Consecration.

The office of Consecration was then proceeded with in accordance with the usual ritual and practice . Solemn music suitable to the occasion , including several anthems , was introduced under the direction of Bro . E . W . Taylor , Mus . Doc , P . M . 726 P . P . G . Org ., who was assisted b y a choir consisting of Bros . E . W . Smith P . M . 347 , A . Smith P . M . 347 , Newns and Sydney Dean .

The Dedication and Consecration of the Lodge and the installation of Lord Dartmouth as Worshipful Master followed in order of the proceedings , with the appointment and investiture of Officers as given above .

Lord Dartmouth , addressing the Officers , said they were starting the Lodge under unique circumstances , and they had made a most auspicious beginning . They wished to honour the memory of one of the most able , conscientious , and experienced Masons who had ever occupied the position

of Provincial Grand Master of Staffordshire . They had as Officers of the Lodge men whose position in the Province had been fully recognised by the fact that they had been elected to occupy that position . Taking all things into

consideration , they ought to set before themselves an ideal that this Lodge should be a standard of purity and accuracy in the Province , and they in their respective positions , or collectively , should do their utmost to set . an example which all other Masons in the Province would strive to emulate and

would delight to follow . In investing Bro . J . T . Marson as Secretary , Lord Dartmouth mentioned that Bro . Marson had been to a great extent responsible for the arrangements made for their meeting that day , and expressed the great satisfaction which was felt with the excellence of the arrangements .

Lord Dartmouth also expressed the deep sense of gratitude which was felt by the newly consecrated Lodge for the presence of the Grand Secretary and the other Officers of Grand Lodge , and for the beautiful ceremony which they had conducted .

The Grand Secretary having acknowledged the compliment , the Secretary announced letters of apology from Earl Ferrers P . G . M . Leicestershire and Rutland , from the Duke of Devonshire P . G . M . Derbyshire , Lord Leigh P . G . M . Warwickshire , Lord Egerton P . G . M . Cheshire , Sir Offley Wakeman , Bart ., P . G . M . Shropshire , A . F . Godson , M . P ., P . G . M . Worcestershire , and many others .

* On the motion of Lord Dartmouth , seconded by Col . Bindley , the Officers of Grand Lodge present were elected Honorary Members of the Foster Gough Lodge . Bro . T . Taylor proposed that the W . M ., the I . P . M .,

the Senior and Junior Wardens , Bros . Walker and Kent , and Bro . Marson Secretary be a Committee to draft bye-laws for submission to the Lodge , and to make arrangements for the next meeting . Bro . Newman seconded the resolution , which was carried unanimously .

On the motion of Lord Dartmouth , a vote of thanks was passed to the Mayor and Town Council of Stafford for the use of the Borough Hall , and to the County Council for the use of the Shire Hall .

Following the proceedings in Lodge , a banquet was held in the Shire Hall , at which about 150 Brethren were present . Lord Dartmouth presided , supported by the Grand Officers and the newly-appointed Officers of the Foster Gough Lodge . An excellent dinner was provided from the Swan Hotel , and the proceedings were enlivened by instrumental music by a

quartet of musicians , under Bro . Bonner P . P . G . Organist , of Longton . In the absence of Bro . Greatbatch , from indisposition , Bro . G . Wormal , Staffordshire Knot , acted as D . C . and toastmaster . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , and the whole proceedings of the day were most successf n 1 .

The Earl of Dartmouth is most kindly presenting a handsome banner worked in silk . The groundwork will be of Garter blue . At the top of the banner will be a Staffordshire Knot , then will follow in tasteful lettering the name and number of the Lodge , the county arms worked in

colours , and a Past Master ' s jewel worked in gold . The banner has been entrusted to the Misses Winterbottom , of Stone , whose art needlework is well known . Col . Bindley is presenting silver chains for the chairs , appropriately designed , with a Founder ' s jewel in the centre , and suitable inscription . The chains , collars , and Lodge jewels were

supplied by Messrs . Spencer and Co ., of London , and are in every way satisfactory . A Committee was appointed to select the Founders' jewel , and they decided from designs submitted without knowing who were the competitors . The choice fell to Messrs . Pepper , Payton and Co ., of Birmingham . — " Staffordshire Advertiser . "
