Craft , the VV . M . gavo the toast of H . It . II . the Prince « f Wales M . W . G . M ., remarking that every Mason must admit the great interest evinced by their Gran *! Master in all connected with the Graft . He next proposed the 11 . W . the Pro Grand Master , tho Deputy Grand Master , and tho rest of the Grand Officers , expressing his opiaion that all Masses hailed with pleasnro tho

promotion of the Earl of Lathom . In - "iving the toast of the R . W . Provincial Grand Master , Lord Ilonnikcr , and the V . W . Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bev . 0 . J . Martyn , and the Provincial Grand Officer ! Present and Past , the Worshipful Master spoke with regret as to tho Provincial Grand Master ' s inability to bo present that evening . He would uot , however , enlarge upon his lordship ' s

qualifications , becanse every mason in the Province knew how ably he performed his Masonic duties . With regard to the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , he deplored his removal , as a resident , from their midst , pointing out the usefulness of tbe rev . gentleman in connection with charitable objects . Bro . VV . P . T . Phillips , in submitting the toasfc of the evening , the Worshipful Master , Brother Brooke , assured

the brethren that as seconder of Bro . Brooke s initiation into the Craffc he had since watched his career with extreme interest , and fonnd him a thoroughly good Mason in every respect , and he predicted that he wonld ultimately gain the higher ranks of a Prov . Grand Officer . The Worshipfnl Master , in response , acknowledged with grateful thanks the honour conferred upon him by tbe brethren

placing him in the proud position of VV . M . of a Lodge so ancient as No . 81 . He had always , he said , taken the greatest interest in Freemasonry , and had passed through all offices except Senior Deacon , having gone from Junior Deacon to Secretary , and from Secretary to Jnnior Warden . He thanked Bro . Phillips for the eulogistic way in whioh he had proposed the toast , and especially for having in the

first instance seconded hia proposal for initiation . He regretted the absence of Bro . A . S . Gioss , who proposed him , throngh illness . The other toasts were the Charities , the Visitors , the Installing Master , ' the I . P . At -the Lodge meeting in tbe afternoon Brother Matthews was installed as W . M ., the ceremony of installation being performed by Bros . Shakerley and Wedlake . The Worshipfnl Master invested bis Officers , as follow : —Bros . Cornish S . W ., Howe J . W ., Small Treasnrer , Sampson

Secretary , W . Colonso Chaplain , Cliirgwin S . D ., Pearce Couch J . D ., R . Colenso Assistant Secretary , Cornish I . Shaokerley was presented with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of his services during the pasfc year .

It was unanimously decided to contribute £ 5 5 s to the Wheal Owles Relief Fond . The annnal dinner was held at the Western Hotel , an excellent repast being served by tho host , Bro . Mitchell . About sixty sat down to dinner . The company included several visitors , among whom were the following Worshipful Masters : —Bros . W . Viall 1544 , J . O . Eva 318 , and J . D . Wilkinson 450 .

ROYAL GLOUCESTER LODGE , No . 130 . THE brethren of this Lodgo mot at the Masonic Hall , Sonthampton , on Thursday afternoon , the 12 th nlf ., when Brother Penny the S . W . of tho past year was installed as Worshipfnl Master , the ceremony being ably performed by Bro . Tilling the out going Master . There was a numerous attendance , althongh many brethren sent apologies for absence , owing to illness or other causesthese including

, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Brother Le Feuvre , and Brother J . Lemon , Mayor of Southampton , who is Senior Warden of the Province . THE annual meeting of this Lodge was held at Newport , Isle of Wight , on Monday , the 9 th nlfc ., when the new bnilding , whioh has been erected on the site of the old Lodge , was used for the first time . A Past Master ' s jewel was unanimously voted to Brother Groves for his able services in the ohair dnring the past year . At the banquet whioh followed covers were laid for 64 , the company including several Visitors from other Lodges . The usual Loyal and Masonio toasts , wero honoured .

THE festivities connected wifch tbe installation meeting of thfg Lodge , which was held on the 13 th ult ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , were somewhat marred by the news that Bro . Alfred Piper , the Worshipful Master elect had suffered an irreparable loss by the death of his only son , whioh occurred on the 11 th ult . The members and visitors present were unanimous in their expressions of

sympathy with Bro . Piper , who was reluctantly compelled to abstain from presiding at the banquet table . The members present included Bros . E . A . G . Smith W . M ., Alfred Piper S . W ., T . Morris I . G ., R . B . Hopkins Organist , James Stephens D . C , Andrews A . D . C ., H . N . Price and J . Anley jun . Stewards , and A . Walkley P . M , Tyler . The W . M . presented Biother E . A . G . Smith with a Past Master ' s jewel in

recognition of services rendered to the Lodge , and the gift waa acknowledged . On the proposition of Brother George Everett , the usual sum of 25 guineas was voted to the Boys' School ; the sum was ordered to be placed on the list of the W . M ., who will serve as Steward . The Lodge was closed , and after an excellent banquet , the nsual toasts were given , under the presidency of Brother Ferguson .

Brother James Terry , who acknowledged for the Grand Officers , thanked Brother Everett for his kindness in permitting him the privilege of responding . In the absence of the Most Worshipfnl Grand Master , the other Grand Officers , notably the Pro Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master , had important duties to perform , and how well fchey discharged them those who attended the lapt Grand

Lodge meeting could judge . They regarded it as an evidence of the interest thoy took in the well-being and welfare of the Craft that no time was too great to devote to Grand Lodge . For himself , as a Grand Officer occupying an humble position , he had to thank them for the compliment paid him in conjonotion with the other Grand Officers . Bro . E . A , G . A . G . Smith with a Past Master ' s jewel in

recognition of services rendered to the Lodge , and the gift waa acknowledged . On the proposition of Brother George Everett , the usual sum of 25 guineas was voted to the Boys' School ; the sum was ordered to be placed on the list of the W . M ., who will serve as Steward . The Lodge was closed , and after an excellent banquet , the nsual toasts were given , under the presidency of Brother Ferguson .

Brother James Terry , who acknowledged for the Grand Officers , thanked Brother Everett for his kindness in permitting him the privilege of responding . In the absence of the Most Worshipfnl Grand Master , the other Grand Officers , notably the Pro Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master , had important duties to perform , and how well fchey discharged them those who attended the lapt Grand

Lodge meeting could judge . They regarded it as an evidence of the interest thoy took in the well-being and welfare of the Craft that no time was too great to devote to Grand Lodge .
