , at 7 o'clock , the members of the Israel Lodge , No . 205 , paid a visit to this Lodge , at the rooms of Bro . Thos . Pearce , the Market House , Brushfield Street , Spitalfields Market , Bishopsgate , when the chair was occupied by the able Preceptor of the Israel , Brother B . DaCosta . ' That Brother was supported by Bros . J . Oxley P . M . I . P . M ., D . Moss P . D . G . S . B .

The work was excellently performed throughout , as will readily be believed by any who know the way in which the Brethren of the Israel Instruction Lodge are capable of conducting the ritual of the Craft . The palm naturally fell to Bro . N . Goldman , who not only took his alloted place in the programme—the fourteenth section—but likewise came forward at a moment's notice to fill tho place of two absentees .

Bro . Oxley P . M . in a truly eloquent manner proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes for the most perfect manner in which Bro . B . DaCosta had fulfilled the duties of the Chair . Bro . DaCosta most sincerely thanked Bro . Otley and the Brethren for their compliment , and said he could not let tho opportunity pass without complimenting the Brethren who had assisted in working the sections .

BROMLEY ST . LEONARD LODGE , No . 1805 . THE annual supper of this Lodge of Instruction was held at the Bow Bells , Bow Road , on Wednesday , 2 nd inst ., Bro . J . DeCasseres P . M . Bro . A . S . Bird W . M . of the Mother Lodge occupied the vice-chair , supported by Bros . G . W . Holmes W . M . of the Leyton Lodge , F . Thornton Secretary , James Young , H . Ample justice having been done to the excellent dinner provided by the genial host Bro . James Gibbs P . M ., the toasts cf the Queen and the M . W . Grand Master were duly honoured , as also were those of the W . M . cf the Bromley St . Leonard Bodge ( Bro . Bird ) , the President of the Instruction Lodge ( Bro . Johnson ) , the Treasurer ( Bro . Jan es Gibbs P . M . ) , the Preceptor ( Bro . J . DeCasseres ) , the Visitors ( coupled with the name of Bro . C . J . R . Tijou ) , and the Past Masters of the Brouley St . Leonard Lodge , all of which were suitably acknowledged .

One of the most pleasing events was a presentation to Bro . Thornton , the zealous Secretary , of a very handsome Liquer Cabinet , with suitable inscription . Bro . Thornton responded in a pithy speech , and his health and that of his wife was drank with much fervour by the assembled Brethren .

The following assisted in the musical part of a very enjoyable evening : Bros . Claude Hamilton , who gave the National Anthem , and ably assisted at the piano ; Frank Thornton , God Bless the Prince of Wales ; G . W . Holmes , Soldiers of the Queen ; James Gibbs , Tha King's Highway ; James Young , Annie Laurie ; J . West , Oh , oh , hear the wind blow ; Goodman , Whisper and I shall hear ; Mr . Johnson jun ., On the Goodwins . Bro . Butcher will take the chair on Wednesday next , 9 th inst .

CHISW 1 CK LODGE , No . 2012 . ON Saturday , 26 th ult ., at the Windsor Castle Hotel , Hammersmith , Bro . J . H . Gumming P . M . the popular Secretary of the Lodge acted as W . M ., with Bros . K . Ross S . W ., H . Bone J . W ., A . Williams P . M . Preceptor , F . Craggs P . M . Treas ., R . Josev P . M . Sec , W . H . Handover S . D ., P . Cronin J . D ., J . Knight I . G ., M . The Lodge was advanced to the third degree and closed down , when the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . H . J . A ballot was taken for the Masonic Charity Association , and resulted in favour of Bro . H . Bono .

Bro . K . Ross was unanimously elected W . M . for next meeting , and Bro . C . Stewart , of tho Royal Alfred Lodge , No . 420 ( Scotch Constitution ) was elected a member , whioh compliment was duly acknowledged .

TERRIERS LODGE , No . 2184 . A VERY good meeting was held on 23 rd ult ., at 3 o ' clock , at the Sir Sidney Smith , Chester Street , Kennuigfcon . u u u WOODROW LODGE ,. . 1708 . THE members of this excellent working Lodge assembled on Monday , at 3 o'clock in the afternoon , at Bro . Budderforth ' s ( Stone ' s ) Restaurant , Panton Street , Haymarket , Bro . H . Wood W . M ., J . M . Klempner S . W ., A . W . Musk J . W ., C . Woodrow P . M . Preceptor , J . W . Simeons Sec , W . West S . D ., E . Wavell P . M . J . D ., H . G . Hyem I . G ., J . E . Culverhouse , H . Rose , G . Detrez , J . W . Ollington , T . Baker , C . Antonelli , O . Bonham P . M ., J . Wynman , and others .

