REPORTS OF MEETINGS .

We shall be pleased to receive particulars of Masonic meetings for insertion in our columns , and where desired will endeavour to send a representative to report Lodge or other proceedings .

CEAPT : PKOVINCIAL .

MENTURIA LODGE , No . 418 . ON Tuesday evening , 21 st ult ., following the ordinary quarterly meeting of the Lodge in the Masonic Hall , Hanley , Bro . William Wood read to a large gathering of Brethren an interesting paper on " Personal reminiscences and experiences in the Arctic regions , " the ex-sergeantmajor of the Boyal Marines having been one of the members of Captain Sir George Nares's Polar Expedition in 1870-1 . The various incidents graphically described by Bro . Wood were , through the instrumentality of

Bro . 3 . W . Moore , rendered still more interesting by some fifty capital pictures thrown upon a screen by a powerful lantern . Many articles associated with the expedition , such as wearing apparel , photographs , papers , & c , were displayed in one of the rooms for the inspection of the Brethren . At the conclusion of the paper the Worshipful Master Bro . C . P . Baker proposed a vote of thanks to Bros . Wood and Moore , for the pleasure hey had afforded the Brethren .

PLEIADES LODGE , No . 710 . nnHE election meeting was regularly held at Totnes , when Bro . Bev . W . E . I Windle S . W . was elected to the position of Worshipful Master for the ensuing year , and Bro . 3 . Cole was again selected to act as Treasurer of the Lodge . The installation meeting will take place on Tth October .

EGERTON LODGE , No . 1030 . THE regular meeting was held at the George Hotel , Heaton Norris , on Monday , 20 th ult ., Bro . A . E . Broome S . W . acting as Worshipful Master . After the reading and confirmation of the minutes , a ballot , which

was successful , was taken for Mr . William Geo . Brocklebank , Heaton Chapel , and he was initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry by Bro . Geo . B . Goodfellow I . P . M ., the working tools being presented and explained by Bro . Broome , the address in the N . E . devolving upon Bro . Thos . Knott P . M . Secretary .

An election of Officers afterwards took place , with the result that the choice of W . M .-elect fell upon Bro . Broome . Bro . W . A . Vaughan P . M . was elected Treasurer for the ensuing year , and Bros . J . B . Oldham , W . A . Vaughan and Broome were appointed to audit the books . _ The S . W . received the able support of Past Masters Abm . Pemberton P . P . G . D . C . Treas ., Capt . E . G . Lingard P . P . G . R ., Walter H . Vaughan P . P . G . R ., and Geo . Lingard Vaughan Prov . G . R .

At the festive board , Loyal and Masonic toasts were varied by songs and sketches , rendered by Bros . 0 . Tilsey 1459 , A . Ellor 104 2464 , and E . Roberts P . M . 1459 .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 1343 . A MEETING of this Lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Grays , on Wednesday , 22 nd ult ., Bros . Ayres W . M ., Polling I . P . M ., Weymouth S . W ., Silverwood J . W ., Westwood P . M . Treasurer , Asplin S . D . ; Atkins P . M . J . D ., R . Matthews Assist . Organist , Walker I . G ., Dorman Steward , H . E . Brook , 3 . W . Barefoot , A . C . James , Sievewright , Higgins , Porter , Dames , and several others . Visitors—Bros . Ferguson and Sleigh .

The Lodge was opened in thc first degree , and in tho absence of the Secretary Bro . Borradaile through illness , Bro . Westwood P . M . read the minutes , which were confirmed and signed . The ballot was then taken for Mr . H . J . Poster , and proved unanimous in his favour . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and Bro . Manning was questioned and entrusted . The Lodge was resumed to the

first degree , and Mr . Foster was admitted into the secrets of our Order . The Lodge was opened in the third degree , and Bro . Manning was raised as a Master Mason . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and Mr . W . T . Knight , who had previously been balloted for , was passed through the ceremony of his initiation . The ceremonies were faultlessly worked b y the Worshipful Master .

The Lodge was then closed in due form and the Brethren retired to the banqueting room , where a very enjoyable evening was spent . Songs were contributed by Bros . Higgins , Porter , Wingrove and Pean .

JORDAN LODGE , No . 1402 . THE animal festival was held at the Masonic Hall , Torquay , on the 14 th ult ., when Bro . Charles Hill J . W . was installed as W . M . for the ensuing year by Bro . John Lane P . A . G . D . C . England . A handsome Past Master's jewel was presented by Bro . John Dodge P . P . G . T . to Bro . Grossman I . P . M . in recognition of the very successful way in which ho had carried out the duties of his office during the past year .

The annual banquet followed at the Bath Saloons , Bro . W . J . Nosworthy catering very satisfactorily . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were observed , Bro . John Lane responding for the Grand Lodge of England . The musical arrangements were under the direction * of Bro . S . G . Stone Organist . Replying to the toast of the Masonic Charities , proposed by Bro . Gale , Bro . T . H . Wills said the Jordan Lodge stood high in tho Province on account

of the votes possessed by members in the various charities . For the three great Masonic Charities tbey bad a total of 448 votes , for the Devon Masonic Educational Fund , 294 this year . They were well represented in the Fortescue Charity Fund , and in the Aged Widows had twenty-eight votes , thirty-seven in the Mark Benevolent—an offshoot of the Jordan—and seven in the Female Orphan . The Jordan Charities Association had spent over thirty-six guineas during the past three years .

SACKVILLE LODGE , No . 1619 . rjpHE annual installation meeting was held on Tuesday , Tth ult ., at East JL Grinstead , when Bro . J . E . Lark was installed by Bro . G . Mitchell as W . M . for tho ensuing year . There was an unusually large number of visiting Brethren from all parts of Surrey and Sussex .

