Olympic . —That most stirring drama "The Ticket of Leave Man " has once more been presented , this time at the theatre where it was originally produced , and where it secured such golden opinions . The present revival would add fresh laurels to the writer of this excellent piece were he here to receive them , but , alas , Tom Taylor
has passed away . The reception accorded the present revival was most hearty , people laughing over the queer sayings of good old Mrs . Willoughby , and wondering at the rascality of James Dalton . With a finished actor for Dalton we are sure to have an exciting time in the principal scene of the piece—tbe Bill Broker's office ; and in the
present case the representative of the part was , perhaps , the best that has ever taken it in hand . The management were lucky in securing the services of Mr . E . S . Willard to impersonate the Tiger . This gentleman's make np in "the scene" was a masterpiece , while his acting waa both powerful and grand . Mr . Willavd ' s disguise as
the old city gentleman was most complete , and we no longer wonder how the detective was hoodwinked . Mr . Yorke Stevens , as Hawkshaw , gave us another piece of good acting , his diguise being perfect . Mr . Henry Neville once more impersonates the Lancashire lad—Bob Brierley—and fnlly maintains his nsnal lightheartedness .
Clever Mrs . Stevens was if anything moro amusing than ever as Mrs . Willoughby . Mr . Julian Cross made an acceptable Melter Moss , while Mr . S . Calhaem was equally well fitted for Mr . Gibson . A sympathetic heroine was found in Miss Florence West as May
Edwards , and we congratulate this young lady on the rapid progress she is making in her profession . Miss Helen Leyton was a vivacious Sam , while the comic element was fairly sustained by Mr . E . Smedly Yates and Miss Bealy . "We may add that everything augurs well for another successful run .
Alhambra . —The latest effort in the way of spectacular ballet at this popular place of amusement , " Enchantment , " which was produced in December last , may be recognised as having fairly " caught on . " The four tableaux into whioh the work is sub-divided are worked out in such a spirited manner that even the proverbial
grumbler is silenced , and his stereotyped exclamation of Give me the old days of Her Majesty ' s " goes for nothing . Siguorina Bessone never appeared to us to better advantage than on the night of our last visit , while her supporters , Mdlles . Cormani , Gnerosohi , Marie , and Miss M . Thurgate displayed a vigorous , but honourable , rivalry that
could have but one result , and that eminently a successful one . The scenery represents some of the most artistic work ever undertaken by the talented gentlemen the management have secured , viz .: Messrs . Julian Hicks and Henry Watkin . Alias have supplied the dresses , and the arrangement of colours has been most happily worked out .
No ballet in the present day is considered complete without electric and lime-light effects , and here again the management have shown no stinted hand . We congratulate Signor Casati on the ability he
has displayed in the general arrangements ; while M . Jacobi s music surpasses , if anything , his most successful previous efforts . The evening's programme throughout was quite up to the standard of this attractive centre of amusement .
Over one hundred performances of " The Old Guard " have now been given , and judging from fche way in which tho pieco is nightly received the work will for some time yefc to come be popular . The piece is one ofthe best that has been seen at the Avenue for some long time : this the artists have not been slow to recognise . All
work well and earnestly , and with a result that the bouse is crowded nightly . We trust this state of things may continue . On Thursday , in consequence of the indisposition of Miss Phyllis Broughton , the part of Follow-the-Drnm was carefully played by Miss Nelly Woodford .
Saturday , the 11 th inst ., has been appointed for the Private View of the Spring Exhibition of the 19 th Centnry Art Society , at the Conduit Street Gallexa ' es , and tbe Exhibition will open tothe public on Monday , the 13 th inst .
