The Provincial Grand Master expressed the thanks of the Provincial Grand Lodge to the W . M . and members of Bedford Lodge , for their excellent arrangements , and the

splendid accommodation provided . He also tendered them their hearty congratulations on the Lodge celebrating its Centenary this year . Bro . Sqnire acknowledged the vote of the Lodge .

Bro . Major Tracy , as D . P . G . M . pro tern , said he was sure every member of the P . G . Lodge felt pleased at the fact that the P . G . M . was sufficiently recovered to . be enabled to preside over them that day , and he trnsted that he would be long spared to reign over them .

The P . G . M . said it was his pleasure and daty to be with them that day . The brethren afterwards sat down to the annual banquet , ' at Sqaire ' s Bedford Hotel . The P . G . M . Lord Ebrington , ¦; M . P ., presided over a company of about 100 . The loyal toast having been duly honoured . i

The P . G . M ., in giving the health of tho G . M . of England H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , referred to tho extraordinary strides Masonry had made under the genial rule of H . R . H . ' When he ( Lord Ebrington ) was first appointed P . G . M . the Junior Lodge numbered 1700 ; now the Jnnior Lodge

was over 2200 , and that not the Jnnior Lodge in the kingdom . The satisfaction with which the appointment of the Earl of Monnt Edgcumbe as Depnty Grand Master of England was exemplified by the tact that whether as I neighbour , land owner , Brigadier of the Auxiliary Forces ,:

Lord Lieutenant and P . G . M . of Cornwall , be had won the respect and something like the affection of those with whom j he had been brought in contact . He was scire thoy con-1 :

gratnlated his lordship on the approaching union of bis daughter with the son of a gentleman well known and , highly esteemed , the chief fault in his character being that he had not yet become a Freemason .

Bro . Terry , Secretary of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons and Widows , who replied for the Officers ofthe Grand Lodge , said the Graud Master had exercised wise discretion in his appoinfcments of the Earl of Lathom and the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , Pro

Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master respectively , or by that means he united the north and west Provinces , and he trusted the union would long continue . Ho appealed

to them to subscribe liberally to the Institution he represented , which next year wonld celebrate its Jubilee , and suggested that the P . G . M . should become one of the Stewards at the Jubilee .

Bro . John Squire , W . M . of Lodge Bedford , in proposing tho health of the P . G . M ., thanked him for selecting Tavistock this year for the P . G . Lodge . His Lordship was restored to comparatively good health , and they trusted he wonld be enabled to preside in the important office of P . G . M . of Devonshire for many years .

Lord Ebrington , in reply , said he was pleased to say he was better , but if he had consulted his doctor ' s wishes he would not have been present that day . He asked his Provincial Officers to keep np the high standard of Masonry in their respective offices . The P . G . M . then

proposed the W . M . ' s of the various Lodges in the Province . Bro . John Squire , in response , read a unique newspaper account of tho consecration of Lodge Bedford , in 1791 . Bro . Major Dick , who also responded , said ho thought it was tbe duty of not only tbe brethren in tho Three Towns ,

but in the southern part of the Province , to support the grand Masouic hall built for their convenience in the Three Towns . Bro . McLeod , Secretary of the Royal Masonic School for Boys , in replying for the toast of tho visitors ,

reported the satisfactory progress of tho School . Ho said , under the tuition of a Devonshire Mason , Bro . Ebb P . G . Chap , of Devon , tho boys were passing butter examinations than over known in the history of the School . A pleasant evening was spent .

THE annual meeting was held on Wednesday , 16 th September , at Tenbury . The brethren of the thirteen Lodges which comprise the Province attended in force , there being present about 170 Freemasons . Brethren from a distance were entertained at luncheon on

their arrival by the St . Michael ' s Lodge , No . 1097 , Tenbury , at the Pump Room . Prior to the opening of the Provincial Grand Lodge , a meeting of the Committee of the Western Provinces Charity Organisation was held at the residence of Brother

G . R . Godson , the Most Worshipful the Provincial Graud Master of the Province ( Sir Edmund A . H . Lechmere , Bart ., M . P . ) presiding , supported by the Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . A . F . Godson , M . P . ) the Provincial Charity Secretary Brother E . J .

Chambers , and others . It was reported that over 400 guineas had been subscribed in the Province during the past year in aid of tho Masonic Charitable Institutions . The Provincial Grand Lodge was opened at noon in the Corn Exchange . The muster roll ofthe Lodges was called ,

and the Provincial Grand Master afterwards called upon the different Worshipful Masters to make their usual report on the state of their Lodges . In each case the reports were satisfactory . The Provincial Grand Secretary read a report on the state of Masonry iu the Province ,

which showed that there was nn iveroa-e of twelve subscribing brethren in the Province sinne last venr , the total number now being 474 . Bro . Joatland ( Worcester ) was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . A satisfactory report

was presented by the Charity Committee , of which Bi * o . Chambers was afterwards re-elected Secretary , with Bro . Shedden as his Assistant . Various sums wore voted to the widows of deceased brethren who were in distressed

circumstances , ponding their election as annuitants of Iho Benevolent Institution . Fifty guineas were voted from the funds of the Provincial Grand Lodge for tf > e purpose of forming the nucleus of a fund to commemorate the memory of the late Bro . Ma * -efield P . D . P . G . M ., by p ' acing

a tablet in St . John ' s Church , Dudley , and hy the investment of a sufficient sum for the presentation of a prizj annually to the Girls' and Boy . s' Misonic Scno ** ls , to be called the " Masefield Prize . " The nexfc meeting of the

Provincial Grand Lodge was fixed for Dudley , uoder the banner of the Harmonic Lodge , 252 . The Provincial Grand Master appointed and inve ted the following to the duties of the Provincial Grand Lodge for the year : —