A valuable Past Master ' s jewel was presented to the outgoing W . M . Bro . W . H . Dixon , in recognition of the able manner in which he had carried out his duties during the past twelve months . During the meeting Bro . E . A . Head announced that Bro . Budd-Budd had presented to the Lodge a site in St . James ' s Road for a Masonic Temple , and had headed the building fund with a handsome donation . This munificent gift was received with deep gratitude , and a cordial vote of thanks was passed to the generous donor .

The Brethren afterwards dined together , under the presidency of the W . M ., at the Railway Hotel , where Bro . Clark provided a most ample and elegant banquet , which reflected the highest possible credit on his establishment . The customary toasts were honoured , and an excellent musical programme was sustained by Brethren and several visiting friends of tho W . M .

ST . CECILIA LODGE , No . 1636 . RESUMING their monthly meetings , after their customary summer recess , tho members wero " At Homo " at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on 28 th ult . Tho corridor was elaborately decorated with choice flowers and palms , tastefully arranged bv Bro . W . Balchin jun ., and the Music

Room , in which the Brethren and their guests were received by the W . M . Bro . Alfred Upton and Mrs . Upton , was richly furnished . Supper was laid in the Banqueting Room , where nearly 150 sat down under the presidency of the W . M . A very short toast list was submitted . The W . M . proposed the Queen and the Craft , which was duly honoured .

Bro . Colonel Tester I . P . M . next gave the Worshipful Master . Bro . Upton , he said , had been for many years an active and Loyal member of the Lodge , and had most ably carried out tbe duties of the various Offices entrusted to him . The Brethren were greatly indebted to Bro . Upton for tho successful manner in which , for the first half of the year , he had acted as their W . M ., and he felt he would do even better during the remainder of the year .

Bro . Alfred Upton , who was warmly received on rising to respond , thanked those present for the hearty manner in which they had received the boast . He said that they had met for an evening ' s enjoyment , and not for long speeches , but he felt that be was bound to testify to the Loyal support he had received from his Officers and members of the Lodge , among whom existed a strong feeling of Brotherhood .

Bro . Freeman then submitted the Visitors , to which Bro . J . Tickle , the Rev . E . H . Nash , and Mr . Penley responded . On the termination of the toast list , the Brethren and their friends adjourned to the music room , where a pleasing programme of vocal and instrumental music was sustained , under the direction of Bro . George Colo P . P . G . O . Organist of the Lodge .

During the evening dancing took place in the salosn , the north drawing room being set apart for light refreshments . The gathering proved highly enjoyable , much of its success being due to the admirable arrangements made by Bro . Gwatkin Secretary , who received invaluable assistance from Bro . W . Balchin jun . P . M ., and Bro . W . J . Towner I . G .

ELDON LODGE , No . 1755 . ON Saturday , llth ult ., at the Royal Hotel , Portishead , in the presence of a large number of members and distinguished visitors , the installation of Bro . T . Turner took place . The ceremony was performed by the D . P . G . M . of Somerset Bro . R . C . Else P . G . D . England . The ceremony over , the annual banquet took place , and the usual Masonic toasts were honoured .

ALBERT VICTOR LODGE , No . 1773 . r * pHE regular meeting was held at the Town Hall , Pendleton , on Friday , I 17 th ult ., Bro . Thos . M . Brown W . M . There was a capital attendance of members and visitors alike , principal among whom were Bros . Jas . Clough I . P . M ., Wm . Lambert S . W ., Wm . Thos . Blease J . W ., Thos . Kay P . M . Treas ., W . A . Smith Secy ., J . Harrop P . M P . P . G . D . D . C , Past Masters E . Winterbottom Prov . G . D . D . C , Thos . Threlfall P . P . G . S ., E . Holland , Wm . Mosley , J . L . of an initiation , a passing , and two raisings ; the passing , however , was deferred . A successful ballot having beeu taken for Mr . John Jackson , Manager , Ardwick , that gentleman was initiated by the W . M . Bros . G . J . Blore and J . H . Oakley wero then raised to the sublime degree of M . M . by Bros . Clough and the W . M . respectively , tho junior Officers assisting in each

ceremony . After Lodge business , a supper was partaken of , this being succeeded by a couple of hours of harmony .

ST . CUTHBERT LODGE , No . 1902 . nnHE annual meeting took place at the Lodge Room , Bedlington , on JL Tuesday , Tth ult ., when Bro . G . Robert Turner was installed W . M ., Bro . T . M . Foggo I . P . M . acting as Installing Master . After the ceremony the annual banquet was held at the Turk ' s Head Hotel , several visiting Brethren being present from D'Ogle Lodge , No . 636 , Morpeth ; Blagdon Lodge , No . 659 , Blyth ; and other Lodges .

GREYSTONE LODGE , No . 1915 . i pHE annual installation meeting was held at the Foresters' Hall , JL Whitstable , on the 16 th ult ., when Bro . J . W . Elwin was installed , the ceremony being performed by the retiring W . M . Bro . R . T . Wheeler . After Lodge , the usual banquet was held at the Bear and Key , when about ninety Brethren , including many visitors from Grand , Provincial Grand , and various other Lodges , sat down under tbe presidency of the new W . M . After dinner the customary Masonic toasts were honoured , interspersed with music .

GREYSTONE LODGE , No . 1915 . i pHE annual installation meeting was held at the Foresters' Hall , JL Whitstable , on the 16 th ult ., when Bro . J . W . Elwin was installed , the ceremony being performed by the retiring W . M . Bro . R . T . Wheeler . After Lodge , the usual banquet was held at the Bear and Key , when about ninety Brethren , including many visitors from Grand , Provincial Grand , and various other Lodges , sat down under tbe presidency of the new W . M . After dinner the customary Masonic toasts were honoured , interspersed with music .
