WE are asked to state that Thursday , 28 th inst , is the latest day by which petitions for the April election of 1902 must reach the Office of this Institution . It is , however , very desirable that they should be received as much before that date as possiole .

AI the regular meeting or the Council , held at . Freemasons' Hall , . London , W . C ., on Friday , 26 th ult ., Bro . Major J . E . Le Feuvre P . G . D . Vice-Patron was in the chair , and amongst those attending were Bros . Geo . Chapman , George Everett , J . Percy Fitzgerald , C . Pulman , W . Russell , j . Stephens , \ V . A . Scurrah , Alfred J . Thomas , and J . W . Woodall .

A letter from Mrs . Pritchard thanking the Council for its vote of condolence on the death of her husband , who had been a member of the Board of Management since 1 S 91 , was read . It was reported that Flarry Douglas Aubrey Maidment

had been awarded the " Victoria Diamond Jubilee Scholarship , and had entered at the Royal College of Science , South Kensington , to undergo a course of studies to qualify as a mining engineer . A grant of ^ 20 was made to him for his assistance during his studentship .

Bro . j . W . Woodall P . G . Treasurer was unanimously elected , to fill the vacancy on the Board of Management created by the death of Bro . Iienry Pritchard . The Secretary reported that Lodge Victoria , No . 2329 ,

Buenos Ayres , in the district of the Argentine Republic , had made a special donation of seventy-five guineas to the Institution , in memory of its late Grand Patron Her Majesty Queen Victoria , after whom the Lodge was named .

A hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings .

Grand Master Of Scotland.

GRAND MASTER OF SCOTLAND .

THE Grand Committee has unanimousl y recommended to Grand Lodge that the Hon . James Hozier , M . P ., be reelected Grand Master Mason of Scotland , and Bro . Hozier has intimated his readiness to accept the Office .

****************** A wall decoration in the meeting place of one of the oldest Scottish Lodges is the painting of an old Tyler of the Lodge , says the " Mallet , " in " Glasgow Evening News . " He is armed with the regulation sword , and looks fierce

enough to use it to some purpose if occasion had required , but instead of the emblem of that war-like weapon hanging from the collar there is a padlock . A suitable enough emblem , but it is the onl y " jewel" of the kind I have seen or heard of in connection with Masonry , remarks our contemporary .
