ST . DUNSTAN'S LODGE , No . 1589 . IT has often been argued thafc the most enjoyable meetings of our Lodges are those whioh mark the close of a Master ' s term of office , when , ifc would seem , a feeling of perfect ; freedom prevails , and any restraint or nervousness on the ruler ' s part is removed with the knowledge that his work is done , and his responsibilities as actual head of the Lodge are virtually at an end . Such was the case afc

the meeting of the St . Dunstan ' s Lodge , hold at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , on Wednesday , 25 th ult ., when Bro . Moore occupied fche ohair for the closing meeting of his year of office , and presided over one of the most enjoyable gatherings ever held in connection with the Lodge . Bro . Moore was supported by his two Wardens , Brothers Innesand Hunter , with Bros . Clemow P . M . Treasurer , Robinson P . M .

Secretary , Walter Wellsman I . P . M ., F . Farrington P . M ., W . Earring , ton P . M . Organist , Buck S . D ., W . H . Wellsman J . D ., Rendelll . G ., W . E . Farrington Dir . of Cers ., Sichel Steward , Gilbert Tyler . There were also present the following visitors : —Bros . Taylor Worshipful Master ' ^ 913 , Phillips Junior Warden 2157 , Gaze Past Master 1768 , Simpson P . M ., W . W . Morgan jun . 177 . The

Lodge having been regularly opened was advanced , and Brothers Peck , Gilbert , and W . von Hafen were raised , after which Mr . F . Sloper , a candidate for initiation , was regularly admitted , the ceremonies [ being faultlessly performed by the Master , who was well supported in the work by the Officers of the Lodge . Bro . Innos , the present Senior Warden , was elected as Master for the ensuing year ,

Bro . Clemow re-elected to the office of Treasurer , and Brother Gilbert to that of Tyler . Bros . Gill and Cobb were appointed to serve on the Audit Committee , and thus the formal bnsiness of the meeting was concluded . Before the closing of the Lodgo Bro . Wellsman , tbe Immediate Past Master , rose . He said he remembered how , two years before , lie had been elected to the chair , and hod

looked around to see whom he mi ght best relv on to support him in the work . Their present Master ( Bro . Moore ) then filled the offioe of Inner Guard , but he recognised him as capable of far better work , and eventually appointed him to the senior post , with results which the members of the Lodge were able to judge of . He had nofc only Allied the duties of Senior Warden with satisfaction , but had

succeeded to the more responsible duties of Master , nnd had won fresh honoursfor himself in that office . Looking back on tho work of tho year , it could truly be said that Brother Moore had carried out the duties most satisfactorily . He had not only performed the work in a splendid manner—a mere machine could repeat the words of the ceremoniesbnt had introduced such a spirit of cordiality and eoodfellowship

into the meetings as to make every one enjoy them . He now had the pleainro of proposing that the best thanks of the Lodge bo tendered to Brother Moore on his retirement , and that a Past Master ' s jewel be presented to him at the next meeting . It was a pleasure to him to make this proposition , bnt at tbe same time a pain , as it marked the end of one of the most successful Masterships known in

connection with the St . Dunstan s Lodge . The proposition was seconded by the Treasurer , and carried unanimously . The business-was then concluded , and the company adjourned to banquet , after which the customary toasts were honoured . Bro . Wellsman proposed the health of the Master , referring to his ( the speaker ' - *) remarks in Lodge , aud saying that Brother Moore hrd fully realised the expectations he hid

formed as to bis capabilities . The best testimonial they could offer him was to tell him he had made the Lodge one of tho happiest in the City of London , aud had done this withont any apparent difficulty on his part . Though he would not again ocenpy the chair at their meetings , except under exceptional circumstances , he would dwell in their hearts as a really good Master , and oue who had made ifc a pleasure to belong to the Lodge . In reply , the Master assure 1 tbem

that his term of office had been a most enjoyable one . It was very difficult to be modest wheu ono heard snch i-omarksas those that had fallen from the Immediate Past Master , and they mnst excuse him if he displayed but little modesty just then . The position he had occupied during the year waa uot without its anxieties , and though he regretted leaving the chair , he did so with an amount of pleasure , feeling that 1 : s letirement would mean the a ivancement of tie other
