CURRENT EVENTS .

THE present are stirring times in English Freemasonry ; indeed , it is doubtful whether the more prominent members of the Order ever had a greater number of calls made upon them in

connection with important events , ialiing close together , than will be the case to-day and next week , when matters of interest will be brought forward for discussion , and more than one event of importance

will be decided . To-day we have the General Committee Meeting of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , when , amongst other business to be transacted , there will be the election of the House , and Finance

and Audit Committees for the ensuing year , and in connection with which some unpleasantness is anticipated . On Monday the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls provides its annual entertainment to the

Stewards of the year , and the prizes will be distributed to the scholars , the gathering being fixed to take place—in consequence of the very large number nf Stewards find nthp . vs who nrfi fvsrt . f . fvl-fir . to n .+.+. m . d—

at the Royal Albert Hall , South Kensington , instead of at the Institution at Battersea , as has been the case in years gone by . But what will make the gathering still more interesting is the fact that Pier Royal

Highness the Princess of Wales , with her daughters , has promised to attend . Moreover , they will be accompanied by the Most Worshipful the Grand Master His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales . On Tuesday there will be a

Half-Yearly Communication ol the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons , at the Holborn Restaurant . On Wednesday the United Grand Lodge of English Craft Masonry will hold its usual June Quarterly

Communication , when a message will be received from the M . W . Pro Grand Master relative to the present position of Masonry in New South Wales ; elections will take place for the various Boards and Committees usually filled at this gathering , and other business

will be brought forward . Here also there appears to be a desire to depart from the usual quiet , dignified method of procedure customary in Freemasonry , in favour of a petty vexatious spirit , the point at issue ,

at the worst , perhaps , displaying a lack of discretion on the part of the principals concerned . But what will doubtless prove the crowning event of the series is left till the last , for on Thursday will be celebrated the Centenary Festival of the Roval Masonic Institution

for Girls—that event for which so much preparation has been made for months past , and to secure the success of which so many have striven , and are still striving .

It would be unwise on our part to attempt any lengthened consideration of the important matters here referred to under one general heading . We have briefly reviewed them in order that they may ! appear more prominently before our readers , and we shall now proceed to touch upon such as we deem

worthy of special notice at greater length , adhering as far as practicable to the order in which the events will occur .

The Recent Exclusion From The Boys' School.

THE RECENT EXCLUSION FROM THE BOYS' SCHOOL .

MORE AGITATION .

EOR some few months past considerable excitement has prevailed among a small section of the supporters of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , who have been at war with the House Committee of the Institution ,

in consequence of the dismissal of a former pupil from the School , shortly before Christmas last . We regret to say the controversy is not yet at an end . All thafc has been attempted to be done , or suggested , in the hope of arriving

at a settlement has so far proved unavailing , and we fear we are likely to see a continuance of the dispute for some time yet to come , while , worst of all , as the discussion

of the grievance has progressed , the most scandalous and unwarrantable accusations have been made by the objectors against all who are concerned in tho management of tho Charity .

As many members of the Craft aro aware , the points at issue have already been submitted for the opinion of the whole body of Subscribers to tho Institution ; indeed , a most unusual prominence has been accorded them , for

after having been disposed of at the General Committee , in March , a Special Genera ! Court was summoned to rcdiscuss them , the result being they were again rejected

notwithstanding the subject has been re-opened since on every possible occasion , and now it is to be revived , as forming fche basis for an attack on the existing

members of the House Committee , some of whom it is sought to exclude , when their re-election has to be considered at the General Committee to be held to-day . At first we deemed ifc best to take no active part in the

controversy , as we considered we had gentlemen—Brother Masons—to deal with , and we thought that whatever they might do they would confine themselves to legitimate discussion or argument . Such being the case we knew

they would be accorded a patient hearing afc any of fche gatherings of fche Governors and Subscribers of the Institution at which they mighfc desire to discuss their grievances ; beside this , ifc is hardly our mission to

interfere in every difference of opinion that may arise in our midst . We took little notice of the Special General Court which these objectors summoned , because we had

then discovered they had overstepped the bounds of decency in the conduct of their case , and the propositions they submitted were so manifestly unjust and so grossly libellous , as to preclude them from general publication .

Beside all this , we had sufficient confidence in the good sense and general love of fair play existing among the supporters of the Institution to feel that a case which was

so weak as to need unbecoming and ungentlemanly advocacy on the part of its supporters called for no exceptional reference at our hands . Now , however , it is time for us to speak , especially as

our pen is ono of the few means available to refute the scandalous and disgraceful attacks levelled against the management of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . In order , then , to render our remarks as fair as possible ,
