' s jewel , as a mark of the regard of the brethren , and trusted he might livo long to wear it . The to st was then warmly roceived , wPh Masonio honours . Bro . Ellis expressed his gratitude for the kindness shown him by Officers as well as by brethren during

his term of office ; he felt greatly indebted for tho mark of esteem shewn in the presentation jnst made . Ho had endeavoured conscientiously to perform his duty to all . The next toast , was that of the Installing Master ( Bro . Willings ) who tho W . M . complimented very jnstly and very highly . The toast was warmly received , During the interval , Bro . Hobart sang " The British Lion , " and Bro .

Willings replied , in a very unassuming niar . nor , thanking the brothren for their expressions of appreciation and regard . Tho health of the Officers was next given . Tho W . M . felt he had a staff of brethren with whose aid he would be able to administer the affairs of tho Lodgo satisfactorily . The toast was very heartily drnnk , and Bros . S . W . and J . W . responded . Tho health of the Musical Brethren was cheerfully

reoeived , and responded to by Bros . Skeaf P . G . Organist and Busfield , after which Bro . Skillicorn favoured the Brethren with "Tom Bowling , " and Bro . Busfield gave "My Pretty Jane . " The W . M . proposed the health of tho Visitors , with whoso presence ho was very gratified . He trusted , during his year of office , to see as many as could favour him with a visit . The toast was heartily

received , and was responded to by Bros . Gee and Jackson . Bro . Skeaf obliged with "Auld Lang Syne , " wdn ' ch ushered in the time for tho Tyler ' s toast , when , by command of tho W . M ., the brethren were called from refreshment to labour . It was proposed by Bro . Ellis , and duly seconded , that the report and balance sheet , as tendered by the Treasurer , be taken as read , —Carried . Tho Lodge was then closed and the brethren separated .

High Cross Lodge . No . 754 . —The first regular meeting of the New Year took place ou Wednesday 22 nd ult ., at the Seven Sisters' Hotel , Tottenham . Present : — Bros . II . Stephens W . M ., all tho Officers , and a a good muster of the P . M . ' s and Brethren ; also soveral Visitors , amongst whom wero Bros . Killiek P . M . No . 1693 , G . H . Patmore 228 , Moseley 228 , Arc . The second degree was conferred

on Bro . Thcakstone , and the W . M . then proceeded to raise Bro . Dolman to the third degree rendering that ceremony in a most impressive manner . The other business being disposed of , tbe Lodge was closed and the brethern adjourned to the spacious banquotting room , newly built by the host Bro . Oddy , who in addition has recently enlarged tho Lodge room , making it replete with every comfort and

convenience for Masonic meetings . After partaking of an excellent dinner and removal of the cloth the usual Loyal aud Masonic toasts wero given , Bro . W . Dance P . M . proposed the health of the W . M ., remarking that ho had just completed half of his year of office , and during that time had acquitted himself in such a manner , both in and ont of the Lodge , as to gain tho universal esteem of the brethren . The W . M . thanked Brother Dance and the brethren for the kind feeling

they had at all times evinced towards him . With the assistance ot his Officers , who had so well supported him , tho time had passed pleasantly and harmoniously , and he should regret when his year of office expired . The health of the visitors was responded to by Bro . Killiek P . M ., who said he had visited many Lodges , and could safely say he had never seen a higher class of working than he had witnessed that evening , both by the W . M . and his Officers . the chair and rehearsed the Installation ceremony , Bro . Richards the W . M . elect of the Egyptian Lodge , No . 27 , being candidate . Bro . Richards was elected a member , and Bro . Hill appointed W . M . for Friday 7 th Feb . Votes of thanks were passed , lo be recorded on the minntes to Bros . Adair and Maidwell , for tho manner in which they rehearsed their respective ceremonies .

D ., Gunner Hon . Sec . I . G ., ] tre P . M . Preceptor , Erwin , Tucker Treas ., Franckel , Pearson , & c . Lodge was opened , and the minutes of Inst meeting were rend , confirmed , and signed . The ceremonv of

initiation was then ably rehearsed , with Bro . Lrwm as candidate . The brethren were called to refreshment . When labour was resumed , Lodge was advanced to tho second degree , when Hro . Franckel volunteered as a candidate to be raised , and having shown his proficiency retired , while Lodge was advanced . Upon his re-admission , the ritual was rehearped , and Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when Bro . Goss was re-elected W . M . for the ensuing meeting .

Whittington Lodge of Instruction , No . 862 . —Held its wcokly meeting on Wednesday , 29 th January , at Bro . Hyde ' s , Red Lion , Poppins-court , Fleet-street . Bro . Evans of tho mother Lodge as W . M ., Hallam S . W ., Brown J . W ., Tate S . D ., Aboil J . D ., Pate I . G ., Long Preceptor , and others . After tho confirmation of the minutes of previous meeting , tho ceremony of initiation was performed by

the W . M ., Bro . Hallam jun . being the candidate . The first section of tho lecture was worked by Bro . Hallam , second by Bro . Brown , third and fourth by Bro . Tate , and fifth by Bro . Hallam jnn . Two new members were elected , and Bro . Hallam W . M . for the ensuing week . A vote of thanks having been unanimously accorded to the W . M . for his able performance of the duties of the chair for the first time , the Lodgo was closed .

Doric Lodge of Instruction , 933 . —At the meeting of this Lodge , on Friday , the 17 th ult ., at the Duke ' s Head , Whitechapel - road , Bro . I . P . Cohen P . M . occupied tho chair , assisted by the following Officers : —Bros . B . Cnndick P . M . preceptor , Green S . W ., Mansfield P . M . J . W ., Whaley S . D ., Moss J . D ., McDonald I . G ., W . Mnsto P . M . Hon . Secretary . Among others present were Bros .

Ellis , Wooldridge , Richards , Hopkins , West , T . J . Barnes P . M ., Tyars , C . Veal , Wells , and Stephens . Preliminaries were dnly observed , and Bros . Wooldridge was raised ; tho coremony being very ably rendered by Bro . Cohen . Bro . T . J . Barnes worked the first ; section of the lecture . Lodge wa 3 then closed down , and the same brother worked the 1 st and 2 nd sections of tho second lecture , with the

assistance of tho brethren . On the motion of Bro . Cnndick , seconded by Bro . Ellis , a sum of five guineas was placed on Bro . Barnes' list as Steward for the Festival of the R . M . B . Institution . Bro . Barnos thanked the brethren for thoir generous support ; it was no personal advantage ho sought , but support for a most deserving institution .

He nrged all who were so disposed to assist , pointed out tho great need of support coming in just now , as upon striking the unnnal balanco of the accounts very little cash remained in hand . It is gratifying to know that several answers wero made to this appeal . Bros . Tyars and Whaley wero elected members .

After preliminaries , the

ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Williams candidate . Bro . 0 . Dietrich worked the first section of tho Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Lodge was resumed to the first degree . Bro .
