On Thursday evening last the Lord Mayor elect ( Bro . Alderman Knight ) iu accordance with ancient custom , J ° « tei'tained his brethren of the Court of Aldermen , tlie hi gh flcera of the Corporation , and some private friends , at a banquet vvbieli took place at Haberdashers' Hall .

INSTALLATION MEETINGS , & c .

LODGE OF HOPE , No . 433 . THE Installation Festival of this Lodge took place at Brightlingaea , on 23 rd October . Additional interest had been given to tho occasion from the fact that the W . Bro . P . A . Philbriok , Q . O ., P . G . D ., the D . P . G . M . of the Province under the late Lord Tenterden , had consented to perform tho Installation ceremony , and in order that better accommodation might be given than that afforded by the room in which the Lodgo holds its monthly meetings , the Public

Hall was fitted np for the purpose , and , being hung with a plentiful supply of bunting , looked exceedingly pretty . Great disappoint , ment , therefore , was felt at the receipt of a telegram from Brother Philbrick to the effect that he was confined to the house with rheumatism , and that he greatly regretted he could not get down to Brightlingsea . In this dilemma Wor . Brother the Rev . B . H .

Crate , P . M . 697 , P . P . G . C . kindly undertook the work of the day , and very ably installed tbe W . M . Elect , the Rev . A . Perfcwee ( tbe popular Vicar of Brightlingsea ) , into the chair . The Officers of the year were then appointed and invested as follows : —Bros . R . D . Poppleton I . P . M ., C . Blyth S . H . Crate for his kindness in undertaking , at so short a notice , tbe dnties of I . M ., and the Rev . Brother in response , remarked that while regret , ting the absence of the distinguished Brother who was to hare

installed their W . M ., as well as the cause of it , he had felt much pleasure in undertaking the part , as apart from the f aot that himself and Bro . the Rev . A . Pertwee had enjoyed long and close personal friendship , their W . M . was a Masonic child of his . A vote of thanks was also passed with acclamation to W . Bro . Poppleton for his able conduct of the Lodge business during the past twelve months , bnt

specially for his handsome present of a chequered carpet for the floor of the Lodge , used for the first time that day . Bro . Poppleton returned thanks , and said bo should never forget the kindness that had been shown him by the brethren of the Lodge of Hope , and he shonld always be ready to do anything in his power to assist the Lodgo or individual members of it . The usual Masonio greetings

having been given to the new W . M ., Lodge was closed , and the Brethren adjourned to the Swan Hotel , where a banquet , excellently served by the Hostess , Mrs . Harmer , was partaken of . After dinner the usual toasts were proposed and drunk , and regret was again expressed at the absence of Wor . Bro . Philbrick , and best wishes expressed for his speedy recovery . Bros . C . wero read and confirmed . Lodge was afterwards opened in the second and third degrees , when the J . W . worked the first section of the lecture , the brethren answering the various questions in a satisfactory manner . Bro . Cornock having offered himself a candidate to be raised to the degree of M . M ., the ceremony was ably rehearsed by the W . M . All business being ended , Lodge was closed in ancient form , and adjourned till the 6 th inst ., at 7 . 30 p . m . The remainder of the evening was spent in harmony .

INSTALLATION MEETINGS , & c .

LODGE OF HOPE , No . 433 . THE Installation Festival of this Lodge took place at Brightlingaea , on 23 rd October . Additional interest had been given to tho occasion from the fact that the W . Bro . P . A . Philbriok , Q . O ., P . G . D ., the D . P . G . M . of the Province under the late Lord Tenterden , had consented to perform tho Installation ceremony , and in order that better accommodation might be given than that afforded by the room in which the Lodgo holds its monthly meetings , the Public

Hall was fitted np for the purpose , and , being hung with a plentiful supply of bunting , looked exceedingly pretty . Great disappoint , ment , therefore , was felt at the receipt of a telegram from Brother Philbrick to the effect that he was confined to the house with rheumatism , and that he greatly regretted he could not get down to Brightlingsea . In this dilemma Wor . Brother the Rev . B . H .

Crate , P . M . 697 , P . P . G . C . kindly undertook the work of the day , and very ably installed tbe W . M . Elect , the Rev . A . Perfcwee ( tbe popular Vicar of Brightlingsea ) , into the chair . The Officers of the year were then appointed and invested as follows : —Bros . R . D . Poppleton I . P . M ., C . Blyth S . Brother in response , remarked that while regret , ting the absence of the distinguished Brother who was to hare

installed their W . M ., as well as the cause of it , he had felt much pleasure in undertaking the part , as apart from the f aot that himself and Bro . the Rev . A . Pertwee had enjoyed long and close personal friendship , their W . M . was a Masonic child of his . A vote of thanks was also passed with acclamation to W . Bro . Poppleton for his able conduct of the Lodge business during the past twelve months , bnt

specially for his handsome present of a chequered carpet for the floor of the Lodge , used for the first time that day . Bro . Poppleton returned thanks , and said bo should never forget the kindness that had been shown him by the brethren of the Lodge of Hope , and he shonld always be ready to do anything in his power to assist the Lodgo or individual members of it . having been given to the new W . M ., Lodge was closed , and the Brethren adjourned to the Swan Hotel , where a banquet , excellently served by the Hostess , Mrs . Harmer , was partaken of .
