William Sherwood and John Thomas Dodd were ballotted for and duly elected . Mr . Edmund Chamberlain jun ., elected at the regular Lodge , was initiated into the mysteries and privileges of aucient Freemasonry . Messrs . Sherwood and Dodd

were also initiated . The Secretary read tho minutes of tho meeting of tho Permanent Committees of tho Reading Lodges , held on tho 10 th inst ., in which it wns unanimously recommended— " That the sum of twelve pounds be paid by each Lodgo towards the expenses of tho Special Provincial Grand Lodge held in November last . " It was moved by Bro . Stevens S . W ., and seconded by Bro . Ferguson S . D . —

" That the recommendations of the Permanent Committees be complied with . " Carried . The Secretary read a letter be had received from the Prov . G . Secretary , stating that the R . W . P . G . M . had appointed tho Rev . J . Studholme Brownrigg as V . W . D . P . G . M . for Berks and Bucks , in the place of the Ven . the Dean of York , who had resigned . After the nsual ceremonies the Lodge was closed .

Gladwell having offered himself as a

candidate for the third degree , was examined and entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the third degree , and tho ceremony of raising completed . The three sections of the lecture were worked by Brother Fox . The Lodge was then closed in the third and second degrees , and Bro . Brocklehurst having been appointed W . M . for that night fortnight , the Lodge was closed .

minutes of tbe former regular and emergency meetings were read and confirmed . The auditor ' s statement showed a good sum in hand in favour of the Lodge . A board of Installed Masters was opened , and the W . M . vacated the chair in favour of Bro . W . Smeed , who kindly undertook the duty of installing Bro . Dan . Argyll S . W . and W . M . elect , which ceremony he rendered on this occasion as on many former

ones , to the satisfaction of the brethren and visitors . On the readmission of the brethren , the customary salutations were given , and the W . M . appointed and invested his Officers : —Bros . G . W . M ., in eloquent terms , in the namo of tho Lodge , presented Bro . G . M . Cooke I . P . M . with a very excellent gold P . M . jewel with suirable inscription ; also a Life Subscribership to the Masonic Charities ; and likewise his portrait , artistically painted , for the valuable services rendered by him during his year of office . Bro . Cooke appropriately replied , and thanked the brethren for their valuable presents ; he hoped to be among them for many years as a Past Master of the

Lodge . Lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of a banquet , where the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given , that of Col . Burdett P . G . M . Middlesex and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers Past and Present especially receiving acknowledgment . Bro . G . M . Cooke in an able manner proposed the health of the W . M . The toast of the Visitors was responded to by Bro . Wort and Titcombe were raised , tbe ceremony being admirably performed by the W . M ., who gave the charge and lecture in full . Tho vocal and instrumental music , under the conduct of Bro . Hickie , considerably

heightened the effect . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when the report of the Joint Committee of the two Lodges was read , and it was unanimously agreed that the extra expense of the Special Provincial Grand Lodge in November last should be borne by the two Lodges equally . All bnsiness being ended , the Lodgo was closed .

Musto I . P . M ., Friedeburg W . S . 1349 I . G . ; also Bros . McDonald , Rawe , White , Cope , Brown , Sadler , Ives , Seymour-Clark , Davis , Watkins , Butler , Andrews , Prosser , Pavitt , & o . The Lodge opened in due form , and the minutes were read . Lodge opened in the second and third degrees , and resumed to the first , when the following sections were worked by the brethren : —Firsfc , Seymour-Clark ;

second , McDonald ; third , Musto ; fourth , Andrews ; fifth , Cnndick ; sixth , Friedeburg ; seventh , McDonald ; eighth , Andrews ; ninth , Musto ; eleventh , Smith . Lodge was resumed to first degree , when Bro . P . M . Cundick was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A vote of thanks was ordered to be recorded on the minutes to Bro . P . M . Myers for the very excellent manner in which he had worked the sections . The brethren who had assisted were

complimented , the answers requiring no dictation . Such a specimen of working is seldom to be witnessed as that displayed by those who took part on this occasion . The Officers wero clothed in new aprons , collars and jewels , and this added greatly to the effect . Bro . Friedeburg W . S . 1349 was elected a member . On Tuesday next wo recommend a visit to this Lodge of Instruction , when that excellent worker Bro . P . M . Cundick will preside . We wish him a successful meeting .