The usual formalities being duly attended to , the W . M . proceeded with the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Culverhouse acting as candidate . The W . M . then kindly vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Klempner S . W ., who opened the Lodge in the second degree , when Bro . Rose offered himself as candidate , answered the usual questions in a most satisfactory manner , was entrusted , and in due course the ceremony of raising was rehearsed .

Bro . J . M . Klempner was unanimously chosen W . M . for next meeting , and Bro . Ollington , of the Peckham Lodge , No . 1475 , was elected a member ,

BROMLEY ST . LEONARD LODGE , No . 1805 . THE annual supper of this Lodge of Instruction was held at the Bow Bells , Bow Road , on Wednesday , 2 nd inst ., Bro . J . DeCasseres P . M . Preceptor being in the chair , supported by Bro . Ben Johnson P . M . President , C . J . R . Tijou P . M . P . A . G . P . Eng ., G . Warne P . M ., G . Fennell P . M ., Boyce P . M ., & c

Bro . A . S . Bird W . M . of the Mother Lodge occupied the vice-chair , supported by Bros . G . W . Holmes W . M . of the Leyton Lodge , F . Thornton Secretary , James Young , H . Soar , Cuthbertson , C . Hamilton ( Pianist of the People's Palace ) . Bros . Flynn , Butcher , Mofiatt , Toole , Silk , Dowdy , Slater , Goodman , Corper , and others were present .

Ample justice having been done to the excellent dinner provided by the genial host Bro . James Gibbs P . M ., the toasts cf the Queen and the M . W . Grand Master were duly honoured , as also were those of the W . M . cf the Bromley St . Leonard Bodge ( Bro . Bird ) , the President of the Instruction Lodge ( Bro . Johnson ) , the Treasurer ( Bro . Jan es Gibbs P . M . ) , the Preceptor ( Bro . J . DeCasseres ) , the Visitors ( coupled with the name of Bro . C . J . R . Tijou ) , and the Past Masters of the Brouley St . Leonard Lodge , all of which were suitably acknowledged .

One of the most pleasing events was a presentation to Bro . Thornton , the zealous Secretary , of a very handsome Liquer Cabinet , with suitable inscription . Bro . Thornton responded in a pithy speech , and his health and that of his wife was drank with much fervour by the assembled Brethren .

The following assisted in the musical part of a very enjoyable evening : Bros . Claude Hamilton , who gave the National Anthem , and ably assisted at the piano ; Frank Thornton , God Bless the Prince of Wales ; G . W . Holmes , Soldiers of the Queen ; James Gibbs , Tha King's Highway ; James Young , Annie Laurie ; J . West , Oh , oh , hear the wind blow ; Goodman , Whisper and I shall hear ; Mr . Johnson jun ., On the Goodwins . Bro . Butcher will take the chair on Wednesday next , 9 th inst .

CHISW 1 CK LODGE , No . 2012 . ON Saturday , 26 th ult ., at the Windsor Castle Hotel , Hammersmith , Bro . J . H . Gumming P . M . the popular Secretary of the Lodge acted as W . M ., with Bros . K . Ross S . W ., H . Bone J . W ., A . Williams P . M . Preceptor , F . Craggs P . M . Treas ., R . Josev P . M . Sec , W . H . Handover S . D ., P . Cronin J . D ., J . Knight I . G ., M . Spiegel P . M . P . G . S . B ., R . H . Williams P . M . P . P . G . J . D ., Kirkham W . M ., Beatiie P . M ., W . ffillier P . M ., Herring , H . J . Cousens , Powell , Ried , and 3 . Wynman .

The Lodge was advanced to the third degree and closed down , when the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . H . J . Cousens being the candidate , and the excellent working of Brother Cumming was fully evidenced on this occasion . A ballot was taken for the Masonic Charity Association , and resulted in favour of Bro . H . Bono .

Bro . K . Ross was unanimously elected W . M . for next meeting , and Bro . C . Stewart , of tho Royal Alfred Lodge , No . 420 ( Scotch Constitution ) was elected a member , whioh compliment was duly acknowledged .

TERRIERS LODGE , No . 2184 . A VERY good meeting was held on 23 rd ult ., at 3 o ' clock , at the Sir Sidney Smith , Chester Street , Kennuigfcon . The chair was occupied by the popular Preceptor Bro . A . Darch , with Bros . B . Cohen as S . W ., Gannon J . W ., C . Wetton W . M . acting Prec , E . Sinclair P . M . Sec , C . West S . D ., Janaway P . M . J . D ., Fowler I . G ., T . Holland , R . Chcnery , K . Martyn , 3 . W . Mark , E . Alrnayo , J . H . Waller , Collins , J . Wynman , and others .
