DEVON CHARITY FUND .

THE Committee of Petitions representing the Provincial Grand Lodge of Devon held its annual meeting on the 30 th ult ., at Exeter . Bro . W . G . Rogers D . P . G . M . presided , and Bros . J . B . Gover Secretary , and Major G . 0 . Davie P . G . Secretary , were among

those present . There were four applicants for reliefan a <* ed Brother of 1212 , reduced in circumstances through the dishonesty of one in whom he and others

had confidence ; an aged widow of a brother of 1254 ; the widow of a brother of 1205 , suffering from cancer ; and a child , the daughte ' r of a deceased brother of 1125 . The sum of £ 5 was voted to each applicant . Bros .

W . G . Rogers , chairman of the committee ; Rev . W . Whittley , representative in London ; and J . B . Gover , Secretary to the committee , were all re-elected .

Some of the more energetic among the Staffordshire . brethren are advocating the formation of a local Masonic fund on the same lines as that so successfully working in Cheshire , where £ 3 , 200 has been raised , and two aged

Masons have been elected as annuitants to receive £ 20 a year each . Despite the many local funds now in existence or contemplated , it is very gratifying to see that support of the Central Institutions is well sustained .

We are of opinion these local funds may , in fact , act as regular feeders to the older Charities if judiciously worked , rather than take anything away from them ,

and such we believe is the wish and intention of those who take an active part in their inauguration or maintenance .

o o o The Master of the Union workhouse at Dorchester received from Bro . G . J . G . Gregory , on behalf of the brethren of Lodge " Eaith and Unanimity , " the sum of

£ 1 15 s 3 d collected at the annual banquet on 3 rd ult . The sum will be applied , as in former years , to providing the children with an extra summer trip to the seaside . < £

o o o The Members of the Isle of Axholme Lodge , No . 1 , 482 ( Bro . C . Fox W . M . ) held their annual entertainment in aid of the Masonic Charities last month , and , as usual ,

it proved a success . On this occasion the services of Mr . Harry Liston were engaged , and everyone appeared delighted with him . The brethren , in honour of the

occasion , had a dispensation granted them , and they appeared in Masonic clothing , which added to the brightness and colour of the adornment .

o o o The theft of a Masonic certificate led to the prosecution of Andrew Stewart at Perth last week , when , five previous convictions having been proved against him , he Was sentenced to sixty days' imprisonment .

, A GREAT BLESSING TO HUMANITY is without doubt a medicine composed of ingredients that , whilst it eradicates the germs of disease , strengthens the system . Holloway ' s Pills act in this manner , and in general debility , mental depression and nervous irritability there is no remedy which operates so beneficially . They purify the blood , give tone to the stomach and thoroughly

regenerate the system . They are mild in operation , although most powerful in removing disease . Delicate females and young children cnn take them with safety and benefit . It would be difficult to enumerate nil the advantages to bo derived by taking these wonderful pills . No household should be without them , for there is no complaint which they cannot cure or relieve .
