Province Of Berks And Bucks.

THE annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Berks and Bucks was held immediately after that of the Provincial Grand Chapter , also under the presidency of Bro . Sir Daniel Gooch , Bart . Prov . Grand Lodge having been opened , the roll of Lodges was called over ,

-when it was found that all were represented . The roll of Prov . Grand Officers was next called , a largo number of brethren answering to their names . The minutes having been confirmed , Bro . Robert Bradley Prov . Grand

Secretary read the financial statement of the year , and also the report of the Charity Committee . The former showed a balance on the general account of £ 144 19 s 7 d , out of which the brethren voted 25 guineas to the Charity Fund ,

while , on the recommendation of the Charity Committee , sums of £ 10 10 s and £ 5 s wero voted for charitable purposes to the different Lodges who subscribed to the Provincial Charity Fund . A sum of 20 guineas was also voted

to a distressed brother , who for many years had rendered valuable service to the cause of Masonry in this and other provinces , and with whom deep sympathy was expressed now that he had fallen , into ill-health and straitened

circumstances . The Provincial Grand Secretary ' s report on the state of the Lodges in the province was considered highly satisfactory . It showed that the present membership was 799 , the Past Masters numbering 185 . During the past

year 160 regular Lodges , and sixteen Lodges of emergency had been held , at which eighteen brethren had joined the district , while 47 gentlemen had been initiated in the several Lodges . The Provincial Grand

Master having complimented the brethren on the satisfactory nature of these reports , and on the steady progress that had been made in the Province , proceeded to the nomination of Bro . Charles Stephens as Provincial Grand

Treasurer for the ensuing year . The nomination was seconded by the Deputy of the Province , Bro . Rev . J . Studholme Brownrigg , and unanimously agreed to . Bro . Stephens acknowledged the compliment ,. and then Bro . Edward Home P . M . 1887 was invested with the Provincial

Charity Jewel . A discussion followed , in reference to cases brought before the Provincial Charity Committee , the result being that the following resolution was passed , on the motion of Bro . Dixon , seconded by the Deputy Prov .

G . Master : — " That in the opinion of the Prov . G . Lodge , only the children and widows of brethren who , at the time of death have been subscribing members for three years , should receive the votes of the Charity Committee , ancl in the

case of a Mason , that no brother should obtain the votes unless he has been a subsribing member for five years . " It was also decided to hold the meetings of the Charity

Committee in London at four o ' clock in future , for the greater convenience of brethren who have to return to the country . The following brethren were then appointed as

followed at the Corn Exchange . Under the presidency of the Provincial Grand Master , the customary toasts were honoured . In proposing that of the Grand Master Sir ¦ Daniel Gooch referred to the installation of the Duke of

Connaught as Provincial Grand Master of Sussex by the Prince of Wales , and spoke of the excellent way in which His lloval Highness had carried out the ceremony ,

-During the evening the Provincial Grand Master announced that next year ' s meeting of the Provincial Grand IT ' iocl go would be held at Windsor , and said that as they would then assemble under the walls , as it were , of

Province Of Berks And Bucks.

Windsor Castle , and as it would be during the jubilee year of Her Majesty ' s reign , he felt sure they would have a very successful gathering .

Fidelity Lodge of Instruction , Wo . 3 . —At tho weakly meeting of this Lodge , held at t , he Alfred Tavern , Roman Road , Barnsbnry , on Wednesday the 23 rd ult ., there win a very large muster of brethren to hear Bro . L . Solomon , P . M . 1732 , rehearse the ceremony of installation , among them were Bros . W . A . Scnrrah

Prov . G . Sap . of Works for Middlesex , W . M . Stiles P . M . 1507 . & c , Pntland P . M . 1732 , Gregory P . M . 1538 , Ac , Fercrnsson P . M . 177 , & o . ( Preceptor ) , Bolton W . M . elect 1314 , Silvester S . W . 195 ( Treasurer ) , Dimsdale S . D . 1507 ( Secretary ) , Whiting , Wheelock , Bleakley , Messer , Ament , Wright , Thorn , and many others . The Lodge was

opened in the three degrees by Bro . Solomon , supported by Bros . Gregory S . W ., Bleakley J . W ., Messer S . D ., Ament JiD ., ancl Wright I . G . The ceremony of raising was rehearsed , Bro . Thorn acting as candidate . The Lodge was resumed to the 2 nd degree , and Bro . G . R . Bolton , W . M . eleot of the Acacia Lodge 1314 , was duly

obligated as W . M . elect . Bro . Solomon then rehearsed the remainder of the installation oeremony in perfect style , and the Officers were appointed and invested in due form by Bro . Bolton . At the conclusion of the ceremony a very hearty vote of thanks was carried by

acclamation to Bro . Solomon , for the splendid manner in which he had carried out the ceremonies . Bro . G . Gregory P . M . and P . Z . was unanimously elected W . M . for the meeting to be held on the 30 th inst . All Masonic business being ended , Lodge was closed in due form , in perfect harmony .

After preliminaries , Bro . Turner answered the questions leading to the third degree , and was entrusted . Lodge opened in the third degree , and the ceremony of raising was rehearseel , Bro . Collingridge candidate . Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and closed in due form .
