The Minutes of fche last Quarterly Convocation to be read for confirmation . THE REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF GENERAL PURPOSES .

To the Supreme Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of England . The Committeo of General Purposes beg to report that they have examined the Accounts from the 17 th July , to the 15 th October 1895 , both inclusive , which they find to be as follows : To Balance , Grand Chapter - - - £ 364 7 6 „ „ Unappropriated Account - 202 6 2 „ Subsequent Receipts - 356 1 8 £ 1 , 422 15 4

By Disbursements during fcho Quarter - 337 7 7 „ Balance 876 9 1 „ ,, Unappropriated Account - - 208 , 18 8 £ 1 , 422 15 4

which Balances are in the Bank of England , Law Courts Branch . The Committee have likewise to report that they have received the following Petitions : — 1 st . From Companions Philip Shepherd as Z ., Ebenezer George Field as H ., Arthur Wood as J ., and six others for a Chapter to be attached to the Royal Albert Edward Lodge , No . 1362 , to be called " The Royal Albert Edward Chapter , " and to meet at the Market Hall , Redhill , in the County df Surrey .

2 nd . From Companions Ebenezer Charles Mulvey as Z ., Siegmund Lichtenfeld as H ., Henry Gardner as J ., and seven others for a Chapter to be attached to tho Broxbourne Lodge , No . 2353 , to be called " The Broxbourne Chapter , " and to . meet at the Hadley Hotel , New Barnet , in the County of Hertfordshire .

3 rd . From Companions Charles George Miles as Z ., Albert John Duffield as H ., Frank Meaker as J ., and seven others for a Chapter tobe attache'd'to'the Albany Lodge , No . 389 , to be called " The Grahamstown Chapter , " and to meet at the Temple , Grahamstown , Cape Colony . The foregoing Petitions being regular , fche Committee recommend that the prayers thereof bo respectively granted .

The Committee have likewise received Memorials , with extracts of Minutes , for permission to remove the following Chapters : — " The Fermor Hesketh Chapter , " No . 1350 , from the Masonic Hall , Hope Street , Liverpool , to the County Hall , Pembroke Road , Bootle .

" The Sir Georgo Elliot Chapter , " No . 960 , from the Masonic Hall , Working Street , to the Masonic Temple , Guildford Street , Cardiff . " The St . John ' s Chapter , " No . 36 , from the Masonic Hall , "Working Street , to the Masonic Temple , Guildford Street , Cardiff . The Committee being satisfied of fche reasonableness of the above requests , recommend that the removal of these Chapters be sanctioned .

The Committee further recommend that , inasmuch as the Priory Chapter , No . 1863 , Tynemouth , has ceased working , and has not replied to the Summons sent'to it by Grand Chapter , this Chapter be erased . 1 ( Signed ) GEORGE D . HARRIS ,

Acting President . Freemasons' Hall , London , W . C . 16 th October 1895 .

We see a local paper referring to the fact that one of the candidates seeking election to the District Council is " a member of the Craft , and will be thankful for any assistance that brother members can give him . " We do not approve of such an association of Freemasonry wifch outside affairs , and hope the

reference is rather the result of excessive enthusiasm on the part of an admirer of the candidate , than a direct attempt on his part to make use of Freemasonry in his endeavours to secure the position . While there may not be anything absolutely wrong in mentioning that candidates or members of District Councils are members of fche Craft no good is likely to arise from such-a

course . o o o We have received a copy of the humorous Masonic song referred to in our report of the Eccentric Lodge , No . . 2488 , which was sung by Bro . Jack Harrison . It is called " Tbe

Mason ' s Sign , " and is written and composed by Bro . Charles J . Taylor P . M . of the Strand Lodge , No . 1987 . Copies may be obtained from Bro . John N . Hare , Arundel , Sussex . It has just the light touch and go required for an after dinner song . The music , especially the chorus , is lively and easily caught up .