Marquess of Ripon Lodge of Instruction , No . 1489 . —On Monday , 19 th April , at the Pembury Tavern , Ambnrst-road , Hackney . Bros . Droscher W . M ., J . Garrod S . W ., Martin J . W ., R . Olley S . D ., Blackburn I . G ., J . Lorkin Sec , C . Lorkin Preceptor , also Bro . Finch . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro .

Blackburn candidate . Bro . Droscher then vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Finch . The Lodge was opened in the third degree , and Bro . Droscher was raised . The Lodge was regularly closed . Bro . Garrod was elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A voto of thanks was recorded to Bro . Droscher for the able manner in which he had carried out the duties of the chair , it being his first time in the same .

M . g iving the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Singing aud pianoforte accompaniments rendering the evening very enjoyable .

The Lodgo was opened in the first degree , the minutes of the last regular Lodge were read and confirmed . The Lodge was opened in

the second degree . Bros . Wort and Titcombe gave proof of their efficiency in a very satisfactory manner , they were entrusted and retired . Tho Lodge was opened in the third degree , Bros . Wort and Titcombe were raised , tbe ceremony being admirably performed by the W . M ., who gave the charge and lecture in full . Tho vocal and instrumental music , under the conduct of Bro . Hickie , considerably

heightened the effect . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when the report of the Joint Committee of the two Lodges was read , and it was unanimously agreed that the extra expense of the Special Provincial Grand Lodge in November last should be borne by the two Lodges equally . All bnsiness being ended , the Lodgo was closed .

Friars Lodge of Instruction , No . 1349 . —At Bro . Pavitt ' a Liverpool Arms , Canning Town , on Tuesday , 27 th April . Bros . P . M . Myers W . M ., P . M . Cnndick S . W ., W . J . Smith S . W . 860 J . W ., P . M .

Musto I . P . M ., Friedeburg W . S . 1349 I . G . ; also Bros . McDonald , Rawe , White , Cope , Brown , Sadler , Ives , Seymour-Clark , Davis , Watkins , Butler , Andrews , Prosser , Pavitt , & o . The Lodge opened in due form , and the minutes were read . Lodge opened in the second and third degrees , and resumed to the first , when the following sections were worked by the brethren : —Firsfc , Seymour-Clark ;

second , McDonald ; third , Musto ; fourth , Andrews ; fifth , Cnndick ; sixth , Friedeburg ; seventh , McDonald ; eighth , Andrews ; ninth , Musto ; eleventh , Smith . Lodge was resumed to first degree , when Bro . P . M . Cundick was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A vote of thanks was ordered to be recorded on the minutes to Bro . P . M . Myers for the very excellent manner in which he had worked the sections . The brethren who had assisted were

complimented , the answers requiring no dictation . Such a specimen of working is seldom to be witnessed as that displayed by those who took part on this occasion . The Officers wero clothed in new aprons , collars and jewels , and this added greatly to the effect . Bro . Friedeburg W . S . 1349 was elected a member . On Tuesday next wo recommend a visit to this Lodge of Instruction , when that excellent worker Bro . P . M . Cundick will preside . We wish him a successful meeting .

Marquess of Ripon Lodge of Instruction , No . 1489 . —On Monday , 19 th April , at the Pembury Tavern , Ambnrst-road , Hackney . Bros . Droscher W . M ., J . Garrod S . W ., Martin J . W ., R . Olley S . D ., Blackburn I . G ., J . Lorkin Sec , C . Lorkin Preceptor , also Bro . Finch . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro .

Blackburn candidate . Bro . Droscher then vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Finch . The Lodge was opened in the third degree , and Bro . Droscher was raised . The Lodge was regularly closed . Bro . Garrod was elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A voto of thanks was recorded to Bro . Droscher for the able manner in which he had carried out the duties of the chair , it being his first time in the same .

Lodge closed in perfect harmony , and adjourned until September . The brethren , about 45 in number , sat down to a cap ital dinner , served by Bro . Nichols , in the Cafe Royale , the W . M . g iving the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Singing aud pianoforte accompaniments rendering the evening very enjoyable .
