picturesque spectacle whilst tho Lodge was in session . After the formal opening , an address of congratulation was presented to the R . W . the Provincial Grand Master on his appointment to the post of Viceroy of Ireland , and

G . M . of West Yorkshire ( Bro . T . W . Tew ) submitted tho toast of " The Right Hon . tho Earl of Zetland R . W . Grand Master of North and East Yorkshire . " For fifteen years Lord Zetland had presided over the Masonic destinies of

that most historic province , which had been over loyal to tho Throne , to the family of Zetland , and which would ever be loyal to the present R . W . Grand Master of tho Province . Nothing had given those from West Yorkshire greater

pleasure than to be present at the Grand Lodge , and to echo in every respect the noble sentiments expressed in the address which Lord Zetland had been graciously pleased to receive . He was present to show how beloved Lord

Zetland was to those in West Yorkshire , and to add his feeling testimony to the joy they all felt at his lordshi p ' s patriotism in accepting the important office of Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland , and that the choice of her Most

Gracious Majesty had fallen upon so popular an English uobleman and noble English gentleman . He hoped tbat when his term of office had expired Lord Zetland would return to his beloved Province , with health aud strength to

preside over it with that ability which had distinguished him in tho past . He wished his lordship God-speed in the arduous duties he was about to undertake , and he doubted uot that so popular a Yorkshircraan would make their

friends in Ireland moro peaceable subjects to law and order that fchey had over been before . Lord Zetland , iu replying , thanked thoso present for the exceedingly kind manner in which the toast had been proposed and received . The

proposer had referred to tbat high ofiice he had accepted in her Majesty's present Government . He could assure them that ho should thoroughly appreciate the honourable position of being her Majesty's representative in Ireland ,

and he could only repeat what ho had said when ho was presented thafc afternoon with that inngnificenfc address , that when ifc became his duty to go across the Channel , he would endeavour to do Ids duty in Ireland as became n Briton aud a Yorksbircuian . He would feel ouo groat

possibly ho should havo to sever tho connection , which had now existed for fifteen years , between the Province of North ancl Easfc Yorkshire and himself , so far as to render it impossible for him fco reside so continuously within the Province as ho had hitherto done . That regret , however , was alleviated

very much by his feeling that ho should not only enjoy tho sympathy of tho Freemasons of tho Province , but that , under the guidance of the Deputy Grand Master , tho interests of Freemasonry would bo as safely guarded

as it ho himself woro among them . In conclusion , his Lordship proposed tho health of tho R . W . Proviucial Grand Master of West Yorkshire ( Bro . Tow ) . Bro . Tew , in responding , assured thoso present that his

brethren iu West Yorkshire wero only too anxious to co-operate with North and East Yorkshire in everything that was for the benefit of Freemasonry . Bro . J . Todd P . P . G . S . W . submitted tho health of Lient .-Colonel fcho

Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett , R . W . Past Grand Warden , Deputy Provincial Graud Master of North and East Yorkshire . Brother Liou tenant-Colonel Orde-Powlefcfc replied , aud said ho would try , wifch fche help of fche Officers , fco undertake his duty to the best of his skill and ability .

Ifc had given him very great pleasure to come to Hull ; ifc always did , for Freemasonry was increasing in popularity iu Hull , and in the right way . They should not ask mon fco become Masons for fche sake of filling Lodges , bufc they should ask good and true men to join the Craffc . Ifc was

only by electing proper people that they could expect Freemasonry to flourish . It was now more than 20 years since the Provincial Graud Lodge assembled under the banner of tho Humber Lodge , which was , he believed , the senior Lodge in the Province , aud which set a good example in everything it undertook . In Hull a number of Lodges had sprung up round about the Humber ; they were all most anxious to do their duty , and he thought they had succeeded uncommonly well . Ho returned

thanks for the way in which the toast had been received , and proposed tho newly-appointed Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodgo . The toasfc was replied to by Bro . J . A . Malcolmsen P . S . G . W ., who said he ancl and his fellow Officers would do their duty to tho best of their ability .

They had no doubt bufc thafc Masonry would goon welt during his Lordship ' s temporary absence . Lord Zetland proposed fcho health of the W . M . of tho Humber Lodge .
