SOMERSET .
A SPECIAL Provincial Grand Lodge of Somersetshire was held on the 22 nd ult ., at the newly erected Masonic Hall at Yeovil , under the banner of
Brotherly Love Lodge , No . 329 , when the building waa formally dedicated to the purposes of Freemasonry by the Right Hon . Viscount Dungarvan Provincial Grand Master . The want of better accommodation for the
Masonic body , and the desirability of having a Masonic Hall have long been felt , and an agreement having been entered into for the purchase for £ 220 of a piece of land belonging to Mr . E . "Vining , a company was formed with a capital of £ 2 , 000 , in 400 shares of £ 5 each , and nearly
£ 900 of share capital having been subscribed , principally by local Brethren , a Hall was built in accordance with plans prepared by Bro . Johnson , and when it was opened all the Brethren seemed very pleased with its appearance . The Hall is forty feet long and twenty-two feet in width ,
and underneath is another room of similar dimensions , intended as a dining-room , and to be let for other purposes . There was a very large attendance of Brethren ( about
150 in number ) , only four Lodges throughout the Province being unrepresented . The Lodge was opened by the D . P . G . M . Bro . R . C .
Else , and immediately afterwards Viscount Dungarvan entered , and was saluted in the usual form . His Lordship said it was unusual to summon a special meeting of Prov . Grand Lodge , but this was an occasion of special importance . He congratulated the Brethren
of the local Lodge on the zeal they had shown , and the large attendance of Brethren assembled to witness the ceremony . The Prov . Grand Chaplain ( Bro . C . G . Anderson ) * next offered prayer , and delivered an oration on Masonry
which was well received . An anthem , " Behold how good and joyful a thing it is , Brethren , to dwell together in unity , " was next sung ; after which the Prov . Grand Secretary Bro . J . C . Hunt briefly explained why the Brethren of the local Lodge had built the Hall , and the
use they intended to make of it . The architect ( Brother Johnson ) then presented the plans of the completed structure to the Prov . Grand Master , who complimented the Brethren of 329 on the handsome building that had been erected . The interesting ceremony of dedication was then
proceeded with , the Hall being dedicated respectively to Masonry , Virtue , and Universal Benevolence . The Prov . Grand Chaplain again offered prayer , and another anthem was rendered , " I have surely built Thee a house to dwell in . " The alms collected , amounting to £ 5 , were given to the Corporation Almshouse Fund at Vorwil .
On the motion of Bro . Whitby W . M . of Lodge 329 , a vote of thanks was accorded to the Provincial Grancl Master and Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge for their attendance . A banquet , which was largely attended , was afterwards held at the Three Choughs Hotel . — " Bristol Times and Mirror . "
