Deputy Graud Mark Master , and the Grand Mark Officers present and past , " and referred to tho present position of tho Order bciugsiich as could never havo been arrived afc but for the extreme devotion to its interests of highly distinguished

Masons in the Craft degrees , Avho seeing its many beauties as an exponent of tho sublime principles of Freemasonry , hud spared no efforts to promote its strength and prosperity . Prom the M . W . G . M . M . through all the several Officers in Grand Mark Lodge tho samo energy and perseverance had been displayed , and he considered this a fitting opportunity to recognise the indefatigable

exertions of Pro . Binckes . P . G . S . W . and Grand Secretary , Avho had laboured more than any ether ninn lie knew , in securing the distinguished position of tho Mark Degree . After a very cordial reception of the tonst , Bro . Binckes , first returning thanks on behalf of tho M . W . G . M . M . and his past and present Officers , gave a brief but interesting resume ot tho progress of the Order , and . stated that ,

looking back , as ho could do , OA-or a period of tAvcnty years , ho could remember that such unparalleled success Avas scarcely contemplated , for the increase of Lodges in this degree of late years had even exceeded in proportion that of the Craft , and tbo Order had boon benefited b y tho ) influx of a largo number of distinguished and influential Masons . A still further increase of prosperity Avas foreshadoAved by tho

recognition the Order had received from numerous Grand Masonic bodies , and he ventured to make an announcement Avhich , althongh now for tlic first time made , Avould shortly become public , and greatly gratify all connected with Mark Masonry , that ho Avas in official receipt of tho fact that the Grand Chapter of Scotland had also accorded their recognition of the English organisation . Colonel Francis Burdett , whose name Avas not only a household word in the Province over which he presided , bnt Avas known aud recognised far beyond that

area as that of a kindly aud generously disposed man aud a liard-Avorking Mason . Under his benign rule the Lodges of both Craft and Mark Masomy had trebled or quadrupled , and that fact alone was sufficient to prove the great esteem in ivhich ho was hold by tho hrethren generally .
