practice of the mystic arts of Masonry . The Craft , like the Church , was neither vanquished nor overthrown by these manifestoes . In spite of bulls and letters encyclical , the English Church still flourished , and its spiritual power and influence formed the main factor in civilising and Christianising heathen nations . The Church was built upon the true rock , and not the

piece of a rock— " The Church ' s one foundation is Jesus Christ , her Lord " ; Christ , and not Peter , was her head . With regard to Free and Accepted Masons , they based their teaching and practice , their rites and ceremonies , upon the same impregnable Rock of God's written Word . The Church truly asserted that Holy Scripture contains all things necessary to salvation , and

bearing this in mind all Masons were first called upon to contemplate the volume of the Sacred Law . The preacher then feelingly recalled the day when he was ordained in Norwich Cathedral , and drew a vivid picture of its appearance then and now , and paid a high , tribute to the energy displayed by the late and present Dean in the way of restoration . Great work had

been done , and a great work remained to be carried out . To aid in its hastening and perfecting he begged all present to pour in their gifts . At the conclusion of the sermon and during the singing of the hymn , " O Lord , how joyful ' tis to see , the Brethren join in love to Thee , " a collection was made in aid of the Cathedral Reparation Fund .

In the evening a banquet was held at the Masonic Rooms , St , Giles's Street . Bro . Hamon le Strange presided , and was supported by Bros . Sir Francis G . M . "Boileau , Sir Kenneth Kemp , and a large number of notabilities of the Craft from the city and county . The different toasts were given and enthusiastically drunk .

Under the direction of Bro . Broekbank some very enjoyable music was provided by Brethren from the Cathedral and others . — " Eastern Daily Press . "
